Advice Weird behavior from my cat recently. Anyone know what's going on

At first I thought she was gonna show me something inside the box, but there's nothing other than a nylon bag. She also runs to it when I get near it as well, and also keeps biting my hand and tries to drag me into it. What's going on? Never in my life have I seen my cat doing this.

A cat that really loves you won't wish to harm you. They are clingy and extremely affectionate.

117

u/Lumpy_Benefit666 5h ago

Yeah people (myself included) always talk about how their cat would kill them if they got the chance, but my cat has never hurt me or attempted to other than when im getting her belly which is my own fault.

My cat let me put my face on his belly, and he would starts to purr. Love the smell of his belly. Maybe you can try that too sometime.

120

u/HogSandwich 3h ago

Was this written by a cat

30

u/Nilgnohc 3h ago

Lol no, but this is the sign of ultimate cat affection.

68

u/fatherlengthygams 3h ago

From the moment I’ve acquired my cats as kittens, I’ve stuck my face right in the bellies and raised them with belly kisses. Now they’re huge tom cats and still roll on their backs for belly kisses. I still have a face.

21

u/ifyoulovesatan 2h ago

We had a cat that would purr like crazy if you gave her raspberries on her belly, hahah. She loved it. But yeah any of the cats I've had or have will at the very least tolerate belly kisses if not love then.

I did this with my boy. He loves raspberries on his belly 😂

Ha! Not always, Mon Ami. My last three cats (RIP Katie, Jack & Luna) let us rub their bellies. They’d flop on the floor and ask for belly rubs. I miss them so much!😔

My cat let me do this too!

I have one of each, LillyPig will let me pet her head and neck endlessly, but I am not allowed to elsewhere or she will bat my hand away. I would probably loose my hand altogether if I attempted to pet her belly. Miu Miu Von Monkeystein will let me pet her endlessly and often rolls over on her back when we are sitting on the sofa, encouraging me to use her as an armrest and pet her belly. Cats like people have different personalities, quite literally different strokes for different folks.

its so beautiful. I watch my cat pull her claws in when she touches me or when I hold her so she doesnt scratch me. She just feels safe with me and is so affectionate. they're the best

3

u/Laluna2024 2h ago

Not true. Their personalities are all unique. My tortoise cat loves me and will sleep on my lap for hours. She will also attack me for no reason. It's becoming a dangerous problem.

Yeah, the kitty has found big fun in that box, and wants you to join,- can't quite figure out that you won't fit it. They are not geniuses- but soooo lovable!!

41

u/Winjin 2h ago

I've read that

1) Bears have insane smell that has dedicated receptors to sensing stuff like noradrenaline in the air, so they can literally smell fear

2) Cats have very bad sense of "scale". They have trouble understanding when something is "big" or "small" they only understand "danger" and "no danger"

(that's why a 3-kilo cat is comfortable around 700-kilo horses and is so chill that horses, nervous and skittish animals on average, are so chill with cats)

3) And that is why you see videos of cats attacking bears and bears retreating, because they see this little furry ball of fury squaring up to attack them, and their senses are like "Oh. Oh wait. This small thing. It is Not Afraid of me. AT ALL. This fight could end with injuries. Better retreat"

Not sure how true is the pp 1 and 3, the bears could just prefer retreat to confrontation and those cats could be scared out of their minds, but I love this image, and it would also explain to me why she's like "What do you mean you can't FIT in the box. Is simple. You squeeze and you in box. Humans, I swear..."

My boy cat woke me up at 3am so frantic that I thought he was going to lead me to a house fire or one of his sisters in distress. I jumped out of bed and he instead led me to a place that 6 hours earlier had been a pile of bubble wrap, but I had taken it to the garbage. Sorry, buddy.

u/HeyPrettyLadyMaam 3h ago edited 2h ago

We got our puppy a kitten when he used to get stressed about us leaving for work. (Puppie is now 6 y/o and the kitten is 5) Best thing you can ever do for your pet is to get them a friend. Heck, the whole world could use a kitten. Maybe then no more fighting? Hard to fight with a kitten love overload 🤔

16

u/NovaCoon 2h ago

I got my cat a doggo, my cat died and my dog got depressed so I got him a kitty. He's 11 and the cat is 1. When he'll die I will get my cat another cat. That's a never ending circle x___x

"So, there's this box, right! It's super dope. C'mon check it out!" - 😺

34

u/No-Acanthisitta2331 5h ago

The cat didn't say that!

