Advice Weird behavior from my cat recently. Anyone know what's going on
At first I thought she was gonna show me something inside the box, but there's nothing other than a nylon bag. She also runs to it when I get near it as well, and also keeps biting my hand and tries to drag me into it. What's going on? Never in my life have I seen my cat doing this.

A cat that really loves you won't wish to harm you. They are clingy and extremely affectionate.

Yeah people (myself included) always talk about how their cat would kill them if they got the chance, but my cat has never hurt me or attempted to other than when im getting her belly which is my own fault.

My cat let me put my face on his belly, and he would starts to purr. Love the smell of his belly. Maybe you can try that too sometime.

From the moment I’ve acquired my cats as kittens, I’ve stuck my face right in the bellies and raised them with belly kisses. Now they’re huge tom cats and still roll on their backs for belly kisses. I still have a face.

u/ifyoulovesatan 2h ago
We had a cat that would purr like crazy if you gave her raspberries on her belly, hahah. She loved it. But yeah any of the cats I've had or have will at the very least tolerate belly kisses if not love then.

I have one of each, LillyPig will let me pet her head and neck endlessly, but I am not allowed to elsewhere or she will bat my hand away. I would probably loose my hand altogether if I attempted to pet her belly. Miu Miu Von Monkeystein will let me pet her endlessly and often rolls over on her back when we are sitting on the sofa, encouraging me to use her as an armrest and pet her belly. Cats like people have different personalities, quite literally different strokes for different folks.

Not true. Their personalities are all unique. My tortoise cat loves me and will sleep on my lap for hours. She will also attack me for no reason. It's becoming a dangerous problem.

u/Winjin 2h ago
I've read that
1) Bears have insane smell that has dedicated receptors to sensing stuff like noradrenaline in the air, so they can literally smell fear
2) Cats have very bad sense of "scale". They have trouble understanding when something is "big" or "small" they only understand "danger" and "no danger"
(that's why a 3-kilo cat is comfortable around 700-kilo horses and is so chill that horses, nervous and skittish animals on average, are so chill with cats)
3) And that is why you see videos of cats attacking bears and bears retreating, because they see this little furry ball of fury squaring up to attack them, and their senses are like "Oh. Oh wait. This small thing. It is Not Afraid of me. AT ALL. This fight could end with injuries. Better retreat"
Not sure how true is the pp 1 and 3, the bears could just prefer retreat to confrontation and those cats could be scared out of their minds, but I love this image, and it would also explain to me why she's like "What do you mean you can't FIT in the box. Is simple. You squeeze and you in box. Humans, I swear..."

My boy cat woke me up at 3am so frantic that I thought he was going to lead me to a house fire or one of his sisters in distress. I jumped out of bed and he instead led me to a place that 6 hours earlier had been a pile of bubble wrap, but I had taken it to the garbage. Sorry, buddy.

We got our puppy a kitten when he used to get stressed about us leaving for work. (Puppie is now 6 y/o and the kitten is 5) Best thing you can ever do for your pet is to get them a friend. Heck, the whole world could use a kitten. Maybe then no more fighting? Hard to fight with a kitten love overload 🤔

That’s exactly what she wants - she wants to hide in the box and try and catch things moving along the top. Just check out that look of disappointment after she gets her human to the box, waits, and nothing happens. Time to get out the cat wand and go cat fish in a box!

They do that when they're 'nesting'. It's an urge to move all the kittens to a safe place, and sometimes that includes people.

Never seen that before. Maybe she wants you to join her in her awesome box.
Joking aside, have you tried moving the box to a different localtion, to see if she still takes you to the box or just to that corner in the room? Maybe it's about the box, maybe there is something in that corner on the wall she wants you to check out.
Also, pet the damn cat. That look of dissapointment when she pops out of the box a 2nd time.
9
u/toodleroo 3h ago
I'd move the box and if she stays in that corner I'd start seriously searching for something like a gas leak.
7
u/OverwhelmedClown 2h ago
This! It’s cute to think she just wants a playmate in the box, but …. Animals are smarter than we credit them. I’d be doin some more investigating to make sure there wasn’t something in the walls…

She wants you to pet her in the box. My cat doesn't drag me to her cave in the closet, but she'll meow at me from the door so I follow her in the bedroom, get down on my hands and knees with my head in the closet and pet her while she settles in for her nap.
10
u/Buckykattlove 5h ago
TOne of our cats does this too, leads me to the closet and wants me to pet her while she goes to sleep. My brother's cat insists on being petted on the back porch deep freezer. But only after dark. Cats are so weird.

