What are the things hanging down from its body?

Those are its tentacles. They use them to help move around and ward off predators.

Edit: Why are you downvoting me? That’s what they are%20and%201%C2%A0cm%20(0.39%C2%A0in)%20long.%5B39%5D) lol.

I genuinely can’t believe they’re actually called tentacles, that’s somehow hilarious 😀 TENTACLES BELONG IN THE SEA!

Cheers for passing on knowledge!

They’re soft sensory filaments. Basically little feelers, not stingers.

Those are sensory filaments that help the caterpillar feel its surroundings. They look dramatic, but they’re completely harmless.

You should hear a snail eat, found one a few months ago that I almost stepped on so I helped the fella onto a leaf and boy was he happy, began munching within seconds and at night they're not quiet eaters

This is remarkably soothing to watch.

Now look up what happens to them during the metamorphosis stage. I had no idea that they dissolve into almost a complete soup. I thought they just transformed from a caterpillar body into a butterfly body

I did know that. It’s wild.

I really thought it was just because of how the caterpillar is moving

Having proper eating etiquette at a young age is a requirement for Royals.

It ain't just chomping willy-nilly. Could caterpillars have OCD too? :)

When the muchies hit. Am I the only one that hears a chomping sound in my mind?

Can caterpillars get gas from eating so quickly? (Yes, my brain works in strange ways!)
