BIG WIN 🥳 The clinical trial is working!!!
Hi all! Just wanted to share a spot of happiness in the world. My mother was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer (bone cancer) 13 years ago now, and after many treatments, it was looking like shes low on options.
She just started a new clinical trial and after only 2 doses, her cancer numbers are now unmeasureable!!! The side effects have been lower than most treatments (still significant) but Q.O.L. is staying good 🥰
In addition, I was accepted into a single PhD position that just happens to be an hour from home, so I can visit and support when she needs.
Im super happy and hope this brightens someone's day ❤️ Life sometimes sucks, but it also sometimes aligns in ways that dont suck - so keep going because you'll get there one day!
Dinner is powdered beignets 😋
Edit: Thank you all for the wonderful kind words! 😊

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! My aunt was diagnosed with MM about 8 years ago now and whew boy has it been a trial and a ride. She is also participating in a clinical trial and doing very well so far. She and my uncle are currently on a river cruise in the EU living their best time and planning for super early retirement in 2027.
It’s so refreshing and reassuring to hear another MM woman out in the world has made it 13 years and still out there crushing it. When we first got the diagnosis and prognosis we all felt devastated and my husband and I moved our wedding up - just in case- because she NEEDED to be there.
Editing to add GIANT CONGRATS too for YOUR PhD program!!!
Sending love. Sending inspiration. Sending healthy vibes

Thats so incredible!!! Amazing that theyre out and about!! MM is hard on the body, so Im glad your aunt is doing great and seems to have an amazing support system 🥰
My mom has so far been through 2 stem cell transplants and a BUTTLOAD of chemo, so this clinical trial (its a tri-specific) has been honestly amazing after everything. Fingers crossed that her participating in this trial is paving the way for the next generation of MM patients :)
It currently has a 100% success rate in phase 1 and 2 so we're hopeful that this is the new era of MM treatment!
Thank you for the kind words 😊

That is so exciting!!! I’m pretty sure my aunt has only done one stem cell treatment but the chemo rounds seem constant and unrelenting.
You’ve made my day with news of this clinical trial!
Thank YOU for your kind response

That is such amazing news! I watched my mother battle ovarian cancer for over a decade; it is such a painful thing to see a parent go through. Keeping my fingers crossed for both of you <3

I'm so happy for you and your Mom! This is why it's so important to support policies and politicians that support funding for research. My sister was given 3 weeks to live and was able to get into a clinical trial. She is now cancer free. She now spends her time campaigning to go government officials in the U.S. on the importance of clinical trials. Funding has been severely cut and that is detrimental to those who need these options.

My Mom has a rare type of blood cancer and is on her second dose of the drug trial! She's feeling really good and getting her energy back, so it seems to be working and her team is optimistic.

I lost my dad to multiple myeloma.

Im so sorry for your loss 💔 Originally when she was diagnosed, she was given 2 years, so we're very thankful she has made it this far, given how tough of a disease it is. She's certainly had other MM friends who weren't so lucky. I'm very hopeful and thankful for this treatment, and I hope that science will continue to progress so that no one loses loved ones to this disease in the future ❤️

Thanks for your comment. Yes, it’s a very difficult disease.
My dad was diagnosed at age 59, in 2011. He died at 70, in 2022. It’s been a rough four years without him.
When I (40F) recently saw a hematologist for my iron deficiency, I also got specific blood tests that showed that I don’t have any indicators of multiple myeloma (e.g, no M-spike observed).

I was hoping that there was a clinical trial which required you to eat beignets and it cured whatever ailed you and I wanted to know where to sign up. But even better that it's about your mom's health and she is doing well! Yay!!
ETA: And congrats on the new position!
Plus beignets!

Hi there! My dad was diagnosed with the same type if cancer. Had chemo and responded so well that despite his age the doctors carried on with autologous stemm cell therapy. He's cancer free now!!!
So glad to hear your mum is kicking cancer's ass too!
