If I'm the ump I'm calling him out for throwing the bat like a goober.

582

u/Remarkable_Towel_512 14h ago

No joke, but the Federation rules we played under, throwing your bat OR helmet like that is a dead ball out. This batter did both

254

u/Uidbiw 13h ago

Should be an ejection.

147

u/kywildcat44 13h ago

Then you get this kids dad coming in like this. No way a parent of a kid that acts like that would accept an ejection without at least cursing you out or trying to fight

111

u/flyonthesewalls 10h ago

I was a coach in this age group. My best hitter. Started developing an ego and did something very similar to this. Slowly walked to first as he admired his hit and tossed his helmet. I took him out the game and sat him for the next one. His teammates weren’t happy, but I expected better from my boys. I didn’t have to deal with an asshole parent, because he was my own.

19

u/Wise_Contact_1037 9h ago

Good for you. I'd imagine he turned out better for it

15

u/flyonthesewalls 5h ago

Thanks. It took some work, but he did.

I know he’s not everyone’s favorite, but I used Jeter as an example of someone who practiced humility on the field. He showed respect to opposing players, never let the praise and adoration get to his head and put in the work.

When the Red Sox (and their fans) give a Yankee a farewell bow, that says something about the player. Enough that your rivals showed you that it was a pleasure playing against you (and perhaps to see you go away 😂).

5

u/Top-Waltz5244 1h ago

As a Red Sox fan I can definitely say Jeter is the only Yankee I’ve ever respected

Good job Dad.

9

u/Capt_Dummy 8h ago

Just this week i was coaching my 6yo’s team - coach pitch. I was over helping the 1st & 2nd baseman, and my son was over playing 3rd. A kid at bat just couldn’t straighten out his swing and make contact, and i heard my son yell out “what is this a turd?!” I walked over to him, pulled him over into foul territory and calmly said stuff like: we don’t do that. Every kid here is learning. We encourage and stay positive to every one out here. Etc. As i was waking back to first across the diamond, the kid finally connected with one and ran it out. I was still strolling over when i felt my son run past and go “high 5” the kid. Happy he did that, but still a little put off at the fact that he yelled that out. It means i still have some work to do. lol

7

u/ALWanders 8h ago

It also means you connected, keep working, and being a good dad. Thumbs up

Props !!!!!!! I have never forgotten when I was bragging to my dad about how good I was at baseball and he stopped me in the middle of it and said if you are really good at something you don’t have to tell anyone because they already know. It was a simple conversation but it has stuck with me for life! I’m sure your child will always remember the lesson you taught them!

if I'm the dad I'm pulling him off the field before he reaches first base

You can celebrate but that's absolutely insane.

17

u/One_Isopod_7319 13h ago

"If I'm the dad"? Where do you think this kid learned to be such an a$$wipe? A rouge league team for sure, no association would sanction a team like this.

4

u/KDK12toKDKone 13h ago

Yep. The only way a kid gets to behaving like this, is if it accepted and/or encouraged by a parent.

6

u/Eagle4317 10h ago

A bat flip is one thing, but tossing your helmet before you even get to 1st Base is automatic ejection territory. He also threw the bat into the field of play, not off to the side.

I wish an ejection before you reach 1st Base would disallow the home run.

4

u/EliteMoisture 13h ago

3

u/Zombie-Lenin 10h ago

I'm watching him round the bases and do all of that unsportsmanlike crap, then when he steps on home I'm calling him out, ejecting him, and sending any runners back to their base. Then I'm talking to the coach and possibly throwing him out--depending on what he says--for not coming out on the field and trying to put a stop to his players behavior.

Multiple players because I'm counting that chest bump BS too.

This is the Dominican Republic. Baseball there is music, emotion and pure fun. Not the buttoned-up, overly serious version some people expect in the U.S. You’re just judging a different baseball culture by your own standards. The kid hit a home run and celebrated. It ain’t that serious.

Does no one know anything about baseball in this thread? This is the Dominican, and they are known for their over the top HR celebrations. At the WBC this year they leaned all the way into it and it was a blast.

I love baseball, but I'm not one of these "purists". I enjoy the bat flips and the celebrating. Let them have fun and hopefully more kids will play this awesome game

Kid should be grounded

u/_OnlyPans 14h ago

Lmao he’s even a dick to his own teammates 😂

Should’ve been tossed for throwing his bat and then let the village do their business with this kid.

Teaching these kids the wrong way.

Kid needed ran as soon as the bat was tossed.

Everything is so gd corny now.

2

u/thunderlips36 14h ago

Yeah, if I'm the coach, that kid isn't getting another at bat and apologizes to the other team. Throw a bat like that again and you won't see another at bat again on this team

u/Extreme-Clerk-7333 14h ago

Why is he throwing the bat in the general direction of 1st base?

2

u/BuccoBruce1967 14h ago

Fuck that kid and fuck all the adults/coaches that tolerate and encourage that behavior!

2

u/KD2Smoove 14h ago

He’s a portly fellow.

When you peak in life at 11

2

u/jtr489 14h ago

If that’s my kid I’m telling him to sit his ass on the bench

2

u/diggertim68 14h ago

Tubby has peaked in life- it’s going to be a long steady decline to life in the trailer park with his cousin wife

2

u/HunterLivesMatter76 14h ago

Throwing the bat and his helmet aren't against some kind of rules?

2

u/FloydianSlip212 14h ago

That kid’s dad punches holes in the walls then patches them himself

2

u/legal_stylist 14h ago

I’d pull him from the game if I’m the coach.

Enjoy it while you can little man, before you’re stuck behind a desk at Enterprise for the rest of your life.
