Discussion Letting users remove posts.

Hello everyone,

As you are aware, on reddit moderators approve and remove content and subreddit subscribers can report to us.

Today we'd like to start an experiment here on r/Cats where we will give trusted subreddit participants access to a keyword that will allow them to remove posts.

When you exceed a certain level of subreddit specific comment karma and when you have a CQS score of highest you can now use the keyword "!remove" to pull a post from our feed. (Spelled exactly like that, case sensitive, top-level comment only as opposed to a reply to a comment.)

This will work for posts only, not for comments.

There are some things to keep in mind:

  • When you comment here on an account that exceeds the limit automod will assign you a special flair class and send you a message explaining you can now use the keyword.

  • Users will keep their existing flair text. However, changing your flair to a different pre-made flair option will also reset the flair class giving you access to this removal ability. Next comment you make it will be re-applied and you will be sent another message.

  • We are sent a modmail when a subscriber removes a post, explaining what post was removed and who used the keyword. Please do not abuse this ability. If posts are removed for bad reasons we will take away your ability to remove posts.

  • That means, use this keyword if you see spam or other rulebreaking posts only.

  • Please keep in mind that it is currently very popular to accuse posters of making an AI generated post. An accusation does not mean that what they are being accused of is true. Human beings can detect AI at 60% accuracy, just a little better than the results of flipping a coin. An AI can only accurately detect AI content if an AI watermark is attached to the image. It is best not to remove a post just because someone is accused of something. Use your own best judgement and our rules as your litmus, not what other people are saying.

  • Since this is a test run, when I ran a very minor proof of concept trial, a few people have already been assigned this special flair class who have not been sent a message. /u/kiaeej, /u/chux4w, /u/MilmoWK, /u/ms_rdr, /u/Electronic_Ad357, /u/WhiteMouse42097, /u/BeMoreKnope, /u/bluecedarood, /u/Robobanditos, congratulations, you can remove posts.

  • Should you for any reason not want to have this ability then you should send us a modmail after receiving the message from automod. That way we can exempt you in our code.

  • Initially we are going to monitor how this functions closely so we can see if we need to make changes to the threshold level for activation.

  • Nothing will change about the way we handle user-made reports on content. This is not a replacement for that, but an addition. If you see rulebreaking content of any kind, please report.

We hope that this change will be something that has a positive influence on the content on this subreddit.

Thank you for reading, and thank you all for making this subreddit a great place to be

Advice Weird behavior from my cat recently. Anyone know what's going on

13.1k Upvotes

At first I thought she was gonna show me something inside the box, but there's nothing other than a nylon bag. She also runs to it when I get near it as well, and also keeps biting my hand and tries to drag me into it. What's going on? Never in my life have I seen my cat doing this.

Medical Questions How pregnant is this mama?

She’s a stray we’re taking in and she is super pregnant. She’ll be getting spayed as soon as she is safe to. I figure she’s too far along for a spay abort (?). She’s a younger kitty so her frame is pretty small, how far along do y’all think she is? She’s being fed kitten food and has some nesting options. Advice is welcome!

Hey guys,

Heartbroken as I’m writing this. I posted about Lucy a couple times prior when she was diagnosed with Squamous cell carcinoma a couple weeks ago. She quickly declined and the tumor on her tongue has grown. I can tell she’s starting to deal with a lot of pain. Nobody knows how long it’s hurt, but her demeanor is changing, and i can’t stand to see her struggling. She’s still my sweetheart and has shown nothing but affection.

For all the long nights I was on call for work and was sleeping downstairs on the couch, exhausted. She would curl up next to me and not leave my side. I couldn’t have asked for a better cat.

I took her outside for the past hour and have just let her feel the breeze on her fur while I brush her. Tomorrow we say goodbye to our sweet girl. I just want to let you guys know I’ve appreciated all the support on my prior posts. I hope she can make friends up there with the other sweet souls that have crossed over the rainbow.

For Our Beloved Oliver

There are some souls who find us exactly when we need them, and seven years ago, one tiny, frightened tuxedo kitten changed our lives forever.

