So I am not a DC fan AT ALL but I really like Harley Quinn and want to learn more about Poison Ivy but I'll post on her sub after...

I want to know more about her origins!!! I watched Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad. There is a backstory in Suicide Squad but I wanted to know if it was accurate AND if there was more to know about her!!

I plan on buying a comic book about her on Amazon (I found a cheap but big one, good start imo) and also another one and an Harley and Ivy one too!!

So far I’ve read harleen, Gotham city sirens and her 2000 run, and over really enjoyed them and her character. However I can’t seem to get into her new 52 version, I can’t explain it but she feels a bit different. will rebirth Harley Quinn be similar? What other recommendations is good for Harley Quinn

HBO Max for DC fans is like the Disney+ for Marvel fans, as I’ve been binging the hell out of all those DC animated movies from 2010-2016

Before anyone misunderstands my point, I know Harley Quinn debuted in BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES in 1992, and I know about Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, Arleen Sorkin, and the DAYS OF OUR LIVES performance connected to Harley’s creation. THE PEOPLE VS. LARRY FLYNT came out afterward, so I’m absolutely not claiming Courtney Love inspired the original Harley Quinn.

What I can’t stop thinking about is whether Love’s portrayal of Althea helped shape, consciously or otherwise, some of Harley’s later evolutions or visions.

Watching the movie again, I kept seeing elements that would eventually become strongly associated with modern Harley, from the bleached and wildly styled hair, smeared makeup, red-and-black clothing, punk and glam influences, manic humor, sexuality, volatility, vulnerability, and the destructive devotion to a charismatic man who is terrible for her.

Obviously, Courtney Love didn’t invent any of those traits individually, and some of the resemblance may simply come from both drawing upon the same punk, grunge, and “beautiful chaos” imagery of the 1990s. I also haven’t found anyone who has directly said, “We based this version of Harley on Althea.”

However, Courtney Love was reportedly considered for the role of Harley in the canceled BATMAN UNCHAINED, which makes me think Hollywood saw a connection between her image and the character.

So my question isn’t, “Did Courtney Love create or originate Harley Quinn?” She clearly didn’t. My question is whether Love, and particularly this performance, may have helped establish a visual and/or behavioral template that later Harley designers and performers drew from.

Does anyone else see it, or am I just completely making this up in my head?
