hi everyone. i’m on playlist duty for my granny’s funeral tomorrow.
honestly i have no idea what music is good for funerals. i just know my granny loved creedence clearwater revival.
she and my poppy were born and met on bell island (the one by conception bay) and moved to toronto together
not sure if this post is welcome here, but if it is, i would really appreciate any help i can get, and it feels right to ask the people who are a bit closer to the home of her history.

FFS we need more density...
Groves Road (VOCM News)
The City of St. John’s has voted against changing the zoning to allow higher-density housing on vacant land in Groves Road, a rural type neighbourhood off Mount Scio Road.
Some 200 people in the area signed a petition asking council not to go that route as it would change the character of their streets. All who voted, except Councillor Sandy Hickman, chose to keep the status quo.
Councillor Hickman saw infill housing as the preferred route.
“Otherwise we get urban sprawl, and increased services and taxation,” said Co. Hickman. “This will also, with the installation of hydrants, provide firefighting services to people in the lower area, something which I feel is pretty important.”

I went to 4th grade at Mount Pearl Intermediate in 2001. A local band came to visit and gave my class a casset after giving us a concert. All their songs were in french.
I can remember 2 of them:
1: this went like Napolean deja vu.
2: i can remember this one much more clearly. It was about whales and included whale calls and I think included the line "swim for shelter, la baleine."
I do not remember the bands name, if I ever knew it. any help would be appreciated, especially a link to their music.

My brother is living in St John's right now and currently on the streets. He has requested a hair cut and I'd like to arrange/pay for this for him. I live far away, and he has many struggles, socially and otherwise. Mentally, he's basically like a child, so he can attach easily and have difficulty understanding boundaries.
Can anyone recommend a way I can organize this? Are there any barbers who I guess specialize in this type of thing?
Please no rude comments. I'm pretty fragile right now.

Why are shitty drivers here so quick to become defensive/aggressive? Someone just cut me off at the Mundy Pond/Cashin intersection bad enough that the cars anti collision warnings went off as I was slamming on the breaks. Naturally I hit the horn. The guy is now a few cars back going straight and I’m in the left turn lane and he starts hanging out his window screaming and gesturing to come fight him. I’m not one for violence or aggression but there was something deep down that I’m glad I didn’t listen to because it wouldn’t have ended well for one of us.
What’s with these shitty entitled drivers who run stop signs and lights thinking that they’re completely in the right?

Currently live in PEI, working at a gas station, gf wants to move up to the island after next summer to take courses to become a pharmacist.
Is there any skills / college courses i should take to help get me a job to support the two of us in an apartment? Any particular jobs i should try for, and any advice you folks may have for someone soon moving up that way?
Edit: for those saying go west, i can’t, the woman has spoken and newfoundland is our next destination, at least for like 5 years

I was just taking in this evenings thunderstorm as it rolled across St. John’s harbour and I seen the fishing vessel L’Acadie take a direct strike while moored at pier 21. Right next to the fuel dock aa well.
Anyone manage to capture it on video, or know a livestream with playback? Would have been around 4:45pm.

Been planning a trip for a while. Although there hasn't actually been a ton of planning yet. But I've been intending to go, and the wildfire smoke in Ontario is pissing me off so I figure it's as good a time as any. I might just leave tomorrow. Just gonna stay in motels. What should I do when I get there? Any recs? I really want to go to Gros Morne but haven't thought of much else

Anyone know what’s happening with the ridiculous cell coverage on the TCH across the province in the last couple years? Every single time I leave the city to go on the TCH, the coverage drops. Even when it shows a few bars of LTE or 3G, the data connection never works. The cellular service is worst now than it was twenty years ago.
Perhaps given all the emphasis the province puts on tourism we should at least try to also have a reasonable telecommunications coverage across the only main highway we have. This is clearly a safety issue and one that the province is quite silent about. Who does one complain to? I’m sure Telus or Bell doesn’t really care given our minuscule population.
Will we ever see any improvements or will we all have to sign up for a star link satellite service in order to have mobile service outside the major centres.

What is your favorite product from the Newfoundland Chocolate Company, which ones to try and recommend to others and which ones to avoid? My favorite is the rum and butter bar and I'd personally recommend the chocolate fish and chips first for people new to their products but would avoid the hot chocolate flake mixes. Even some of the row bars can be hit or miss and obviously don't try the dark ones first until you have an acquired taste to 90% dark chocolate. It is stronger and doesn't taste the same as milk chocolate
On a side note, the Rum Runners and Rogues set appears to have been since discontinued. I'm not sure if they still sell the 90 piece Grand Trinity set too. If you are in CBN you can now get some of their products at Powells instead of driving into their shops in Town

Is anyone concerned about local businesses/hotels/air bnbs gauging everyone on pricing simply because of economic momentum? Or will people just keep paying?

Saw this young moose shortly after we had a bit of thunder and lightning. Was about 30 ft away I figured.

Seems to me the art groups are more concerned over funding and business partners than the artist, musicians, and writers.

RCMP in Clarenville are turning to the public for information that may help them find a missing 43-year-old man.
William Lockyer was last seen around midnight on Monday and is believed to have left his home sometime yesterday morning.
Nobody has heard from him since, leading to concerns about his well-being.
Lockyer is Caucasian, bald with facial hair and wears glasses. He is believed to be driving a blue 1996 Toyota Corolla with NL licence plate number AZM 706.
Anyone who spots the vehicle or has any information on the whereabouts of William Lockyer should contact Clarenville RCMP at 709-466-3211 as soon as possible.
(Edited to correct the car colour)