54

u/conrad_w 5h ago

Yeah. That's dog talk. Maybe cat in a mixed household.

994

u/CatGooseChook 5h ago

Only time I've seen them do that is when there are, or will be, kittens.

301

u/CryptidxChaos 5h ago

Same. Mine wanted me to stay with her while she birthed her kittens, even going so far as to stop her labor and follow me when I needed bathroom breaks while keeping vigil for her.

71

u/Forty6ixand2wo 1h ago

This happened to me too!!!

When it came time to push, she would stand up and I would put my hands on her shoulders and she’d lean in. We delivered all of her kittens that way! It was one of the most magical things I’ve ever seen.

45

True, but they don't have to be pregnant. Sometimes the motherly instincts just kick in. My spayed cat used to do this a lot. She liked to pretend that my hand is her kitten.

I’ve never seen a cat pulling a hooman! Maybe she wants you to play with her with the box.

843

u/Good_Perspective9290 5h ago

That’s exactly what she wants - she wants to hide in the box and try and catch things moving along the top. Just check out that look of disappointment after she gets her human to the box, waits, and nothing happens. Time to get out the cat wand and go cat fish in a box!

126

u/RobertCalifornia 5h ago

And the disappointment face is devastating! I need an update that OP finally complied with this kitty's demands.

227

u/mysterylover 5h ago

Definitely wants to play while hiding in that box.

133

u/Good_Perspective9290 4h ago

It’s the Ouroboros cat cycle - cat fishes for human to go fish for cat in its natural home, the cardboard box. And a cat instantly knows if you are being half-hearted about it. It’s full commitment or nothing.

47

u/akestral 5h ago

"Hey, did you see my Really Excellent Box? I gotta show you my Really Excellent Box. You wanna get in my Really Excellent Box with me? Here, see how Excellent my Box is? Let us play now in my Really Excllent Box. If you ever remove my Really Excellent Box, I will bite you forreals."

5

u/SwallowThrowaway2023 4h ago

This is exactly what the cat is communicating. My cat does the same.

8

u/Wonder_bread317 4h ago

dude needs to get a string, put it on a stick and play with the bored kitty.

26

u/ElephantNo4624 5h ago

follow me, men

33

u/meases 5h ago

I feel like she wants the box to be flat on the floor. Works better as a cave that way.

26

u/Buckykattlove 5h ago

I was wondering too if she wanted you to play with her.

10

u/coffeebeansugar 4h ago

My cat will do this to me when I shower lol I think he thinks I’m in danger and wants to save me

9

u/GeorgeDukesh 4h ago

If I play with my girl with a bit of string or a fluffy mouse on a wand, she grabs it in her mouth and tows me to where she wants me

13

u/Feinberg 4h ago

They do that when they're 'nesting'. It's an urge to move all the kittens to a safe place, and sometimes that includes people.

3

u/Lavenderender 3h ago

I once saw a cat 'rescue' their human by pulling them out of the bathtub and when they got back into the bath they screeched 😂 cats are the best

193

u/TisSlinger 5h ago

There’s gong to be kittens soon in that box!!!

153

u/No_Scene_5885 5h ago

I’ve raised several litters of kittens in my time, this is pregnant cat behaviour for sure.

209

u/Jeathiopia 5h ago

Bro get in the box

81

u/itmightbehere 5h ago

Precious baby. She loves you and wants you to get in the box with her. It must be a really cool box! You know it would make the best spaceship.

501

u/nea_fae 5h ago

Is she preggers? Thats preggers behavior.

But also maybe just calico, bitches be crazy.

