I'm nearly 100% sure JK Rowling originally intended her to be black because that's just how she names characters but then later retconned her to white when she decided to make her a love interest of Ron

But the BLACKS (Sirius, Draco, Bellatrix) are all white...

Just a tricky bit of trickeration to throw you off the scent! And you fell for it, you innocent puppy

Right, you see Sirius was one of the good blacks

So she was racist at first, then became double racist

Her race is never mentioned in the books.

JK Rowling has become an asshole, but also, people attacking the books without ever reading them is annoying af. It proves you're just bandwagoning without any further critical thinking, and that impulse is why the world currently sucks.

One guy was notable black in the support cast. ONE. His name was Shacklebolt.

One Asian character and her name is Cho Chang.

Goblins. If you don't understand she meant them to be based on a Nazi's version of a Jewish person, you are too innocent for this world

You're literally doing the thing. Acting like Dean Thomas isn't in the books from the start.

Not to mention, if we're talking minorities,

 Angelina Johnson.

Parvati and Padma Patil

Lee Jordan (him not being in the movies is a travesty. Those commentaries were hilarious)

He was in the first one. But I thought he was a girl as a kid lol.

Oh yeah! But they cut McGonagall losing her shit everytime Lee Jordan gets a little too excited. 🤣

Well fuck I did do the thing. In my defense, I've got an old UK copy of Philosopher's Stons and they didn't specify him as black until the US edition (had to Google when it said he was black and stumbled on that interesting info)

Props for owning up to it instead of doubling down. Have a good day.

Not going to beat up on you too much because of your subsequent comment but

  • Black characters: Kingsley Shacklebolt, Dean Thomas, Lee Jordan, Angelina Johnson, Blaise Zabini
  • Asian Characters: Cho Chang, Parvati and Padma Patil, Sue Li

None of those seem particularly egregious. The worst could be Kingsley, but his name makes since if you realize he's the best wizard cop in the setting.

There's also quite quite a few characters with no description of race, with some of them portrayed by people of color in the films.

I thought he was named Shacklebolt because he was a cop, but yeah, those others are fair points.

Don't forget only polish character that happens to be named Kowalski, sell pączki donuts and, of course, is a sidekick muggle

/uj Dude I have read every single one of these books multiple times and listened to the audio books of each one multiple times (Jim Dale is the GOAT) AND listened to every single episode of the Ringer's Binge Mode Harry Potter series.

In the words of Ron Swanson, I know more than you

You didn't like Stephen Fry's Tonks?
