Discussion / Question Can we be brutally honest about the palworld debate for a second?
I'm gonna be completly honest for a second, I will grant that a couple of the pals designs are clearly based off of pokemon, but I think the lengths people go to to say that certain pals a knockoffs of pokemon are ridiculous.
Now that 1.0 is out the game is fresh on everyone's mind and it's become extremely popular again, which has pokemon fans (not all or even most pokemon fans to be clear, but predominantly pokemon fans) angry about the game again and comparing pals with pokemon, panthalus in particular is one they're pointing at. Like let's take this comparison dead seriously, take all off the features from both of these creatures, body structure, limbs, patterns, colors, details, now discard anything that the two of them don't share. The only thing you have left is a blank teardrop shape with two eyes. What is the argument at that point? As the first guy pointed out, the only thing the two designs have in common is legitimately just the fact that both of them are whales.
People are reaching so far with some of these comparisons that some of them don't even make sense, like I've seen people claim wixen is a copy of braixen, and I'm just thinking "...no?"

Discussion / Question Suggestions for a game that captures this feeling?
You guys know of any games that make you feel like you’re in a desolate post apocalypse world? And I mean like you are the lone survivor and you’re just fighting to stay alive. Besides The last of us.

Discussion / Question Whats a very useful mechanic you didnt "discover" until very late into the game?
Without spoiling anything, but in Clair Obscure, I didnt pay enough attention to Lune's skilltree and just found out after 30 something hours, that she has a skill for reviving. And I always ran out of revival-items..
Whats your picks?

Image / Video Video game mini-haul
Checked out this awesome game store in Tampa right next to USF called R U Game? And got this haul! Super awesome store! If you’re in the area I highly recommend you check it out! As for my haul, Deadpool for PS4 for a hundo didn’t hurt and is totally worth having this piece of history!

Discussion / Question I get more immersed in games when they remind me they are games
Metal Gear is the perfect example of this. Everything about feels like it is designed to remind you that you are playing a game and it does this without sacrificing the cinematic aspects of the game.
Many studios have you grounded in the games reality the entire time and some even limit player freedom to do so. I enjoy these games but I find them much harder to get truly immersed in.

Discussion / Question What is the most fun you had playing a game unconventionally?
I got into an argument with a bro on another sub, he was advertising a way to bypass part of the game by cleverly building a bridge.
I thought that this way people will lose part of the game that the developers worked hard on.
but then I started thinking, what if he genuinely having fun playing like that? what if finding those shortcuts gives him the same satisfaction as for me to explore the environment and the plot.
So I wanted to hear if any of you noticed an experience where you were clearly playing the game not as intended but never the less, you felt you were having the same, or even more fun?

Discussion / Question Is there a video game that also factors in environmental sounds as a mechanic when it comes to staying stealthy?
For example in Skyrim, a lot of the dungeons have a blacksmith room where the enemy is sharpening their sword with a whetstone, the sounds of grinding happens in intervals. The player could use that as a way to mask their footsteps, etc.
And for that matter what, is there a close consensus on what video game has the most realistic stealth mechanics?

Discussion / Question I Want to Love Horror Games, but Fear Keeps Stopping Me
Hey everyone,
This might sound a bit paradoxical, but I have a question.
I’d really like to get into horror games because I find the genre incredibly interesting, but my fear keeps holding me back. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the tension, I actually think that’s part of what makes horror games so appealing. The problem is that I get so scared that it becomes difficult for me to keep playing.
Has anyone else experienced this? Were you able to build up a sort of “horror tolerance” over time? If so, do you have any tips on how you got used to it?
I know the whole point of horror games is to make you feel scared and on edge, but I’d love to reach a point where it’s exciting rather than overwhelming.
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any advice.
Thanks!

Discussion / Question Which Farcry game gives you the best Farcry experience?
Lately I've been going back and playing older games that I wasn't old enough for at the time to play them, and Farcry has been on my radar for quite a few years, I'd watch my friend play Farcry 4 on his Xbox and I thought it looked pretty fun. Since then however I've heard conflicting arguments, that and Ubisoft hasn't been in very good graces lately, so if there are any Farcry fans that could let me know which entry defined the franchise for you I'd appreciate it!

Discussion / Question How difficult would it be to do a pacifist run in the current game your playing?
Not hurt anyone. You could try to disable them, talking them out of it. Without actually hurting anyone?
Impossible
Very hard
Ok
Easy
Automatic
I'm playing persona Tactica so it's practically impossible to do a pacifist run

Discussion / Question What's a thing you genuinely dislike in games when you speak about it people keep thinking it's a skill issue or you missed something but no, you simply don't like it?
For me, it's puzzles, mazes and the lack of proper orientation tools like a real map or quest markers (I'm the kind of guy who gets lost without a gps or a map irl, I don't need that struggle replicated in video games, thank you).

Image / Video Couldn’t resist buying all three. I had to have them !!!
Just kidding. I never had them. That's why you don't see me holding them with my lovable mug in the frame. Also, the GameCube community removed this through automod, so I looked for the most meme-friendly general gaming subreddit.
With that said, I've always had problems with "the worst games of all time." I feel that it's a very highly curated list driven by cultural excitement and overreactions.
The kind of people who pay too much attention to that list are the people who will have a personal crisis if you show them a Superman 64 cartridge. What's your take on notoriously bad games?

Discussion / Question What is the point of Jailbreaking a console?
I just really need it explained to me. I have never done this, and the one person I know who tried it messed it up and got his account banned with the console company (I think it was Sony, but I can’t remember)
I’m 48. I feel like I’m too stupid or old to understand what it does. And why people are advertising that they’re buying jailbroken ps4 pro’s or Nintendo DS.
I feel really dumb about this. But you don’t learn if you don’t ask. I expect plenty of people to make sneering comments at me, and I accept that, but I just want to learn what it actually does. I guess it’s like piracy, but the last time I played a pirated game was 20 years ago and on a disc.
So, please explain, and roast away I guess.

Discussion / Question Looking for a game like BG3 but way easier for PS5
After not playing games since like 1996, I started borrowing my son’s Switch last year and got addicted to Diablo 3. Then I really wanted something with a little more adventure and story and room to move around. So I bought a PS5 so I could play Baldurs Gate 3. I love it, but it can be kind of a lot for someone who is a total noob like me.
Is there anything kinda similar but a LOT easier?
