I had a 180 lbs long haired Saint Bernard once. I could brush his coat to shed his fur, and I'd be able to fill two large shopping bags just with fur - and then my wife would still question whether or not his coat had been done at all.
I love animals but I can’t imagine owning a huge dog and keeping it inside given all the fur. I struggle with my small dog and cat because of all the fur. It’s really a lot.
For Saint Bernards it's mostly seasonal. Mine slept outside on the snow most winter, as his winter coat was so thick that he'd overheat if he didn't.
In the late winter when the snow started to melt, he'd eventually end up curling up on the last spot of snow - usually where we'd piled up the snow or had a snowman.
Then in spring he'd dump that big coat over a couple weeks in giant wool-like fluffy lumps.

This is near nothing, depending on the breed.
