IMPORTANT Combating Individual Influence Using Submission Limits

The recent post by /u/flintsparc has reinvigorated a very old point of contention for how moderation on /r/syriancivilwar should be handled. The core message of his post really strikes at the core of the AEO reddit initiative and is beyond the scope of 'normal' subreddit moderation. That being said, a plurality of our users are well informed enough to be unashamed in their partisanship. You've all come here to inform yourself on the realities of this conflict. The TL;DR of this post is as follows:

All users are now limited to 3 (three) submissions in a 24 hour period.

When I first joined the moderator team here a little more than a year ago I was reminded of a singular ideal: freedom of speech. This was the singular fallback point for every moderator decision that I have made in my time here. Since then, we've implemented the AI rule in order to ensure that we're adjusted for the new challenges since 2011 that reddit itself is facing as a platform.

Now we're implementing a new standard via a submission limit. This will largely mask, not solve, the problem we're facing. Three submissions is MORE than enough to represent the stories presented to an individual. Hopefully this will not just combat influence campaigns but also make our contributors more discerning about the stories they choose to share.

It is entirely possible that this restriction be lifted during an offensive, if this standard existed in December 2024, there would have been a massive gap in coverage on the subreddit. That is not something would tolerate as this subreddit has always been a place for immediate reporting, especially when compared with its contemporaries. Should martial law need to be implemented, the submission limit could be lifted(or whatever else we deem necessary, idfk).

I do believe this new standard will be received well by the large majority of our userbase. However, if you have an issue with this then now is the time to raise it to us in our modmail. Please note that this new standard is subject to change for any reason that the moderator team sees fit. Thank you for your attention to this matter and thank you for being a member of our community.

The recent foiled smuggling attempt adds additional fuel to the fire between Syria and Hezbollah, not to mention Trumps claims that "Syria will take care of Hezbollah". Of course this inquiry has become common in discussions regarding Syria these last few weeks, so do you think the circumstances have changed over the last 2 months?

More details on the failed IED attack in the Suwayda-Damascus highway

Suwayda 24 has obtained details and preliminary information from security sources and eyewitnesses regarding the explosion that occurred yesterday near the village of "Baraq" on the Damascus-Suwayda road, which resulted in the death of the vehicle's driver.

Sources reported that the car, driven by the individual identified as (Mounir Talal Kahal), was observed moving back and forth between the villages of "Al-Sura Al-Kubra" and "Baraq" before it came to a stop on the side of the main road just moments before the explosion occurred inside it.

Details of the On-Site Examination Eyewitnesses who rushed to the scene immediately after the incident stated that the explosion caused severe disfigurement to the driver's body, particularly in the abdominal and pelvic areas, along with the severing of his hand—facts that definitively rule out any hypothesis of him being subjected to gunfire prior to the incident.

On the other hand, the on-site examination of the vehicle confirmed that the explosion originated from inside the driver's cabin; the inspection revealed that the inward buckling of the internal structure proves the force and direction of the blast were from inside to outside, a conclusion further supported by the trajectories of the shrapnel that penetrated from inside the vehicle toward the exterior, while the external parts remained intact from any signs of external targeting.

Security Situation and Investigations In a related context, a security source told Suwayda 24 that the preliminary investigations conducted by the relevant authorities confirm the explosion took place inside the vehicle. The source added that security apparatus continue their search operations, inquiries, and evidence collection to uncover the circumstances of the incident and its full background, with results to be announced upon completion of the investigations.

In his latest live broadcast on his Facebook page, political activist Kamal Shiya (from Suwayda Governorate) made statements addressing the security and political developments in the governorate.

The key points he raised: • Sharp criticism of Salman Al-Hijri (son of Sheikh Hakmat Al-Hijri), accusing him of having complete control over the governorate's affairs.

• Fabricating breaches of the ceasefire: He accused the "National Guard" of fabricating gunfire violations aimed at besieging Suwayda from within, and driving up prices of fuels and basic goods.

• Israeli weapons: He pointed out that the weapons supplied by Israel to the "National Guard" in Suwayda ended up being sold in Daraa markets.

• Criticism of Sheikh Hakmat Al-Hijri: He attacked his delegation of managing numerous files to his son Salman, considering it a model of exploitation.

• Exploiting chaos: He confirmed that some influential figures exploited the state of security chaos to achieve massive financial gains reaching millions of dollars.

These statements came during Kamal Shiya's current visit to Israel, where he is connected by relations with members of the Israeli Knesset and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
