Discussion / Question I miss the feeling of older games
I can’t even call it nostalgia because a large chunk of them I played way later into my adult years, but I feel like older games (ps2, even 360 era) had a certain charm to them that I can’t explain.
The music they used to put in their games, the vibes, the energy, the experimentation and not being scared to try something different because “from a business standpoint regurgitated xyz formula prints money” etc.
We still get good games now, but there was a certain vibe of the older gens I miss. Felt like they were trying just about anything for better or for worse, which just added that sense of endless possibilities to games at the time.
Add on the fact that we used to get midnight launches that made these game releases feel like real events.
Idk, I kinda miss the old vibes.

Discussion / Question After GTA 6 I Hope Rockstar Returns to Making Different Games
I hope GTA VI is the last time Rockstar makes us wait this long. After it launches, I want to see them go back to making other games instead of putting all their resources into GTA again
I don't care how big GTA VI is— imo no game should take over a decade while every other franchise sits on the shelf

Discussion / Question Did Realism Ruin Videogames?
There was a certain charm to 90's-early/mid 2000's gaming. Not sure what it is.
Example, FO4 is superior to NV & 3, but the latter 2 feel better imo. All the Fallout heads/creators rush to FO4 to describe lore and mysteries within their videos.
FO4 was the most played Fallout during its' surge in popularity following the release of the new show. Then, why is it considered one of the worse Fallouts?
Sonic’s overall popularity decreased significantly after the 1990s. Many Sonic fans will also tell you game quality decreased as-well.
Pokémon is another example of a fandom which favors past titles, over the new ones.
While series such as Final Fantasy are having a identity crisis, which surged after every console generation (Turn-base, action, MMO......XI is great though).
Why are past games so fondly looked upon? New titles? Not so much..........Is it all nostalgia?

Discussion / Question What are your top 5 must play AAA games (2010+)?
Here is mine:
Uncharted 4 - My favorite game of all time. Amazing story, characters, gameplay, pacing, graphics... everything feels incredibly polished. It honestly raised my standards for what a great game should be.
Red Dead Redemption 2 - One of the best stories and character arcs I've ever experienced.
GTA 5 - I just love this game and the main characters.
Watch Dogs 2 - The hacking mechanics and stealth were so much fun.
Detroit: Become Human - My favorite choices matter game.

Discussion / Question What is the point of Jailbreaking a console?
I just really need it explained to me. I have never done this, and the one person I know who tried it messed it up and got his account banned with the console company (I think it was Sony, but I can’t remember)
I’m 48. I feel like I’m too stupid or old to understand what it does. And why people are advertising that they’re buying jailbroken ps4 pro’s or Nintendo DS.
I feel really dumb about this. But you don’t learn if you don’t ask. I expect plenty of people to make sneering comments at me, and I accept that, but I just want to learn what it actually does. I guess it’s like piracy, but the last time I played a pirated game was 20 years ago and on a disc.
So, please explain, and roast away I guess.

Discussion / Question Can we be brutally honest about the palworld debate for a second?
I'm gonna be completly honest for a second, I will grant that a couple of the pals designs are clearly based off of pokemon, but I think the lengths people go to to say that certain pals a knockoffs of pokemon are ridiculous.
Now that 1.0 is out the game is fresh on everyone's mind and it's become extremely popular again, which has pokemon fans (not all or even most pokemon fans to be clear, but predominantly pokemon fans) angry about the game again and comparing pals with pokemon, panthalus in particular is one they're pointing at. Like let's take this comparison dead seriously, take all off the features from both of these creatures, body structure, limbs, patterns, colors, details, now discard anything that the two of them don't share. The only thing you have left is a blank teardrop shape with two eyes. What is the argument at that point? As the first guy pointed out, the only thing the two designs have in common is legitimately just the fact that both of them are whales.
People are reaching so far with some of these comparisons that some of them don't even make sense, like I've seen people claim wixen is a copy of braixen, and I'm just thinking "...no?"

Discussion / Question Hot take: Dark Souls, and its derivatives, are poorly designed messes
I’ve played dark souls one, demon souls, bloodborne, and sekiro. Like with most games, these have tradeoffs. Usually if a game has really good gameplay the story could be better in a few ways and vice versa.
I think souls games and soulslikes suffer severely from not having either of these things. The stories are arbitrary and boring as hell, the game relies solely on its gameplay and the only selling point of the gameplay (most of the time) is the difficulty. There is absolutely zero gameplay depth to most of these games. Roll, hit, roll, hit, roll, hit. I’m not saying that these don’t take skill to complete, but there’s no incentive to want that skill.
The difficulty of the games isn’t necessarily the problem either, it’s the fact that it’s the worst kind of difficulty there is. “You do very little damage while your enemies deal damage worth half your health bar.” There’s no nuance to it. They rely on boring and overly hard gameplay that isn’t fun to make up for their lack of story telling.
Sekiro is probably the best one I’ve played just because the gameplay is actually satisfying once you get the hang of it, and the story isn’t a total mess, but it still suffers from the same issues as the rest of them. When I get past a fight in bloodborne I don’t think “that was fun, and I’m proud of myself for figuring out to beat it” I think, “thank god that’s over.”
I might get some hate for this but it’s infuriating because souls likes have basically replaced true hack and slash games from AAA studios, and those are way more fun.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk

Discussion / Question What’s the game that you love even if it has bad graphics?
I think that there are such beautiful games that are nerfed by the crappy graphics. I just want to know your opinion because for me those games are M&B2 bannerlord and max payne 1 for the ps2. So let me know what do you think about it.

