📰News FIFA has banned England defender Jarell Quansah for two matches after his red card against Mexico

He definitely deserved a red and a one match ban - two seems harsh though?
The thing is after what happened with the Balogun decision, everything like this is going to be criticised no matter what.

Yep, this wouldn't have gotten much attention without the absurd Balogun decision. I think Quansah's tackle was more unlucky than anything else, but a two-match ban for studs going that high would ordinarily be understandable (even if not really that reasonable given the actual play). But in the context of Balogun's being undone, it's hard to see it as fair, and frankly as not deliberately corrupt.

A two game suspension at the WC is absolutely mad.
Red card and one game? Okay sure.
TWO?!?! Give me a break. Completely disproportionate.

But just a one game suspension would only benefit Norway and couldn’t benefit Argentina, because he’d be back by then (assuming England and Argentina win).

So like, what's the precedence to extend this? Has he already gotten red carded for the same infraction this competition and they want to make a heavier punishment?
Like, the slide tackle was a red card. One game ban. But two? Poor England, what did you do to piss off FIFA?

Genuine question, why don't the various countries' football administrations just set up a new leadership system that is neutral and doesn't take bribes? Is it that difficult?

FIFA don’t like the British because the British were the ones uncovering their last presidents scandalous behavior.
They like to be left in peace to carry out thier dodgey dealings.
This is why the UK has not been allowed to host a World Cup since 1966 despite having some of the best infrastructure and facilities for it in the world

England is the home of football, FIFA hates this, they believe they are the home of football. Its about time we got rid of a single fifa president, and we have a former player or manager from each continent represent fifa and its direction decided by an election in each continent’s FA’s. Im not saying this would remove corruption but it certainly would reduce the power a single person can hold to influence the game.

I see FIFA are doing the double it and give it to the next person when it comes to match suspensions
85
u/VisibleOtter 7d ago
A straight red card is usually followed by a one match ban, unless the card was issued for violent conduct, in which case the ban is for three matches.
Where the fuck does two matches come into it? FIFA just making the rules up as they go along, as usual.

THIS IS HOW YOU DEAL WITH THINGS!
(Source, BBC news)
Tuchel's assistant coach Anthony Barry said the Quansah news was "disappointing".
"Disappointing, not with the decision, just the fact that we lose a good player," he added.
"He was excellent in training, and of course we have some injuries in that position, so it looked like a space had opened up for Jarell.
"But the decision's been made, we won't waste any more energy on it. Overall for us, we lose a good player for two games, but it's just another hurdle that we have to overcome."
Edit: Now you've pissed off the whole team, all of the English... And I have no doubt some of the Norwegians as well.
Guess we're all just going to have to do a Belgium throughout the rest of this tournament..

This is an excessive punishment. FIFA really has it out for England. They are the most carded team per foul this tournament. And I’ve seen 90% of the matches- they aren’t playing any more aggressively than anyone else. Argentina has the fewest cards per foul. It just can’t be a coincidence.

u/Unusual-Coat383 7d ago
We also get harsher fans penalties from both UEFA and FIFA and for whatever reason we’re banned from ever hosting a World Cup again.

Famously the reason we'll never be able to host a world cup despite being setup perfectly for it is because we've always refused to do the brown envelope that gets you picked.

This the dude that went into for the tackle, bounced off the ball and (becuase of that) ended up hitting high? Jesus, that's harsh. I don't know who looks at that and decides it warrants even more punishment.
Edit: I'm not saying it wasn't an ugly challenge -- just pointing out he hits much lower or maybe doesn't even contact the player if he doesn't bounce off the ball -- pretty unlucky.

Now this is just ridiculous. Firstly, one game ban in a World Cup is plenty punishment, specially this far in elimination stage. Coming just a week after Balogun´s suspension was overturned.
Secondly, IF both Arg and Eng go through, if Argentina wins there will be whole discussions about England´s best player and superstar Quansah missing the game because some random decision. Simply uncalled for.

Why 2?
This was just a bog standard unlucky tackle where he went in way too hard, stud first and bounced on top of the ball to hit high up the leg.
Should have been 1, and going by the new rules FIFA made up on the spot, this should have also been a suspended suspension.
