Discussion What people don't realize in tech jobs at companies in Lebanon
Without mentioning company names, many tech people think that when they move to a company offering a salary above 2000 USD they will enjoy life... After a while it turns out to be an illusion. You work at the company from 9 to 5 then you go back home to finish the tasks from 6 to 12 even sometimes your boss is so blunt that he will say stay here we have fast internet, we will give you a free meal lol.
PS: I am not talking about all companies of course but it's a general feeling based on observations :)

Discussion Thought Experiment: Lebanon on Universal Basic Income. If everyone got $800 a month, what would the country be like?
HUMOR ME!
I've been thinking about this a lot.
What do you think Lebanon would be like if we had Universal Basic Income (a government program where every citizen receives a regular, set amount of money regardless of their employment status or wealth.)
What would it look like?
How would things change?
IGNORE THE TECHNICALITIES OF A SHITTY GOVERNMENT!!! I mean in general.

Vent / Rant My plan in the next year because I'm tired of living in the West
I've been living in the US about 10 years. I've visited a lot over the years, and it tears me apart everytime I have to leave again. My entire family (including parents and siblings) live in lebanon or at least close enough to visit regularly.
I just started a new job and I plan to save 30,000 or more in a year so I can go back to lebanon. I'm not expecting to stay in lebanon forever, but i at least want to spend more than a month or two. Maybe 6 months to a year.
I also want to explore what my field looks like in lebanon. Other parts of my plan include looking into work around the region in other Arab countries. Fuck it, maybe even Europe because at least it's not a 20+ hour trip to visit.
I just can't be here anymore. I've done a lot of great things in the US, but I'm done.

Discussion People who lost money in the banking crisis deserve discounts on utility bills
People who lost a large part of their savings in the Lebanese banking crisis should get temporary discounts on electricity, water, and municipality bills. The state failed to protect their money, so asking them to pay full public bills without any relief doesn't feel fair. Even a 3–4 year discount would help. What do you think?

Help / Question How to find senior developer job in Lebanon i used to try Linkedin but I am not getting any new posts
Help / Question Circular 158
Has anyone reached the $50,000 maximum under Circular 158 at the end of June?
If so, what happened in July? Did your bank continue paying the monthly $800 fresh cash and $200 POS, or did the payments stop completely?
Also, has anyone heard of any updates from (BDL) or the banks regarding a new circular or an increase to the limits under Circulars 158 or 166, or is everything still up in the air?

Discussion Does anyone here have any photos or videos of "Showbiz Pizza Place"?
Hello, I am a big fan of Showbiz Pizza Place. I have recently found out that there was one location open in Lebanon for a few decades. All I can find online is one photo of the exterior, and I am very interested in finding out more about this restaurant. Attached is the photo of its exterior if it helps.

News Articles Iraqi Source to MBN: Arms Seized in Syria Were Bound for Hezbollah
An Iraqi security source told MBN that weapons seized by Syrian authorities near the Iraqi border had been hidden in a modified oil tanker equipped with a concealed compartment for transport to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
MBN could not independently verify the identity of the group alleged to have sent the shipment, nor the claim that drones were used to protect it.
However, the source’s account broadly aligns with an announcement by Syria’s Interior Ministry that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle a large cache of weapons across the Iraqi-Syrian border. The ministry said that the shipment was destined for Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The issue carries particular significance for Hezbollah, which lost a key overland supply route linking Iran to Lebanon through Iraq and Syria after the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
If confirmed that the arms were meant for Hezbollah, the seized shipment could indicate that efforts to reestablish that corridor have continued and that weapons smuggling has increasingly relied on more sophisticated concealment methods and commercial transportation networks between Iraq and Syria.
Help / Question How to travel to event places outside Beirut?
I have been to Lebanon multiple times and usually travel with my local friends to events but most of them to have moved out of the country.
So I'm looking at this two days festival which is 50km outside Beirut in the mountains. What would you do if you were me?
Renting a car for a single event seems overkill.
Getting there by a taxi/Uber will probably work but how do I find someone to bring me back?

لا...ولا طويل، هي حلوة وطويلة...."

Discussion How does your average Lebanese survive?
War aside, your country is more like a collection of clans, there’s no trust or cohesion, the official currency is worthless, there’s regular blackouts and the infrastructure is in poor state. How does your average Lebanese get by each month? What do they do for work? I’ve noticed that Lebanese diaspora are very rich compared to their brothers back home.

Discussion Cinema help
I don’t go to the cinema very often because most movies I can just wait to see at home. But once in a while comes a movie that you need to have that cinema experience.
Last time this happened is when Tron Ares came out. I knew it was going to be a meh movie but I thought the only thing that would make me enjoy it was seeing it in IMAX at VOX for the stunning visuals and sounds. My experience was completely ruined with a bunch of 12 year olds coming in, not caring about the movie, playing games on their phones the ENTIRE time, and even getting out of their seats to push each other around. Completely ruined.
Now The Odyssey is coming out and I want to watch it in the theater. I would prefer IMAX but I think VOX GOLD would have a better chance of no little kids coming in and ruining the movie, especially since it’s 3 hours.
Any thoughts?