Discussion / Question Hi, does anyone know about the game fez, its sequel, and its creator.
It’s an indie 3D platformer game that was made back in 2013 by Phil fish and polytron. Has anyone else ever wanted to see this game come back? I fell in love with this game all the way back in 2016, so when I heard about a cancelled second game I was crushed. I already asked people on two different subreddits because I want this game back, but I have no idea how to do it. this is the first time I have ever been passionate about something and I don’t want to watch it go to nothing, I love this game and everything about it, I don’t want to lose it and watch it become obscure.

Discussion / Question At what point does someone become a real gamer?
We throw the word gamer around all the time, but everyone seems to have a different definition. Is it about the platform you play on? The number of hours? The types of games you enjoy?
Personally, I don't think the platform matters. If you genuinely enjoy playing games and gaming is one of your hobbies, you're a gamer. Whether that's on PC, console, mobile, or even retro hardware.

Discussion / Question Which game has the best gameplay? For you personally
For me it's Resident Evil 4 (Remake). It just feels right. Jumping inside the closest window when some random undead is chasing you. The kinda-stiff movements of Leon adds the intensity. Mention preferably only one game

Almost Heaven east of Whiterun
High Hrothgar Mountains and snowy rivers
Life is old there older than the trees
Younger than the mountains growing like a breeze
Skyrim roads take me home
To the place I belong
East of Whiterun Khajiit mama
Take me home Skyrim roads
All my memories gather around her
Silverpeak Lodge lady not a stranger to blue water. Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of Nord mead teardrop in my eye
Skyrim roads take me home
To the place I belong
East of Whiterun Khajiit mama
Take me home Skyrim roads
I hear her voice in the mornin' hour she writes me through the couriers letters reminds me of my home far away
Riding down the road I get a feeling
That I should've been home yesterday, yesterday
Skyrim roads take me home to the place I belong. East of Whiterun Khajiit mama

Image / Video Would y'all believe me if I told you there's a train in this game? - Crimson Desert
After 500 hours, I still haven't ridden it. I read a tip online that there are lots of good mining locations along the route of the tracks. I should farm some materials while enjoying a nice train ride.

Discussion / Question Black Flag Resynced Has $90 of day 1 DLC?
Ubisoft does a massive cash grab yet again. There are 10 add on DLC's totaling $90 USD, for a remake of a game from 2014. At least the add ons are mainly cosmetic, aside from a few weapons, but it just seems ridiculous.

Discussion / Question What modern 3d VGs are the most pronouncedly creatively stylistic?
Visually, basically opposite end of the stylistic spectrum as photorealism, but not particularly low resolution (since greater fidelity offers more details that are integral to embodying style) nor 2-dimensional.
Mechanically, essentially anything that is especially unique and obviously different from hyperreal-simulation kinds of play.
Preference for ample complexity. Bonus points for polished delivery. What games are worth highlighting?

Image / Video Couldn’t resist buying all three. I had to have them !!!
Just kidding. I never had them. That's why you don't see me holding them with my lovable mug in the frame. Also, the GameCube community removed this through automod, so I looked for the most meme-friendly general gaming subreddit.
With that said, I've always had problems with "the worst games of all time." I feel that it's a very highly curated list driven by cultural excitement and overreactions.
The kind of people who pay too much attention to that list are the people who will have a personal crisis if you show them a Superman 64 cartridge. What's your take on notoriously bad games?

Discussion / Question What's a thing you genuinely dislike in games when you speak about it people keep thinking it's a skill issue or you missed something but no, you simply don't like it?
For me, it's puzzles, mazes and the lack of proper orientation tools like a real map or quest markers (I'm the kind of guy who gets lost without a gps or a map irl, I don't need that struggle replicated in video games, thank you).

Checked out this awesome game store in Tampa right next to USF called R U Game? And got this haul! Super awesome store! If you’re in the area I highly recommend you check it out! As for my haul, Deadpool for PS4 for a hundo didn’t hurt and is totally worth having this piece of history!

Discussion / Question Which Farcry game gives you the best Farcry experience?
Lately I've been going back and playing older games that I wasn't old enough for at the time to play them, and Farcry has been on my radar for quite a few years, I'd watch my friend play Farcry 4 on his Xbox and I thought it looked pretty fun. Since then however I've heard conflicting arguments, that and Ubisoft hasn't been in very good graces lately, so if there are any Farcry fans that could let me know which entry defined the franchise for you I'd appreciate it!
