If I was the ump I say you can keep the run but the kid is outta here

Yep. I was thinking the same thing. Kid ejected immediately.

They don’t get paid enough to have to have to deal with what I could only imagine the kids parents are like.

Leagues should also make it an automatic suspension for players whose parents interfere with the game.

My daughter’s softball league was sorta like that. The umps must’ve received instructions beforehand or something - they would toss a parent without thinking twice. The parents choices were to comply with the ejection (usually within 2 minutes), or the team forfeited.

Occasionally - like once or twice a year - some mom (it was usually a mom) would get too into it and get tossed, then she’d act incredulous, then the other moms would mom-shame her, and while that was happening the kids would line up to say ‘good game’. Usually about 3 innings in.

At the games afterwards, the other parents held each other pretty accountable.

I remember one time the ump called the coaches out and told them to get the parents under control (there was a heckling, but it was routine) or there would be consequences. This one dad yelled in “c’mon blue - that was a strike!” and another dad got right into his face about it. Neither one backed down, they got into a full on fistfight about whether or not to shut the fuck up. The ump ended the game anyway, but not until the police showed up to detain both dads.

I’ve never seen a kid look as embarrassed as those 9-year old girls did when their dads were being arrested. I also remember the entire team rallying around them (hugs and stuff), so at least that part was good.

I'm in the Netherlands and probably been close to 30 of my daughter's softball games.

I've never seen an unruly parent. One got mildly told by her kid's coach to cool it when cheering a bit too enthusiastically.

Imagine being afraid of parents. What're they going to do, beat you? If that's the case carry bear spray.

There’s been grandparents who find umps in parking lots in select ball in my city.

Umps won’t even eject kids for full on tackling players because they don’t want to deal with coaches or parents.

Fucking wild and sad.

That sucks though, no need to ruin it for the kids who should be there.

Let the little homie celebrate, y'all are too serious

Pretty sure throwing a baseball bat past first base onto the infield would result in the player being out at any level of baseball.

u/Substantial-Tart-464 15h ago

yeah this video should be a PSA for training umps and coaches what NOT to have the kids do when playing. Unless your Kenny Powers is the only exception!

u/blissfully_happy 14h ago

When I learned how to play baseball/softball in the 5th grade, if the bat was more than 3 lengths from home plate, it was considered an out.

For years I gently sat the bat down on home plate before running. It was such a hard habit to break, lol.

1

u/hyperactiveChipmunk 11h ago

When I played, removing your helmet before touching home plate was also an out. I remember being a precocious little rulebook-reading snot and getting my team a crucial out (and saving a run) late in a playoff game due to that rule. I got an extra scoop at the ice cream parlor after the game that night.

5

u/Spaded85 14h ago

Nah, they aren't keeping the run. They don't deserve it allowing kids to throw bats into the middle of the field. Taking the helmet off before rounding bases is a no no too. Should have been called out the instant he tossed the bat.

2

u/AAPrice3232 16h ago

My exact thought.

1

u/RDUDaddy1 15h ago

False. He was ejected before he touched the plate, that's an out, no run scores.

I'll retort.

  1. I will agree all the players wear the same jersey and there is no ump seen so its a practice without beating around the bush so acting out is more acceptable.
  2. Then how do you defend throwing the bat like he did with his own players, coaches, and parents around him?

1

u/billy-suttree 15h ago

That’s what I was thinking. This is just an intense sorta practice. We never wore our jerseys to practice. Maybe this is a rich kid time with multiple jerseys.

1

u/4Ever2Thee 15h ago

I’m shocked that didn’t happen immediately. You don’t want some 10 year old kid taking an aluminum bat to the dome.

1

u/Tremplstiltskin 14h ago edited 14h ago

This looks like practice, everyone on the field is on his team.

Edit: I thought they were doing a home and away jersey skirmish but Im not so sure on watching it again. There doesn't seem to be any umps or spectators on camera so idk

1

u/soberunderpar 14h ago

One of the infielders high fives him so I think you are right.

1

u/HailGrapeLegion 14h ago

That’s fair

1

u/forrealthoughcomix_ 14h ago

Hellll no on keeping the run. Your teammates are gonna learn to hate your bullshit too, kid.

1

u/Fickle-Art-7125 14h ago

Wait for him at home and toss him for his antics.

1

u/opaqueambiguity 13h ago

Nah, you ain't keeping the point. Called out and ejected.

1

u/arentol 12h ago edited 11h ago

Nope, that bat was thrown into the field of play. That is an automatic out in basically every league, the ball is dead, no runners can advance.

The kid should also be ejected, but that is only on top of the automatic out.

1

u/DJinKC 11h ago

Dead ball out. Player is ejected.
The shame from his teammates for costing them the game is part of the punishment.

1

u/_PeteRoss_ 8h ago

Well you can't stop him so you would think that. People always want the best player on the other team out of the game. The kid is annoying but he is a winner. You sound like a loser. You all do.

Ahaha holy fuck I cannot believe the amount of babies in this thread. I played baseball for 16 years, and never got to hit a home run. I'd be hyped. (I was a pitcher btw)

u/RDUDaddy1 15h ago

Little league pitchers hit more homers than anyone, you're just not an athlete.

2

u/stairway2evan 15h ago

Seriously. At that age the best pitcher and the best hitter are one guy and it’s usually the guy who got hit by puberty like a freight train.

And it’s true up through high school ball in most cases. Every school has one or two freak athletes. It’s just that the older and more skilled you get, the more the entire talent pool becomes freak athletes, and you don’t stick out quite as far.

3

u/Substantial-Tart-464 15h ago

hating or not is fine but there is a fine line to celebrating and if you can't tell he crossed it then that's on you.

-1

u/RepulsiveWay1698 15h ago

I'll put it this way, I agree he celebrated too hard and was cocky and arrogant and honesty would looks like an idiot. Best way to respond is beating his team and striking him out next at bat, make him feel stupid.

Any time a player does this kind of shit the only way to respond with real meaning is performance. I promise you beaning him won't teach him a damn thing and he will be tempted to be EVEN more volatile in the future . The

2

u/NarcolepticMoogle 15h ago

Bat flips to a point are fine but putting on a full Broadway production by the time you've hit 3rd base is too much. The kids heading down a one way road to becoming a malignant narcissist and society is already oversaturated enough with them at this point.

2

u/Beadpool 15h ago

I’m sure this is rage-bait, but ya don’t whip your bat like that, especially directly towards other players.

Hell, I got a warning because I was, apparently, flicking my bat(?), instead of dropping it after hitting the ball into play. Didn’t even notice I was doing it—if I even was. This kid just hammer threw his bat in a direct path to the first baseman. Not to mention, the helmet slam. Umps would want to toss kids for doing that in their own dugouts around here.

1

u/LatterMatch9334 14h ago

Crazy u spent 16 years of ur life playing and never hit a homer lol. I played for 6 and hit multiple a year. I still knew when to hang it up.