98

u/Rubber_Duckie_25 5h ago

Yeah I was thinking, maybe shes looking for somewhere to nest basically?!?

51

u/juliagreenillo 5h ago

I was thinking the same thing. I've only seen pregnant cats do this

12

u/moonmaiden6630 5h ago

This is what I was wondering

→ More replies (31)

156

u/EDC_nut 5h ago

Never seen that before. Maybe she wants you to join her in her awesome box.

Joking aside, have you tried moving the box to a different localtion, to see if she still takes you to the box or just to that corner in the room? Maybe it's about the box, maybe there is something in that corner on the wall she wants you to check out.

Also, pet the damn cat. That look of dissapointment when she pops out of the box a 2nd time.

9

u/toodleroo 3h ago

I'd move the box and if she stays in that corner I'd start seriously searching for something like a gas leak.

7

u/OverwhelmedClown 2h ago

This! It’s cute to think she just wants a playmate in the box, but …. Animals are smarter than we credit them. I’d be doin some more investigating to make sure there wasn’t something in the walls…

4

u/angwilwileth 2h ago

I had a week-long argument with my female cat after I got a new bed. She loved hiding under there and would try to get me to join her.

39

u/FluffyAmyNL 5h ago

Join the box😍

44

u/zillskillnillfrill Domestic Housecat 5h ago

I thought she was trying to show you babies inside of the box and I was wondering why you didn't show the camera inside of the box that she's in, cats will often give birth in tight little spaces like that.

43

u/BeyondTheBees 5h ago

I think she wants you to pet her while she’s in her box 😂 You can’t blame her for wanting the best of both worlds!!!

8

u/No-Vermicelli-2832 5h ago

Box worlds, if you will

36

u/biriyanibabka 5h ago

Is she pregnant? Keep an eye on her op.

7

u/blondfox71 4h ago

That’s what I was thinking or that she thinks you are her kitten!

4

u/UntitledImage 4h ago

Was wondering that too

36

u/CowntChockula 5h ago

Yeah dude shes trying to show you how cool the box is

33

u/Frankie_Sriracha 5h ago

Go in the box you fucking human

30

u/Silverjeyjey44 5h ago

It's cute seeing cats being aware of the language barrier but finding ways to communicate the best they can

27

u/Maleficent_Junket_58 5h ago

Get in the box

19

u/OldLadyReacts 5h ago

She wants you to pet her in the box. My cat doesn't drag me to her cave in the closet, but she'll meow at me from the door so I follow her in the bedroom, get down on my hands and knees with my head in the closet and pet her while she settles in for her nap.

10

u/Buckykattlove 5h ago

TOne of our cats does this too, leads me to the closet and wants me to pet her while she goes to sleep. My brother's cat insists on being petted on the back porch deep freezer. But only after dark. Cats are so weird.

22

u/fuckmycatsareloud 5h ago

Is she spayed? For some reason my
First thought was pregnant kitty

23

u/sayjessy 5h ago

Preganant

18

u/GuessSmithereens 5h ago

I had one cat that used to come and try and drag me like that to under the bed when someone would visit the house. I just figured it was her “safe spot” and she wanted me to be there too. Maybe she just wants you to come and enjoy the box she’s enjoying.

14

u/Gold_Guava_5574 5h ago

Does the cat happen to have kittens?

15

u/alvl5abra 4h ago

This is how I imagine it.

14

u/canofspam8888 5h ago

this is the cutest friggin video! made me giggle cause obviously she wants you in the box with her for the fun! but alas, i don't think you would fit as well as she does. I have a children's play tunnel for my two large boys and have joined them a handful of times just because i can. if you despise the look of boxes in your home i would recommend! they also love to zoomie in and out of that thing

14

u/AnumNaseem 5h ago

I think she just wants your attention. So precious (人’∀’)

My cat did something similar too. She would take me (by lightly biting my hand and drag me) to the store room we have in our home, she would get on the shelf and meow continuously until I reach to her and pet her there lol 😂

She just made it her favorite spot I guess and wanted me to join her there and give her some love and attention ❤😌

13

u/Amichelle525 5h ago

This is adorable af. She wants you to come inside the box with her because she loves it in there and wants to show you how much fun it is.