I had one cat that used to come and try and drag me like that to under the bed when someone would visit the house. I just figured it was her “safe spot” and she wanted me to be there too. Maybe she just wants you to come and enjoy the box she’s enjoying.

this is the cutest friggin video! made me giggle cause obviously she wants you in the box with her for the fun! but alas, i don't think you would fit as well as she does. I have a children's play tunnel for my two large boys and have joined them a handful of times just because i can. if you despise the look of boxes in your home i would recommend! they also love to zoomie in and out of that thing
14
u/AnumNaseem 5h ago
I think she just wants your attention. So precious (人’∀’)
My cat did something similar too. She would take me (by lightly biting my hand and drag me) to the store room we have in our home, she would get on the shelf and meow continuously until I reach to her and pet her there lol 😂
She just made it her favorite spot I guess and wanted me to join her there and give her some love and attention ❤😌

Is she spayed? If yes, she's probably wanting you to join her in the box, or play with her in it. If no, you may soon find things in the box.

u/Nickye19 5h ago
In rats we call it stashing, they do it when they think you're cool and want you to join them. I'd think cats could be the same
10
u/Psychological_Salt93 3h ago
Im assuming there aren't kittens in that box! My girl used to get me to look after her kittens that way when she wanted a break. She would make sure I was going to keep watch before she would leave them. As they got bigger she would take the kittens and put them in with the dog to babysit.
8
9
u/EinfachNurMarc 4h ago
Any chance she’s pregnant?
Otherwise I guess she wants you to play with her in her favorite box.

8
u/69DETONATOR69 4h ago
Weird? Actually that was so cute it overloaded my cuteness meter. She wanted to show you affection and wanted you to join her in the box. What a sweet little kitty.
8
u/Limitless8609 1h ago
It is exactly how a momma cat takes you to see her babies or gives birth. She doesn’t look pregnant but that is how I have seen cats act like that. Maybe she really loves the bag or box and wants to show you?
7
u/AdelineKraxx 3h ago
That is her box, she loves it. Don’t ever get rid of it. Also she wants you to play IN the box with her.

As someone who has had pregnant queen cats in the past, I do agree with a lot of people saying she's trying to show you the best nesting area; unless she's spayed and she is just wanting you to play in the box.
6
u/WildcatCinder1022 2h ago
The only time I’ve seen a cat do that was leading her human to her litter of kittens. But as long as you know she isn’t pregnant then I think she just wants you involved in things that make her happy.
5
u/BluebirdDense1485 2h ago
That looks like the behavior of a cat bringing her kitten back to it's den.

If it's possible she's pregnant, get her a better box to give birth.
If she's spayed and doing this, then I'd just play with her in that box. Get a wand toy and hover it over top so she can jump for it.

I would move the hamper next to the box, OP, sit next to it and drape your hand in there with her and play some, or just hand out next to her and spend some time with her. She just wants the company of her favorite person. It’s so adorable.
5
4
u/depressed_fattie 2h ago
Looks like playful hide and seek to me, she's inviting you to play. Don't know if this applies but I try to play with them too at random moments, especially during play. Hiding behind corners and jumping out to "scare them" the way they do. But what they really like is when I pretend to be sneaky and hide (badly) and they hide and then run to "scare me". If you do this tho u should play afterwards, I do this to get them rilled up for play and get their energy out by running around the house. Also pretend hide and seek with toys, where the toys "hide" and then they find them and feel like a hunter that stalked its prey and caught it.
4
u/Frank_Jesus 58m ago
I think you should play with her while she's in the box. Some dangly toy would be ideal. She needs you to play with her while she's in there. This is cute as hell.
4
12
u/Critical_Dealer6635 5h ago
How is any of this weird? The cat is communicating to you that they want to bring you to their box, show you they like the box, and they want you near the box while they are in it. It's nothing deep. Keep the box because they like it. Maybe see if they want something in there like a towel or something.
Looking at the cat I wonder if the OP is trying to not bond with a communicative and outgoing cat.
3
u/Square_Barracuda_69 5h ago
My cat started doing this for food. She eats normally when we're not home but when we are, she seeks us out and waits for us to give her her snack time pets
3
u/cool_weed_dad 4h ago edited 4h ago
There is nothing in the entire world that cats love more than random cardboard boxes and plastic bags. Between those and bottle caps I gave up on buying toys for my cats within the first year, they’d rather play with trash.
She’s just really excited about her new toys and wants to show you them. Maybe has also see you get rid of boxes before and wants you to keep this one.
I would maybe get rid of the bag for safety reasons but you should keep the box. If it’s an eyesore move it somewhere out of the way where the cat still has access to it.
