For Our Beloved Oliver
There are some souls who find us exactly when we need them, and seven years ago, one tiny, frightened tuxedo kitten changed our lives forever.
At only five weeks old, Oliver appeared all alone on my daughter’s doorstep—hungry, terrified, and looking for someone to love him. Little did we know that the tiny kitten we scooped into our arms would one day become the king of our castle.
Oliver grew into the most beautiful, handsome, gentle, loving, and kind soul. He wasn’t just our cat; he was our family. He adored his dog and cat siblings, filling our home with laughter, comfort, and companionship. He ruled the house with quiet confidence, always reminding us that he was in charge, yet his heart was as soft as could be.
He loved his human family with every ounce of his being. Whether he was greeting us at the door, curling up beside us after a long day, or simply watching over us with those wise, loving eyes, Oliver had a way of making every ordinary day feel special. He gave us unconditional love without ever asking for anything in return.
Yesterday, our hearts were shattered.
Our sweet Oliver was diagnosed with what is most likely intestinal cancer. The disease is stealing him from us far too quickly, and the prognosis is devastating. There are no words to describe the helplessness of watching someone you love so deeply slip away while wishing with everything you have that you could somehow stop time.
If love alone could heal him, Oliver would live forever.
This Thursday afternoon, we will give our precious boy the greatest final gift we can—a peaceful passing at home, surrounded by the family who loves him beyond measure. He will leave this world wrapped in our arms, hearing our voices, feeling our kisses, and knowing that he has always been, and will always be, cherished.
To the world, Oliver may have been just one tuxedo cat.
To us, he is irreplaceable.
He is the tiny kitten who found our doorstep and our hearts.
He is the brave little soul who became our protector, our comfort, our laughter, and our constant companion.
He is family.
Oliver, thank you for every head bump, every purr, every cuddle, every silly moment, and every ounce of unconditional love you gave us. Thank you for choosing us seven years ago.
We would give anything for one more healthy day with you. One more nap in the sunshine. One more greeting at the door. One more chance to tell you how deeply you are loved.
Our hearts are breaking, but they are forever better because you were in them.
Run free when it’s time, our sweet boy. Until we meet again, you will remain the King of our Castle and the keeper of a piece of each of our hearts.
