Discussion / Question Can we be brutally honest about the palworld debate for a second?

Post image
556 Upvotes

I'm gonna be completly honest for a second, I will grant that a couple of the pals designs are clearly based off of pokemon, but I think the lengths people go to to say that certain pals a knockoffs of pokemon are ridiculous.

Now that 1.0 is out the game is fresh on everyone's mind and it's become extremely popular again, which has pokemon fans (not all or even most pokemon fans to be clear, but predominantly pokemon fans) angry about the game again and comparing pals with pokemon, panthalus in particular is one they're pointing at. Like let's take this comparison dead seriously, take all off the features from both of these creatures, body structure, limbs, patterns, colors, details, now discard anything that the two of them don't share. The only thing you have left is a blank teardrop shape with two eyes. What is the argument at that point? As the first guy pointed out, the only thing the two designs have in common is legitimately just the fact that both of them are whales.

People are reaching so far with some of these comparisons that some of them don't even make sense, like I've seen people claim wixen is a copy of braixen, and I'm just thinking "...no?"

You guys know of any games that make you feel like you’re in a desolate post apocalypse world? And I mean like you are the lone survivor and you’re just fighting to stay alive. Besides The last of us.

Discussion / Question What's a thing you genuinely dislike in games when you speak about it people keep thinking it's a skill issue or you missed something but no, you simply don't like it?

For me, it's puzzles, mazes and the lack of proper orientation tools like a real map or quest markers (I'm the kind of guy who gets lost without a gps or a map irl, I don't need that struggle replicated in video games, thank you).

Discussion / Question Whats a very useful mechanic you didnt "discover" until very late into the game?

Without spoiling anything, but in Clair Obscure, I didnt pay enough attention to Lune's skilltree and just found out after 30 something hours, that she has a skill for reviving. And I always ran out of revival-items..

Whats your picks?

Just kidding. I never had them. That's why you don't see me holding them with my lovable mug in the frame. Also, the GameCube community removed this through automod, so I looked for the most meme-friendly general gaming subreddit.

With that said, I've always had problems with "the worst games of all time." I feel that it's a very highly curated list driven by cultural excitement and overreactions.

The kind of people who pay too much attention to that list are the people who will have a personal crisis if you show them a Superman 64 cartridge. What's your take on notoriously bad games?

Discussion / Question What controller features would you like to see in the next generation consoles?

Upvotes

I would like to see the introduction of back buttons either as remappable buttons or even more ideal, completely functional one. I want this so that the player could have more choice to bind the game's input to other buttons, also on the ring and pinky fingers on the hand are the only ones that havent been utillised. If game makers dont feel like having inputs for those back buttons that's fine, after all it's no harm to grant players more choices to opt for.

Discussion / Question I get more immersed in games when they remind me they are games

Metal Gear is the perfect example of this. Everything about feels like it is designed to remind you that you are playing a game and it does this without sacrificing the cinematic aspects of the game.

Many studios have you grounded in the games reality the entire time and some even limit player freedom to do so. I enjoy these games but I find them much harder to get truly immersed in.

Discussion / Question How difficult would it be to do a pacifist run in the current game your playing?

Upvotes

Not hurt anyone. You could try to disable them, talking them out of it. Without actually hurting anyone?

Impossible

Very hard

Ok

Easy

Automatic

I'm playing persona Tactica so it's practically impossible to do a pacifist run

Discussion / Question Everyones favourite maps

Upvotes

Me and a coworker were talking about game maps the other day. I couldn't think of my favourite. Like GTA is basically just an old school city paper map. I really liked how they did the Dead Space map. It had a modern take on the old school Resident Evil style map. My favourite map was from the greatest game ever A Link to the past. But realistically, it was also just a basic paper map style by design. I love a good stylized map but can pick one that is the best.

TLDR: the question is. What is your favourite game map? Doesn't have to be the best game ever blah blah. Just a map that made you "wow" when you saw it.

Thanks for your time