12

u/IwasDeadinstead 5h ago

She wants to play with you

13

u/PenaltyReasonable169 5h ago

My cat does this when she's on top of the bookcase! She gets super hyped and tries to pull you up there with her lol I think kitty is just happy.

12

u/bravesdiva 5h ago

That look she gave you from the box tho. 😭

13

u/JoinedMoon 3h ago

Is she spayed? If yes, she's probably wanting you to join her in the box, or play with her in it. If no, you may soon find things in the box.

11

u/life_hacker_14 5h ago

i want and need a calico

10

u/Nickye19 5h ago

In rats we call it stashing, they do it when they think you're cool and want you to join them. I'd think cats could be the same

10

u/Psychological_Salt93 3h ago

Im assuming there aren't kittens in that box! My girl used to get me to look after her kittens that way when she wanted a break. She would make sure I was going to keep watch before she would leave them. As they got bigger she would take the kittens and put them in with the dog to babysit.

8

u/Cleokatrah 5h ago

A version of this, OP.

9

u/EinfachNurMarc 4h ago

Any chance she’s pregnant?

Otherwise I guess she wants you to play with her in her favorite box.

9

u/Historical-Reach-969 4h ago

My cat did this when she had kittens. She knew she was about to pop em out so she came and got me.

7

u/Affectionate-Owl6193 4h ago

Is she ready to have babies? I had a cat do this when she was in labor

8

u/69DETONATOR69 4h ago

Weird? Actually that was so cute it overloaded my cuteness meter. She wanted to show you affection and wanted you to join her in the box. What a sweet little kitty.

8

u/Limitless8609 1h ago

It is exactly how a momma cat takes you to see her babies or gives birth. She doesn’t look pregnant but that is how I have seen cats act like that. Maybe she really loves the bag or box and wants to show you?

7

u/b_zar 5h ago

What are you waiting for, go in the box with her!

8

u/OhTella 4h ago

The only other time iv seen a cat physically pull a human like that is when it wanted to show its kittens.

7

u/AdelineKraxx 3h ago

That is her box, she loves it. Don’t ever get rid of it. Also she wants you to play IN the box with her.

6

u/andrewsb91 5h ago

You mention a nylon bag in the bottom. Maybe she wants it removed? Soft blanket added? Hard to know.

7

u/scaredtinyone 5h ago

maybe she wants you to get in the box with her lol

6

u/Brooker2 5h ago

She's really proud of her box and wants to show you it. Nothing to fear

6

u/Zeroex1 5h ago

the cat try to say go inside the box they have free catnap!!

6

u/Misterdreavus437 4h ago

I am diagnosing her with a bad case of Silly Gooseitis. It's incurable

6

u/SporkoBug 4h ago

As someone who has had pregnant queen cats in the past, I do agree with a lot of people saying she's trying to show you the best nesting area; unless she's spayed and she is just wanting you to play in the box.

6

u/WildcatCinder1022 2h ago

The only time I’ve seen a cat do that was leading her human to her litter of kittens. But as long as you know she isn’t pregnant then I think she just wants you involved in things that make her happy.

5

u/BluebirdDense1485 2h ago

That looks like the behavior of a cat bringing her kitten back to it's den.

Congratulations you have been adopted.

6

u/Morticia6666 5h ago

Well grabbing your hand to take you over to her obviously fun box she’s enjoying so I’m thinking she’s thanking you or telling you I love this box 🗃️ please don’t get rid of this.

Or like what kids do when they jump into the pool, hey Mom watch me! Idk but it’s adorable 🥰

5

u/Dimethylglymaxime 5h ago

Get in the box, NOW!

5

u/GeorgeDukesh 4h ago

It’s currently her favourite place, and she wants to share it. She is carrying your hand like she would carry a kitten to the box

6

u/bio_coop 4h ago

Is she pregnant?

5

u/Cosmic_78 4h ago

She's treating you like a kitten. Is she fixed? If not she could be pregnant.

