Sports can be full of good lessons. Here's 2 of them.
23
u/MathematicianOk4025 May 28 '26
Right. Calling pushing someone’s face into the ground after winning a ‘celebration’ is nuts.
Hopefully at least one lesson out of the two was learned.

Red boy was disrespectful as shit. He deserves a future where he's pointed at and yelled at wherever he goes, like: "ha, there goes the red who slams heads into the ground"

u/Great_Hambino2022 May 28 '26
Bet he’ll never celebrate like that again

Unless the kid doesn't even know what he did wrong and then blames the other kid for cheap shotting him labeling him as a, "poor sport" in rebellion for losing.

Nah, every wrestler I’ve ever known knows that running your opponents ear into the mat is a cheap ass move.

He knows exactly what he did and why he suffered the consequences that he did.
7
u/foxtrot7azv May 28 '26
To be fair, he probably doesn't have any memory of the seconds leading up to getting KO'd.
Good thing it's preserved on the internet for him to watch whenever he needs to remember.

How this will play out for the kid that bullied and got punched will probably depend a lot on his parents. If they coddle him and put all the blame on the other kid, he'll likely continue to be a bully. If they make him apologize and accept he instigated the situation, he has a chance to learn from it. (Other kid should obviously apologize too)
Not to say that nice people can't raise asshole kids or great people can't be raised in disfunctional situations, because I know exceptions on both sides. People are complex. But I reckon the single biggest factor here is how the kids parents treat it.
Kid that knocked him out was likely in fight or flight mode, so it's a different situation. He could be a total dick too for all we know, but everyone has a self defense reflex that's basically hard coded. Hard to know without knowing more about him and the situation if he's a violent kid or was just full fight or flight at that point.
Hopefully they just both apologized and moved on and didn't do it again.

Turning his back after pushing his opponent’s face into the mat shows this kid’s never been checked in his life.

To paraphrase a quote by Mike Tyson:
"Social media has made folks too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the mouth."
I hope more of these disrespectful little broccoli heads get taught such lessons.

Mike Tyson is mentally unstable. That being said, this is one of the most beautifully succinct and accurate things that has ever been said about modern society.
18
u/GroundbreakingFox815 May 28 '26
It comes from his original quote before the internet was what it is. 'Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth', which i think is more encompassing.
7
u/Mindrest May 28 '26
His "original" quote is surprisingly close to the Joe Louis quote Everyone has a plan until they've been hit
10
u/FrequencyHigher May 28 '26
Which is also similar to the quote from Prussian Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke the Elder - “No [battle] plan survives contact with the enemy.”

The thing was he appeared to put all his weight on the guy’s head when he got up too. It wasn’t just a push - like I’m imagining a 160lb dude pushing himself off the ground with much of that force on my face and I’d bet that really hurt and couldn’t be argued it was assault / battery in and of itself.
I don’t think the sucker punch in the face was warranted (even if deserved) but certainly something was. You should be able to stand up for yourself and defend yourself / retaliate in a proportional manner if you are attacked.
35
u/ss4johnny May 28 '26
I don’t think it’s fair to call it a sucker punch. He was attacked first and the guy turned his back.

You don't poke a bear then call it a sucker-punch when they maul you (while you walk away like you didn't do anything wrong). That wasn't a "sucker-punch", but a sucker definitely got punched. You, are an idiot and likely a bully yourself to think the guy SHOULDN'T have punched the bully.
3
u/dudemanjack May 28 '26
It was definitely an out of proportion response. He should have just shoved him if he wanted to get physical.
Also, shoving someone's face into the mat like that and turning your back to him is certainly not smart.

