We're making long range predictions for films, 4 weeks out from their premieres. You will predict the opening weekend, domestic total and worldwide gross of these films. These predictions will be open for 48 hours and the results will be polled to form a consensus and posted the next week.

So let's meet the two films for the week and analyze each pro and con.

The End of Oak Street

The film is directed and written by David Robert Mitchell (It Follows and Under the Silver Lake), and stars Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, and Christian Convery. After a mysterious cosmic event uproots Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to a location with dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures, a family soon discovers that their survival depends on sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings.

Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie

The film is directed by Cal Brunker and is the sequel to Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie. It stars the voices of Carter Young, Mckenna Grace, Lucien Duncan-Reid, Nylan Parthipan, Terry Crews, Jennifer Hudson, Fortune Feimster, Jameela Jamil, Bill Nye, Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, and Henry Bolan. The Paw Patrol end up in an unknown world filled with dinosaurs. With the help of their new friend Rex, they help save the endangered species from Mayor Humdinger's plan of kidnapping them.

Now that you met this week's new releases (are you noticing a pattern here?), let's look at some pros and cons.

PROS

• The End of Oak Street is sold as a spectacle for the masses, and its selling point (dinosaurs) should build some intrigue among moviegoers. Given the popularity of the Jurassic World films, maybe audiences will tune in to another dino adventure. It hits the right notes on building suspense: there's a strange event, but trailers want you to question why is this happening. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor are also some recognizable stars, with Hathaway coming off the success of The Devil Wears Prada 2 and the soon-to-be-released The Odyssey. David Robert Mitchell is also a respected name in cinephile circles, thanks to the cult following of his prior films. It's also set to have access to IMAX screens, a format that has been essential for a lot of blockbusters.

• The Paw Patrol movies have been very successful in their transition to the big screen. The 2021 original earned a pretty good $144 million worldwide, while the 2023 sequel rose to $205 million. Goes to show that even though the franchise is 13 years old, it remains as popular as ever with kids and the addition of dinosaurs could prove fun. It could also benefit from being the first animated film in over a month, as Minions & Monsters and Toy Story 5 will be winding down by that point.

CONS

• David Robert Mitchell may have his fans, but he is nowhere close to being a recognizable name to audiences. It Follows made $21 million worldwide, while Under the Silver Lake was dumped by A24 and earned polarizing reviews. This is his most expensive project at $85 million, so it must perform far better than his prior films. The Jurassic World films are massive moneymakers, but other dino films haven't fared well (like the recent flop 65). Hathaway and McGregor are recognizable names, but they've had their fair amount of duds as well. It's also going to face competition from Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will still be going strong around that point.

• The Paw Patrol movies are strictly for kids and kids only, which limits the potential of adding more fans outside that demographic. The film also hopes to benefit from summer weekdays, but it's mid August, and a lot of those kids will go to school very soon.