At only five weeks old, Oliver appeared all alone on my daughter’s doorstep—hungry, terrified, and looking for someone to love him. Little did we know that the tiny kitten we scooped into our arms would one day become the king of our castle.

Oliver grew into the most beautiful, handsome, gentle, loving, and kind soul. He wasn’t just our cat; he was our family. He adored his dog and cat siblings, filling our home with laughter, comfort, and companionship. He ruled the house with quiet confidence, always reminding us that he was in charge, yet his heart was as soft as could be.

He loved his human family with every ounce of his being. Whether he was greeting us at the door, curling up beside us after a long day, or simply watching over us with those wise, loving eyes, Oliver had a way of making every ordinary day feel special. He gave us unconditional love without ever asking for anything in return.

Yesterday, our hearts were shattered.

Our sweet Oliver was diagnosed with what is most likely intestinal cancer. The disease is stealing him from us far too quickly, and the prognosis is devastating. There are no words to describe the helplessness of watching someone you love so deeply slip away while wishing with everything you have that you could somehow stop time.

If love alone could heal him, Oliver would live forever.

This Thursday afternoon, we will give our precious boy the greatest final gift we can—a peaceful passing at home, surrounded by the family who loves him beyond measure. He will leave this world wrapped in our arms, hearing our voices, feeling our kisses, and knowing that he has always been, and will always be, cherished.

To the world, Oliver may have been just one tuxedo cat.

To us, he is irreplaceable.

He is the tiny kitten who found our doorstep and our hearts.

He is the brave little soul who became our protector, our comfort, our laughter, and our constant companion.

He is family.

Oliver, thank you for every head bump, every purr, every cuddle, every silly moment, and every ounce of unconditional love you gave us. Thank you for choosing us seven years ago.

We would give anything for one more healthy day with you. One more nap in the sunshine. One more greeting at the door. One more chance to tell you how deeply you are loved.

Our hearts are breaking, but they are forever better because you were in them.

Run free when it’s time, our sweet boy. Until we meet again, you will remain the King of our Castle and the keeper of a piece of each of our hearts.

Cat Picture - OC Daisy sat on my dress 🧔

My in-laws kitty, Daisy's always been very, very shy. When my husband and I got married in his parents yard none of us were expecting her to be as social as she was. But the best part was when she came and laid on my dress while my aunt was taking photos of me. Daisy made me feel like a princess, you know, like Snow White sitting in the forest surrounded by animals vibes. It was so magical and I'm so glad I have this picture forever

There is fluid building up around his heart again, he has trouble breathing, and doesn't want to move anymore. He still purrs loudly, demands his treats and loves his chin scratches.

I was hopeing for a few more weeks but all I got was three days.

I dont want him to go and leave his sister alone but there is nothing more to do for him. After work he is going to the vet and won't be coming home.

Medical Questions Cat Howling Sounds?

Hello, approximately two months ago my cat started making this sound. It is the fourth occurrence now within the last two months and I can’t figure out why. Each time she did it I was not in front of her and she is normally very vocal, looks for me everywhere she goes.

I took her to the vet, asked multiple vets, who did bloodwork (no issues found) and xray (no issues found) except some poop buildup perhaps because she had eaten before I took her. The vets said she appears perfectly fine. She has all her vaccines and most people are telling me this looks behavioral.

The first time she did it, I rushed to her from another room and pet her and she did stop. Second time (2 weeks after the first), she kept doing it for a few seconds longer after I was by her and then stopped. Same the third time (following week) and fourth time (1 month later) now. She stays quiet afterwards, somewhat immobile and then walks off like nothing is wrong. Runs, plays, jumps, everything back to normal. Following days too, it’s like nothing happened.

She isn’t shaking it looks like (seizure) and one thing I do see is that she has been going out of the litter box but that is something she has been doing occasionally since birth. She is three now, first two years it was difficult training her, she’d go in and out, vets said it’s just how she prefers. I changed litters, litter box locations, foods, everything. Trained her to go in the litter box for about a year (and she did) and now she has gone back to going out of it like she initially did her first two years. I once again tried cleaning litter, everything. She also had to get pyometra surgery 1+ year ago and has been fine for a year after that (spayed and all). No issues. But this just started 2 months ago and she always does it when I’m not in the room. I give her toys to keep her distracted. Play cat tv on youtube she enjoys. But this howling is worrying me and everybody keeps telling me she is fine.

