📰News Cape Verde goalie talks about team's inspiring World Cup run
https://www.cbsnews.com/video/cape-verde-goalie-world-cup/🇨🇻 Cabo Verde's goalkeeper Vozinha talks about how his life changed after his rise to celebrity status after the World Cup:
"I grew up in Cabo Verde chasing a professional football dream. The odds against an African kid on a small island remain brutal. You fight for visas. You train without real facilities. Our coaches gave us their heart, but they lacked tactical training. Talented players in my neighborhood missed the path to Europe because big clubs ignored our region.
My professional career started late, at twenty-five. Peers reached their peak while I started my grind. I worked multiple jobs to survive. I kept going because the game consumed me.
The tournament changed my life. The world used to ask where Cabo Verde was on a map. They know us now. That shift is the best thing to happen to our country. Before the cup, I lived an anonymous life. I cooked meals in the street and ate outside my front door. Now, people lose their minds when I walk down the sidewalk. The change feels chaotic. I miss the quiet, simple connection, but seeing our flag gain global respect makes the noise worth it.
I am forty now, and a free agent. People whisper about Miami and Messi. I want to play football for one or two more years. My body feels strong. My passion remains heavy. I need a team that wants my skill. I refuse to join a club as a marketing gimmick.
And for the fans asking: I am single."

Arg-Cabo was probably one of the most entertaining matches of this entire cup.

It literally felt like a finals to me. All matches after that ranged from "kinda interesting" to "more effective sleeping pills". I wish the refs were more consistent that match and in the WC as a whole though. Results would've been much more interesting instead of frustrating.

Like the only team that was bat shit crazy in a positive way to engage against goliath like there was no tomorrow! The way they even played attacking was mental, like I was screaming to kick the ball away and they calmly played it around in their own 16... hats of to this goalie saving them on numerous occasions. Feel like a lot of people go through some sort of grinding to reach professional football, and 99% have to drop to chase other dreams. He stick to it knowing that there were no better alternatives, that's hard and brave at same time. I mean we, in Europe (NL), can then focus on trying to achieve in several career paths with some education and have a good life. In Cabo Verde there is nothing really to fall back on to.

Gail is such a terrible interviewer. Imagine asking someone a question, then interrupting them in an attempt to finish their sentence for them.
Then asking them at the end if theyre single. If it was a guy asking a girl that in an interview it likely wouldn't end with the same laughs
I honestly have no idea why she's still relevant

A team which faced both eventual finalists and drew them in normal time.

And the only one to tie Spain, plus not lose a single game in 90 minutes.

To be fair, I think Spain also hasn’t lost a game in 90 minutes. Good company to be in!

His performance against Spain is what made me spontaneously buy tickets and drive 4+ hours to see the Cabo Verde v Saudi Arabia match. No regrets
