💬Discussion With just two games to go, what's been your favourite game of the tournament so far?
Undoubtedly England vs Mexico for me.

Easily Cabo Verde vs Argentina

u/jyeatbvg Canada 20h ago
This.
England vs. Mexico and Portugal vs. Croatia were also top-tier for me.

u/cruxclaire 17h ago
This feels the closest to an objectively correct answer. Competitive start to finish, even in ET, with generally clean play, amazing goalkeeping by Vorzinha, that Cabral goal, and a huge upset on the table

u/UnderstandingFun7493 20h ago
That Argentina Vs Cape Verde match was incredible

The Sidny Lopes Cabral goal in extra time was the biggest wtf, hands-on-my-head moment this tournament by far

Cabo Verde v Argentina might be one of the greatest World Cup games ever. especially given the contrast in ranking
15
u/Yang_KaiKai 19h ago
Cabo Verde single handedly confused the entire world about this world cup. Arguably the toughest match for both Spain and Argentina this world cup were their respective matches against Cabo Verde. Despite entering the tournament as world rank 1 and 2, Spain and then Argentina would drop and be labelled as underperformers after their matches against Cabo Verde with most rankings, betting odds, and experts projecting a France vs England final.

England vs Mexico, kind of sad there weren't more matches like that.

u/Key-Preparation-109 Mexico 12h ago
I know it might seem meaningless, but after years of disappointment, Mexico's loss this time wasn't that bad. It is really nice to read how many people enjoyed our final match. It is wonderful to know that so many people though it was a good match c':
That being said, no game has topped Cape Verde Vs Argentina. Vozinha was pure magic, and that goal from Lopes Cabral was sublime. Goal of the tournament.
And (clearly) biased, but Mexico vs England was a close second. Then, I'd say Morocco's victory again the Netherlands.

Then, for personal reasons, I also really enjoyed watching the Netherlands play and Scotland’s first match; seeing McGinn score was lovely for those of us who appreciate him.

As someone who’s not super into soccer football, I must say that England v. Mexico was one of the most thrilling sports matches I’ve seen in a while. This World Cup has certainly piqued my interest in the sport.

I couldn't make myself watch England vs Mexico one because I had a feeling Mexico was going to lose. I was too nervous to watch.
but my favorite ones are
France vs Sweden. (French were playing like Brazil team in 2002)
Cape Verde vs Argentina (exciting edge of your seat game)
Norway vs Brazil (apart from being exciting, it was funny. the interaction between Neymar and the keeper from Norway... haha couldn't stop laughing)

Cabo Verde vs Argentina / Cabo Verde vs Spain
Basically, I liked all Cabo Verde games but these two matches stand out. I believe Cabo Verde is one of the best, hard working and spirited teams around so I am hoping to see them play again in the next WC. It's a major plus that they can play their games without getting too dirty like Argentina - its just all honest and good football.

As a US fan, July 1 had three great games, England vs DR Congo, Belgium vs Senegal, and then US vs Bosnia. I hated seeing both African teams go out but there was so much drama, and then US game was great as they advanced and hung on with 10 men. What a day!
3
u/Artistic-Tear3222 13h ago
I enjoyed all those. I actually can’t wait to see DR Congo back in the World Cup in 4 years, they had such a fantastic goalie I’m excited to see how they improve each tournament. I’m impressed by the US this tournament too 🏴🍻

Personal bias favourite? - Haiti v Scotland. Our first World Cup win in 36 years.
In terms of actual match quality? Been quite a few. Argentina v Cape Verde was probably the best. Iran v New Zealand was a "nobody was expecting it" after dark banger, as was Uzbekistan v Colombia.
Portugal v Croatia, Austria v Algeria, England v Mexico, Argentina v Egypt and Paraguay v Germany also very memorable.
Been a fantastic tournament.

Everyone saying a lot of great ones.
My third pick for amusement reason was South Africa vs Mexico...the first match that started everything.
The first match that started with slaps and kicks....South Africa forgetting it was just the first match and not the finals XD basically claiming this year would be drama...and it didn't disappoint.