6

u/gener1cb0y 3h ago

Is there a chance she could be pregnant and looking for a spot to nest?

5

u/cherrybakewellpie 3h ago

First thing I thought because female cats do this regularly to show their humans their babies

5

u/awelladjustedadult 2h ago

Boy. If you don’t get in that box!

4

u/rustylugnuts 2h ago

"Come, join me in fort kick-ass"

6

u/Stunning_Attention82 1h ago

If it's possible she's pregnant, get her a better box to give birth.

If she's spayed and doing this, then I'd just play with her in that box. Get a wand toy and hover it over top so she can jump for it.

4

u/Earlier-Today 1h ago

"I like it in the box. I like you. I want to be in the box with you."

5

4

u/alowave 4h ago

Also, any chance our cats are related?

→ More replies (2)

4

u/Sindorella 4h ago

I’ve only seen that from pregnant cats. You can get cat pregnancy tests pretty cheap online. I don’t know how easy or effective they are but I’d be dying to try just to see. lol

5

u/JohnWoosDoveGuy 4h ago

Cats love boxes. This is the current one that has my two ladies entertained. It is a shaded place in the heat too. They will destroy it within around a month and then they get a different random box.

5

u/felis_fatus 3h ago

She likes the box and wants you to come chill in there with her.

4

u/Pixel_Knight 3h ago

I would move the hamper next to the box, OP, sit next to it and drape your hand in there with her and play some, or just hand out next to her and spend some time with her. She just wants the company of her favorite person. It’s so adorable.

5

u/Guh_pron 2h ago

You're gonna need a bigger box!

→ More replies (1)

4

u/depressed_fattie 2h ago

Looks like playful hide and seek to me, she's inviting you to play. Don't know if this applies but I try to play with them too at random moments, especially during play. Hiding behind corners and jumping out to "scare them" the way they do. But what they really like is when I pretend to be sneaky and hide (badly) and they hide and then run to "scare me". If you do this tho u should play afterwards, I do this to get them rilled up for play and get their energy out by running around the house. Also pretend hide and seek with toys, where the toys "hide" and then they find them and feel like a hunter that stalked its prey and caught it.

4

u/Frank_Jesus 58m ago

I think you should play with her while she's in the box. Some dangly toy would be ideal. She needs you to play with her while she's in there. This is cute as hell.

4

u/DontmindtheGiraffe 16m ago

GET IN THE BOX. NO TIME TO EXPLAIN. LET'S GOOOOO.

12

u/Critical_Dealer6635 5h ago

How is any of this weird? The cat is communicating to you that they want to bring you to their box, show you they like the box, and they want you near the box while they are in it. It's nothing deep. Keep the box because they like it. Maybe see if they want something in there like a towel or something.

Looking at the cat I wonder if the OP is trying to not bond with a communicative and outgoing cat.

3

u/Square_Barracuda_69 5h ago

My cat started doing this for food. She eats normally when we're not home but when we are, she seeks us out and waits for us to give her her snack time pets

3

There is nothing in the entire world that cats love more than random cardboard boxes and plastic bags. Between those and bottle caps I gave up on buying toys for my cats within the first year, they’d rather play with trash.

She’s just really excited about her new toys and wants to show you them. Maybe has also see you get rid of boxes before and wants you to keep this one.

I would maybe get rid of the bag for safety reasons but you should keep the box. If it’s an eyesore move it somewhere out of the way where the cat still has access to it.

Dude this video is one of the few that make’s me audibly go “Awwwwww.” Your cat loves you so much she is carrying you over to her favorite spot to be with her. That’s just adorable. How lucky you are your cat has chosen you

How do you not understand this? They’re being very clear. Follow them to the box.

I would have been EXTREMELY disappointed if she didn't peek up from the box once she got in.

I’m thinking they want you to chillax in the box. I love that they literally took you by the hand and pulled you.

this is very normal behavior for a cat! She wants you to run your fingers tapping along the box…

She promises not to play murder mittens with your hand.
