The so called anti-racism crowd just look at any video of Argentinians fans or players just existing and immediately screaming insults. They literally cannot see the problem in that behavior. Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham assaulted a player after the match and got justified because heâs some honorable European man instead of the racist horrible Argentinian.

Surely, Argentina is racist. A coutry that has never had segregation, gives free, good, universal healthcare and education on all levels to literally everyone who wants it and by all means is a considerably progressive country.
Out of the Top 4 of the WC, three are european colonizers and for some reason people pick the only latino country to call it racist. Which I find quite funny when you consider the others have people alive whom have seen human zoos, or whose watermark is on five different flags.
I would go as far as to say there's not a single chance Argentina is more racist than most of the countries the people calling them racist are from are.

I mean, most people know nothing of things like the SelkÊŒnam genocide so it's difficult for them to compare Argentina to France, England, or Spain when their atrocities are much more well known. All the majority of people who say Argentina is racist understand is the racist songs and behaviour from some of their fans and players, whereas they know of plenty of historical events to use for European colonisers

Same! Iâm married to an Argentine and have never witnessed racism from them. They are so nice and welcoming. I have surprisingly never witnessed true hatred based racism though until Iâve seen how some other people will treat my inlaws like garbage for absolutely no reason. Simply ordering food at a restaurant and the waitress is being extremely rude to them. Talking crap on them to the other workers while pointing at our table, then coming back and being rude to us again and immediately being nice to the table next to us. It was disgusting. I was shocked.

4
u/Ramdak 16h ago
I see that as a thing that's coming from last world cup, where the "racism" train erupted because the guys (players) chanted what's considered "racist" and discriminatory.
The song went two particular sentences, one saying that Mbape's girlfrend was transvestite, the other that all the France's team was from Africa.
This generated a trend in social media, mostly fueled by what can be considered Ronaldo's fans and those that couldn't stand Argentina winning the wc.
Add to that the butthurt community that called Argentina cheaters and that the wc was rigged, clearly just coming from almost everyone that didn't actually seen the matches or don't understand football. So all that has been cooking and exploded in this WC, this time there's something else, not just a viral thing, it seems orchestrated somehow.
Also few people understand the way argentina football fans are and how offensive chants are in general (because that's how they are locally). Thus tagging EVERY argentina as a racist bigot, when in reality it's not the case.
Racists slurs and racism is everywhere, that can't be denied, in every single place on earth there will be discrimination and hatred, fortunately that's a minor thing, but since everyone makes its worldview based on social media, that's how stuff is.

Yeah, i read a lot of bullshit. Like the racism thing. Of all the problems Argentina has (and there are a LOT), racism is definetly not one of them. There has been instances of racism of course but it is nothing compared to european countries or the US.
20
u/NewPay4539 18h ago
I used to talk to a girl from argentina in discord. And I live in south-east asia. She was really chill and nice. So honestly I don't really believe in Argentine being racists as a whole. Maybe there are a few...but let's be honest, they are everywhere around the world xd.

u/Most_Caterpillar_242 18h ago
I am an italian that has been living in argentina for the last 8 years. Never saw any instance of racism, quite the oppisite in fact. I have traveled enough to know that racism is everywhere, but Argentina is nowhere close to countries like italy, uk, spain, USA and so on. There is a lot of classism in Argentina tho.

I think it comes down to people here not really understanding the weight of racist remarks. We are a very casual folk and say it how we see it, e.g. call a short mate 'enano', a fat one 'gordo', a ginger 'colorado'... you get the idea. This can already be grating for people that don't know how it is over here, but its amplified when it comes to race. Because we are also pretty comfortable with the n word even if its not out of malice; there's some cases where we use it with people that are not actually black. There were also instances of people doing racism gestures and remarks (which I condone). This all comes from ignorance and not having a history of racial tension in the last 100 years. So when a citizen from a country that has been fighting against racism for years hear how casual we are with it they naturally assume a lot of things.
That said that's where our racism ends, the country historically welcomes all races, we never had segregation laws, we don't have issues with actual racial violence. Overall we still have ways to go as a nation but it's not as bad as social media thinks.
6
u/Teque9 15h ago
I mean, there was a mexican fan who did a facial gesture towards a korean girl right? He lost his job, was forced to apologize etc etc. Nobody is going around saying "I hate mexico" because of that, but they enthusiastically say all argentinians are racist because of a few bad fans.

Messi's presence overweighs everything.
Like, him just being out there draws 3 players to him, he doesnt even have to do anything.
At that point its just an unfair game. Its unfair if you have god playing for your team.

- Reversing Egypt's goal and denying penalty against their player after
- Turning red card against Arg player into
- Not calling clear fouls early in England match
- Denying Cabo Verde final attacking play after their player took a hit
And probably many more. Each of these pretty much flipped the momentum of the match. They shouldn't have made it to the finals. Barely beating an underdog like Cabo Verde - that too thanks to a bad call- is proof of that.

I wouldn't say first 84, Argentina was comletely destroying Eng after their first goal(they had like 88% possession). At that point it was kinda obvious they were gonna win. All they needed was 1 successful goal. They scored 2 instead, so they won before extra time.
