Cat Picture - OC What’s going on with cats nowadays?

I remember when I was about 8yrs old in the early 80s we got a black cat named Ebony. That cat never had shots, no chips, never spayed and all she at was tender viddles, our scraps and drank water. That cat never got sick or been to a vet. She lived to 23yrs old. I got married and moved out and that cat was still alive. Once me and my siblings moved out we all got cats. They never had shots, spayed, neutered, chipped, only ate kibble, scraps and drank water and all lived past 20yrs old. Seems like every time I turn around I see a cat on here, FB or IG with some type of illness or doing strange stuff and they be so young. Including my boy I have now. Not even a year old and I’ve already spent a lot of money on vet bills due to him being sick. I’m not making this post to get down voted, or ruffle any feathers about spaying, neutering, chipping, shots, all this new foods, vitamins, supplements, etc. (my cat is in that category as well) It’s just to bring awareness to what I’ve noticed with today’s cats. So many seem sick and what’s causing it? I guess I’m just overwhelmed with my cat and all his ailments to be so young and I don’t know it it’s the vaccines, neutering him, chipping him, these boutique foods and all these supplements that’s causing this. I just remember way back when, having a cat that never got sick, never went to the vet and just ate simplistic lived a long time. Anyone else notice this?

Humor This scene from The Simpsons fills me with rage. Cats in fact love to play fetch. Why is Matt Groening pushing propaganda from Big Dog?

Advice I'm a new cat mom and I want some advice about homemade cat food.

since I can't afford buying wet cat food I make it at home, and I wanted some recommendations and some advice on how to give her a proper and balanced meals.

more than a month ago I adopted a 7-8 month old cat.

unfortunately I cannot afford to buy her her own wet food, and i can only afford buying cheap dry food. I can only feed her homemade. it's usually boiled chicken or meat, and mostly veggies like carrots, zucchini, potatoes and peas(obviously everything unsalted and unseasoned and only boiled) and I say Mostly veggies because meat is also a bit expensive so we don't buy it a lot for ourselves either but I try to add alternatives like boiled eggs.

and she takes a multivitamin that was prescribed.

Medical Questions My cat's right eye turned completely bloody purple

It happened several weeks ago, my 7 year old outdoors cat came home and I noticed there was something wrong with her eye. Initially, we thought it'd go away, but two days after it didn't, we took her to the vet. The vet then removed what was a large dry leaf blade or grass blade looking thing that was stuck in her eye. After that, her eye was fine for a few days, but then I noticed she keeps squinting it. Shortly after, I saw her eye turning into a deep bloody purple. I told my parents but the vet was closed for several days at the time, so we couldn't take her again. Instead, my mom bought her eye drops and we have been giving her eye drops for the past week. But the eye drops aren't working, her eye is a deep bloody purple as it was, so we will have to take her back to the vet soon again. (We are leaving for a 3 day vacation right now, my brother will be home to take care of her, but we will take her once we are home.)

I am really scared of what's wrong with her eye. I read in other threads that it could even be cancer. I am scared if she is going to go blind or something. So I guess what I want is assurances, because I am really dreading what the vet is going to say next time we visit. I am not ready for my cat to die yet.

Advice Help pls advise!

A friend has gone on holiday and I and another have been going to spend time with/feed her cat.

Shes back soon and earlier I bought her some flowers and left them in water on her table.

They are Lily's. Ive just realised that lillys can be TOXIC! To cats and im kind of freaking out now.

The cat is an older cat and very calm so I dont think it will jump up and try to eat them, i know its ingesting the pollen thats the issue but do i need to go and remove the flowers?

EDIT- thanks to everyone for your advice, where i am it was 1am and I had small children in bed so couldn't leave the house. My SO went down very early this morning and got the flowers they were still in plastic wrapper and cat is absolutely fine. I also spoke to my friend last night. All is well, and now i know!

Just noticed this on my cat this morning. She’s been rubbing at her ears a bit more than usual, could it be a friction burn? There are foxes and strays in our area but our garden is fenced in with diagonal mesh. One cat occasionally gets in but my cat usually scares him off. Is this worthy of a vet visit? I’m currently home alone for a few days and agoraphobic, plus I live off benefits and vet visits are a luxury unfortunately.

Advice Cats extremely stressed after moving to a new apartment - is this normal?

Hi everyone,

I moved into a new apartment yesterday with my two cats, and they both seem extremely stressed. They didn’t eat anything on the first day, although they both ate a little today.

They’re spending almost all their time hiding under the sofa and don’t seem like themselves at all. One of them has used the litter tray, while the other hasn’t yet (she has eaten and drank some water today though).

I’m trying to give them space and not force them out, but I’m really worried. Is this normal after a move? How long does it usually take for cats to adjust, and is there anything I can do to help them feel more comfortable?

Any advice or reassurance would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Medical Questions Solid, dried border of skin underneath kitten’s eye.

Post image

A hard and dry border of skin has appeared underneath my kitten’s eye. Male, a few months old, outdoors. No previous redness, swelling, discoloration, or squinting. Does not seem to bother him to the touch.

Picture left is healthy eye, picture right is afflicted eye. Should I be concerned, and are there any home remedies I can deploy if it’s a common affliction? TIA.

Medical Questions Our cat is licking his tail after he accidentally dipped it into candle wax…

Post image

The tip of my cat’s tail is now hairless after my wife and I removed all the wax. We ended up trimming it. He's been licking the tip of his tail quite often, though there are no signs of burns or bruising at all.

Is the licking normal? He almost seems like he doesn't recognize his own tail. Maybe because of the different sensation now that there's no fur on it? Could it be itching? I'm sure the hair will regrow, but should I be concerned? He's eaten normally all day. Should I be worried or could it be just adjustment behavior?

i had a dream that the pregnant cat I saw in a dream two years ago gave birth to 5 kitties, 2 orange, 2 like my stray cat Mr Potato (white with orange spots), 1 grey and 1 white .. the oldest sister (a kitten sister mind you) agreed on letting me hold one of the kittens in my hands, i chose the youngest one which was the white kitty and ahhhhh it was so so cute, i thought of sharing this here because i know r/cats redditors won't disappoint me :) is this a sign from the universal cat distribution center? .. btw this is Mr Potato..had to delete the post to upload his photos, say hi :)

Advice Dumb question, is there any way to get a kitten for family and preserve the only nice thing I own (leather recliner)?

I'm serious. This chair is going to grow old with me 😂. It's the only nice thing I've ever got myself as a single parent. Is hope lost for a kitten and a recliner both in good shape with peace and harmony? 😁 Thanks.

I think I was spoiled by my very chill childhood Birman. I've never met a chill cat like that since.