22
u/HowWeLikeToRoll May 28 '26
Yea, I wrestled and my son wrestles... That's a 100% dick move. I don't know if a sucker punch like that is totally deserved but I'm also not saying that the kid didn't have it coming.

u/cizwokz May 28 '26
It’s only a sucker punch because his bitch ass turned around after being a twat

The match was over. Dude got assaulted in a noncombat situation.
Wrestlers who can't put it back in the box once the match ends are scumbags who shouldn't be competing. The dirtiest, filthiest, most selfish competitors in the big circuits in wrestling and MMA know to put it back in the box once the match ends. If you don't, you run out of chances to be in the ring pretty fast.
I don't necessarily condone the punch, but I fully, absolutely, 100% understand why it happened, and it happened because Headshover had no self control and didn't put his attitude back in the box after the match like you NEED to in order to be part of this scene.
Headshover doesn't deserve to compete.
Sucker puncher also probably doesn't deserve to compete, but he was provoked so I can see some reasons not to be quick to judge Sucker Puncher.
Headshover needs out of the sport completely, and he needs to be out yesterday. Ban that man!

Call it for what it is. Team deductions are a thing.

Crazy that people think that immediately walking away after shoving someone's face into the mat means that the guy who's face you shoved into the mat is no longer allowed to fight back.

Ref dropped the ball here. Both should have been DQ for their actions as well. The face smash and the cheap shot . Ref should be let go as well for not maintaining control or calling the face smash
3
u/faceless_coloradian May 28 '26
DQ and ban both. They both have problems restraining themselves and don't belong in the sport
3
3
u/cbjunior May 29 '26
At first glance, people take note of the losing opponent’s shot from behind. But then you look again and see the winner pushing his opponent’s head into the floor at the end of the match. Poor reffing and sportsmanship all around but it was the “winner” that caused the problem.

u/thadeusbone7 May 29 '26

Wrestling community is usually overwhelmingly trash. Anger management issues, little self control, eating disorders, small man energy.
Not surprised by these high schooler’s behavior. They’re peaking in life right now.
8
u/Time_Rip_9808 May 28 '26
Hard disagree. Wrestling was full of great people, in my experience. Football was the toxic team at my school The wrestlers became like family and stood up for some of the smaller guys who were getting bullied. I wasn't small but I was bullied when I was younger so seeing that had me sold pretty fast.
3
u/SacredHippoXIV May 28 '26

Maybe it's just my area, but my son's HS wrestling division has a lot of really great kids. They are hardcore and savage, but 90% of them have great sportsmanship. Last year at county, my son lost in the 4th round, to the guy who would end up winning first. The kid was super humble after the match, ranting and raving about how tough of an opponent my son was and how he couldn't believe he won, he won by points 13 - 9 iirc. We ended up following him and rooting for him (no one else from my son's school was still in for his weight class) it's crazy how many wrestling friends he's made from schools all over the state. There are dicks for sure, but most of the kids I've met have been stand up dudes.
Of course this is my anecdotal experience, I do believe that wrestling attracts a certain personality type. We're just lucky to have had really good experiences the last few years. I do remember a shit ton of assholes from my wrestling days, but I think toxic masculinity was a lot more prevalent back then.
3
u/PsychotropicTraveler May 28 '26
Checks out. Almost all of the sports jock type guys in my old high school were dickheads to us skaters and outcasts. But most of the wrestlers were always super cool to us and didn't care about the cliquey bullshit. Good lads in my experience, for the most part.
3
u/HowWeLikeToRoll May 28 '26
I think it's because even though you're on a team, you win and lose your matches on your own. That means that if you lose, it's on you, no one to blame but yourself. So self accountability is relatively high in the sport, you can't coast your way to wins relying on stronger teammates. I think it builds stronger character. That's just my observation though

Kid in the orange had no business smashing his opponent’s face into the mat. To casually turn your back too?? That’s insanely dumb on top of things and he deserved to checked for it. Knocked out? Nah, but don’t fuck around to the point where the punch itself is warranted.
For blue, was the punch acceptable? No. Was it warranted? ABSOLUTELY. In this case, take whatever punishment comes from it and move on in the best fashion possible.

Kids aside, the ref really dropped the ball.
Should have jumped in the second the kid slammed the other kid’s head. He actively let it slide and things instantly spiraled. It’s his job to keep control.
