I know it's just a fan theory, but I think he'd be a great fit for an older Ted Kord. What do you think?

Why don't people want to explore new stories and new characters? I get that we don't have a proper Wonder Woman adaption since Lynda Carter (Gal Gadgot was trash imo), but Batman? Come on, there are endless movies and shows. It's okay if a DCU Batman gets released 2028-2029 or so. And we already had a Superman movie, so it's not like Gunn didn't do a big character.

DISCUSSION What do you think about Peacemaker Season 2 introducing the multiverse?

With James Gunn transitioning Peacemaker from the old DCEU into the new DCU, Season 2 is essentially dealing with a multiverse-adjacent shift.

How do you think this will play out? Do you think they’ll handle it poorly like recent MCU projects, or do it masterfully like Invincible?

DISCUSSION Why is Gunn constructing this universe on hard mode?

Why is Gunn constructing this universe on hard mode?

The upcoming DC slate is looking to be Clayface, Lanterns (on earth), Superman, Jimmy Olsen show, Deathstroke and Bane, Dynamic Duo and Creature Commandos. It's as if he's not aware DC owns the rights to all their characters.

And let's be honest the whole only good scripts thing is clearly a farce so you can't even place faith in that. It's just a weird way to start a universe and would only work if the material was actually top quality.

Do you think one may have been inspired by the other?

Maybe someone can come up with a comparison list, or perhaps provide some Fan-Made Amalgam art of the two.

What do y'all think about going with a fullblown "Gotham by Gaslight" outfit for "The Batman II" movie?

DISCUSSION Supergirl has made some of you forget who James Gunn is?

I keep seeing this weird notion going around that since Supergirl was not super well received, Man of Tomorrow is automatically bound to be bad. I think when it came to Supergirl, Gunn and Safran thought they had an amazing script on their hands, but they just didn't. And they thought Craig Gillepsie would be able to direct the movie well but he just didn't.

Which is why I think it's actually a good thing that Superman 2 is the only movie releasing in 2027, so Gunn and Safran can really overhaul their process of making sure that each DCU movie is consistently good even when Gunn is not directing. (Hopefully they create a Kevin Feige phases 1-3 sort of approach)

But still, I have absolutely no doubts that Man of Tomorrow will be a good movie. Have you guys forgotten who James Gunn is?

This man is one of the best CBM directors of all time. And I don't think misjudging the quality of a script will negate his ability to be one for Man of Tomorrow.

DISCUSSION Another Take on Gunn’s DCU

Upvotes

I have a bit of a nuanced take on the DCU and want to see what people think.

I don’t think Gunn is doing a good job, but not for the reasons other people do.

I like that he is going with an anti-MCU phase one approach. I thought creature commandos was really good and the introduction of lesser known characters has been really fun and surprising. Peacemaker, Frankenstein & The Bride, Mr. Terrific, have all been scene stealers and now the solo Clayface (what a bold idea for the 3rd movie) is looking to follow suit. That is all really awesome and exciting and makes that more excited to see how big and full of life this DCU world is by the time we saw Batman or bat family members in it.

But, after supergirl’s disastrous performance it seems like the DCU is not working. Some entries in it are working on an individual level, but the universe is not creating excitement and driving people to go see the next entry like marvel was able to create. That is a big problem. Eternals made more money than Supergirl with the live action debut of Lobo and Superman cameo.

I’m all for the DCU taking big swings, building up lesser known characters, filling in the world before getting to some of the bigger names, but do it in a way that is more connected and ready to draw viewers. Supergirl could’ve drawn kids, should’ve been aimed at drawing in kids. Those would’ve been kids buying tickets for the next decade of DC movies at least. Why do a MA creature commandos at this point and not a Krypto show alongside it for young kids. Have David corenswet and Millie Alcock record lines in the booth for a day to fill a season of cameos for Clifford the kryptonian dog. Kids need a jumping on point to the DC world that hasn’t really had a culture moment in children’s entertainment since the 90s and 2000s animation.

It seems like what is missing is not Batman or Wonder Woman, we will get them eventually and when we do they have to be really, really good or this whole thing collapses, but what’s missing now is just a synergy that brings the DCU together, and gives kids a reason to buy in to this new universe so that it can sell tickets and continue to build.

I really want to see Clayface and Man of Tomorrow and Batman and WW and the justice league eventually, but for that to happen, James Gunn needs to remember that families and kids need to be sold on this universe before us nerds can start to eat good.

But with both The Batman and Dynamic Duo set for 2028, I'm wondering whether anything else might have been delayed, or what people are expecting/wanting to see in 2028 (fingers crossed for wonder woman for me)

DISCUSSION Denis Villeneuve gave us 3 Epic Dune movies in 5 years. 6 years between Batman movies is insane

Yes I know no one has seen Dune part 3 yet but part 1 and 2 were both epic. How is it WB can put out these massive movies, 3 of them, in 5 years while we wait so long between freaking BATMAN movies? I know the cope is typically that you’d rather wait for a good movie than rush a bad move but 6 years is ridiculous, there’s no need for it!

DISCUSSION 30 Years Without a Robin...

With The Batman: Part II coming out in 2028, we are coming up on 30 years of live-action Batman films without a Robin. From Batman's comic debut, he only had one year before Robin hit the scene. The dynamic duo is a core element of the character. I understand that many of his most famous stories don't feature Robin (Year One, The Long Halloween, The Killing Joke), but they are the minority of Batman's history.

Since *Batman & Robin* we've had 4 solo Batman films and 4 Batman appearances in other live-action films, but no living, breathing actor portraying the Boy Wonder fighting in-costume by his side.

I don't even think it's all that hard to do Robin in a way that audiences will believe or at least be willing to suspend their disbelief for. I don't even think you have to age him up very much for them to buy it.

I'm just a little irritated that the people interested in writing the character on film have so little interest in arguably the most important character in the Batman mythos. Certainly more important than the Joker or Catwoman, or hell I'd argue even more important than Commissioner Gordon. I look at it like this:

Characters that are important in Batman:

  1. The Waynes (Thomas & Martha)

  2. Alfred

  3. Robin

  4. Everyone else

So tell me, what do you love about Robin? Do you have a favorite? Do you have a particular way you'd implement one or more of them in live-action? Do you think a Robin will appear in some way in the next Reeves film?

Just wanted to post something for people to reflect on and put into perspective just how long it's been. I hope everyone enjoys the opportunity to talk about Robin and his role or lack thereof in various media. Hope everyone is open-minded and productive in their discussions. Peace!

EDIT: 4 Live-action appearances in non-Batman films, not 3
