Should try and kidnap the director to create the same quality of cinematic comedic masterpieces, just like the 70's baby!

I do kind of find it funny how Kim from the 1970s invested heavily on north korean movie and music industry in hope of making korean culture famous all over the world only for the south koreans to suceede in his dreams.

u/Lavender_Critique 1d ago
Well he did try to get the South Koreans to fulfil his dreams too. The ones they made weren't great either.

u/LeftComposer9523 17h ago
yeah mr bean is universally funny, cant even imagine what that mustve been like for them
1
u/LocalSilly6075 7h ago
yeah the south korean films they made were rough too. it's wild that mr bean actually landed

u/vhanw342 1d ago
Impossible to believe they didn’t succeed with Pulgasari

The film was kino unironically. My favorite moment is when the monster helps to overthrow the oppressive regime than becomes the new oppressive regime.
What did the kim dynasty mean by this?
14
u/No-Exercise-6031 23h ago
Kim is the type of guy to read dozens of fables and morality tales and take the wrong lessons from them
2
u/SillyGirlEver 22h ago
The monster is supposed to represent capitalism I think, progressive in relation to feudalism but then further oppresses the working people (when viewed from a Juche lens)
2
u/Reasonable_Fold6492 22h ago
Eh it could also be china and ussr. Kim in later years of his life hated USSR and China considering them to be a threat to his power.
In his memoir he talks about how ussr ethnically cleansed koreans living in far east in 1937. He also talks about how communist china were incompetant during there effort to kill of the far right koreans and it would result in them witch hunting and killing leftist koreans.
Honestley had kim won the korean war its more likely the entire country would have been like albania where it was both anti ussr and anti china while trying to reclaim southern manchruia as korean land.
Also the if the south won the new established capitalist korea would have hated the US much more and developed nukes as they also saw japanese island like tashmia as korean.

u/AvocadoBusiness4135 22h ago
wait was Pulgasari actually good or just a propaganda flick
7
u/vhanw342 22h ago
neither of them, but at least it was a mostly earnest attempt at having a prominent film industry in North Korea. They even bothered to kidnap an actress

Only difficult part would be to decide if you need to honey pot or honey dick the director.

This made me curious if the Bean director was still alive but sadly he died in 2013

Playtime Time is the only movie I've watched since 2009. Nothing else compares.

I liked Carson Clays screenplay, but Carson Clay cinematography could have been better. A decent flick by Carson Clay productions.

Slapstick comedey transcends all culture and barriers.
There is a reason why tom and jerry is probally the most loved looney toon characters in the world.

I wonder if its different for British people because a lot of the stuff I thought was created to be absurd for the show were just normal British things. Like the coin operated electricity

Government told them it was a comedy.
They are watching Platoon.

well once they're done fiddling and diddling about, let them know the Mr. Bean look-a-likes are stationed and ready for activation.

u/PiccoloAwkward465 19h ago
Tell'em to quit fingerpoppin' little kids, it's game time
1
u/humid_pajamas 18h ago
well since we went there, are any specific members of the CIA implicated in the files that we know of?
I stopped keeping up because it's too frustrating that no one is being held accountable for what is obviously one of the worst series of crimes committed in the 21st century.

Next, the Cia will screen a special presentation of Pee Wee’s big adventure in order to instill democratic values.

"Mr Bean at the Pyongyang International Film Festival" will stand as Rowan Atkinsons most controversial work in his Mr Bean series.

Zero chance this is North Korea

u/Appropriate-Ice-5722 23h ago
Wdym? It’s a very famous picture from the 2006 Pyongyang Film Festival.
0
u/ChevToTheLev 23h ago
Is it really famous? The only sources of this image are social media posts. Do you have another source or did you just say that?
3
u/Turakamu Neil breens #1 fan 23h ago
I found this. It is just a person saying it's true but Nick Bonner hangs out in North Korea all the time.
And they also did just say that.

u/ChevToTheLev 23h ago
Another Reddit page that links to instagram isn’t a source