When she does it I take her to the litter box and she doesn’t looks like she needs to go. Give her food, she doesn’t want to eat. She just walks off like nothing happened. Any advice is really appreciated.

Thank you very much.

They seem to know they're not supposed to - this was literally us catching them red-handed.

Is this normal?

Edit: Thank you to everyone who took the time of your day to leave a comment, we (including the horndogs) appreciate it šŸ’–

Advice ā€œsad eyesā€ of a feral cat and his/her sounds

Thumbnail
gallery
2.9k Upvotes

So, about 3/4 weeks ago this feral cat started showing up on my parents’ property, and I have a few questions

First of all, is this half-closed, ā€œsadā€ shape of the eyes simply a natural feature of this particular cat, or does it indicate an illness or something else? I’ve never seen a cat with such ā€œsadā€ eyes (I feel like the photos don’t quite capture them well, but I couldn’t get any closer). At the same time, I don’t see any discharge, irritation, etc., in those eyes.

Second, I get the impression that the cat is a healthy weight and has no visible physical problems, but sometimes I hear it wheezing and its nose sounds congested (you can hear it a little in the recording where it’s eating, video in the comments). I have a few Doxybactin antibiotic tablets at home that I used to give to my own cat. Do you think I could try mixing them into this cat’s food as well, or do you think that since no specific illness has been diagnosed, it’s better not to give them to him/her? I should add that sometimes the cat doesn’t come to eat on a given day, so I couldn’t guarantee that it’d get the pill every day.

And a third question: What’s that sound in the latest recording (video in comments)? I’m 99% sure it was this cat making that sound in the bushes a few minutes after she/he ate. After a few seconds, it stopped making it. Is that the sound of a female cat calling for males?

Adoption Abandoned Cat

Someone left their cat behind when they moved out of their apartment in Philly. Now scrambling to find the poor thing a home. The cat was left on purpose, tenant no longer wanted the cat. Advice Urgent!!!! Cat I've been feeding since she was a tiny baby is stuck under my floorboard. No idea how to get her out or how she got there.

Post image
783 Upvotes

I've been feeding her through the small hole. I became concerned after not seeing her for two days because that was very unlike her. She usually stays under the house or on my porch with the other stray cats. I kept hearing faint cries here and there, and today, while I was looking out my back door, I felt the floor move slightly. I pulled back a piece of the flooring, and there she was, her little eyes staring up at me. I feel so helpless. She's such a sweet, beautiful cat, and I love her dearly. Who can I call to help rescue her?

UPDATE - I contacted animal control and a police officer was dispatched. I just got notified that animal control and the fire department both can't help me, as they need permission from management/ landlord to tear the board up. I'll have to wait until the morning to contact the landlord. For the people who keep saying maybe she's stuck. No shit she's stuck!!!! If she knew her way out, she would've come out already. I couldn't get the floorboards up myself, which is why help was contacted!!!!!

My JJ passed last July 11, Saturday, at 5:50am. I held her as she quietly took her last breath. I buried her that morning and I felt that a part of me died with heršŸ˜”

Does this get easier? Sometimes the grief overwhelms me and I don’t know what to do anymore.

My dearest JJ,
Thank you for all the love you gave me. Almost 16 years with you isn’t really enough but I know I will see you again in our next life.
Please visit me in my dreams. I love you and I miss you already.

1st photo- she was 8 months old when i adopted her 2011

I found charlie paralyzed this morning and rushed him to the vet where he was diagnosed with Feline Aortic Thromboembolism (FATE), a blood clot to his spine. The only option was to put him down. Im devasted.

I adopted Charlie and his sister Lucy in copenhagen 5.5 years ago at 9 months old, moved them to malta with me and last year brought them back to new zealand where they have been living the best life.

Luckily his suffering was minimal, but im bereft. He was my little buddy.
