Is it worth going alone?

Hey y'all I think the title is pretty self explanatory but I'm debating on whether or not to attend Boston Fan Expo this year or if it wouldn't be worth it going alone? This is usually an event I'd go with my now ex gf (we went last year) and since it's so last minute, my friends who would be interested in this sorta stuff can't make it. Idk maybe I'm overthinking it as I'm not the type to strike up conversations with strangers. Any advice?

are business cards from cosplayers considered rude?

hi! I'm a cosplayer, and as we all know, conventions can be busy and socializing isn't always the easiest.

I've been long considering making "business cards" for my social media, to make it easier to network and connect with people. I feel like its easy and comfortable, as supposed to the awkward username trade. it also helps keep off the phone aside from photos.

that being said, I'm worried that it will come off as rude or unfriendly. I'd much rather people feel connected and want to be friends, as I am definitely looking for local cosplayer friends. I don't see anything wrong with my card idea, and I wouldn't feel slighted if I received a socials card, but I'm neurodivergent and I don't know how others would perceive it. I even considered putting a note or disclaimer on the card like "sorry for being awkward lol".

idk what do you guys think? how would you feel if you spoke to a cosplayer and they handed you that afterwards?

for context, I've been going to conventions for years. however, I've only ever gotten business cards from actual businesses or photographers. wanted to get a general opinion.

Canadian here does anyone know if the autograph and photo website Leap accepts prepaid visa cards?

Just trying to find out of the site you buy photos through can take prepaid cards or not. I tried looking through the common questions but to no avail.

I just like to budget well and prepaid cards help me do it but don't want to sink a bunch of cash into a card if it won't work.

Hi!

Im sure this is unlikely but I’m hoping someone is selling a single GA ticket for the Evening with the Hobbits panel for Toronto on August 29th! Someone decided to join us last minute and it’s already sold out. Couldn’t hurt to try, right?

Would con-goers say that Fanexpo is the best con in Portland?

Fanexpo is the only convention I’ve been to over the past couple of years, and its been wonderful. But I can’t help but wonder… is it the best one?

Admission/PhotoOp/Autographs - Beware of QR code reselling

With the Boston, Chicago, and Toronto shows rapidly approaching, there will be several posts by folks either looking to buy sold-out tickets or others looking to resell their purchases. While there are "safe-ish" methods of transferring QR codes, there is no method that is 100% secure, even if using Paypal G&S.

It's laughably easy to scam someone by selling a pre-scanned or faked QR code, and since the QR codes are linked to the email address of the original purchaser, any third-party buyers are SOL when it comes to customer service.

I'm not saying every post is a scammer looking to make a buck, but do your due diligence if you opt to buy from a reseller.

Vending / Artist alley question

Has anyone here vended at FanExpo (Boston or otherwise)?

I signed up for the artist alley wait list, and got an invoice today but I never actually got any email saying that I've been chosen. It feels a little scammy, but the email address it's coming from is from the same @ (@informa.com) that the confirmation of my submission form came from. And the bottom of the fanexpo website does say Informa, so it might just be how they do their forms/emails? But the wording feels like a scam, the lack of any other communication from them, and the fact that only ach or wire are allowed for payment seems odd.

Can anyone confirm that this is legit? I'm happy to show screenahot of the email if necessary.

Fanexpo Chicago

I am attending Fanexpo in Chicago on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday I have tickets for the backstage pass with the hobbits and I would like to know from your experiences from other locations of Fanexpo of how I should schedule my autographs/pictures with other celebrities. I want to get an autograph with David Wenham, John Noble, Karl urban, Miranda Otto and a picture with John Rhys-Davies. How should I split them up between Saturday and Sunday? Would it be possible to do them all on Saturday even with the hobbit event? I’ve never been to a con before so I am quite inexperienced in this kind of realm.

Fan Expo Canada - Master of Cosplay and Hobbits Panel Scheduling

Hello!

I have tickets to the Hobbits panel on Saturday, but was also interested in applying for the cosplay competition. I know they both usually occur Saturday night, but I wanted to know if there would be any scheduling conflicts if I were to do both. I have the GA tickets to the Hobbits panel, so would doing the cosplay competition mean I wont be able to line up early for the Hobbit panel and be more likely to get horrible seats? Any insight would be appreciated!

Chances of new guests being added less than 1 month before the event

I know it's probably not going to happen. I am a huge Daredevil fan and I would be ecstatic if the cast of Daredevil showed up to fan expo boston. Only Mike Colter is showing up from the defenders cast. I would love to get a picture with Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll.

It's going to be my first ever fan expo event. I just got my first job after graduating and I am finally able to go to such fan events. I have seen multiple panel videos of Charlie attending these fan events and always wanted to go to one and meet him. I know chances are probably pretty slim but I just wanted to hear y'all's thoughts.

Prop Policy- Fan expo Canada

I was a bit confused about my cosplay. I have a parasol, and I was wondering if I would need to take it through prop check or not, since it’s just an umbrella? For context Ill be doing a Hua Cheng cosplay

I’ll most likely still get it checked just in case, but I was curious about other people’s experiences!

How many signings is feasible to attend on a Saturday

I am thinking of attending Fan Expo Chicago, and I want to attend Friday and Saturday, but probably only be able to attend Saturday. From people in this thread who have attended these, do you think it is possible to get signatures from Kurt Russell, John Carpenter, Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Karl Urban, and Keith David all in one day? I would assume no, but I am curious to hear what people think.

I've been to a fan expo event before but never for anything tcg related, I've recently started playing pokemon for the first time in person and was wondering if the scene is good. I also love trading and buying singles so if anyone has any insight that would be awesome.

Thanks

Toronto FanExpo First Time

Hey!

I’m going to my first FanExpo this August and my boyfriend surprised me with a photo op with Elijah Wood and Sean Astin!! I’m so excited 😆

I have the email confirmation with the QR code ticket but there’s no time on the ticket or in the email.

When and how do we find out what time our photo op is on the day of event?

Also any tips for photo ops and fan expo would be much appreciated :)

just venting over the table costs for Chris Evans lol.

my husband was so excited to have his shield signed, only to find out it’s going to cost $400, so it prob won’t happen anymore bc what in gods green earth is that price 😭 lol. (That’s what we paid for Stan Lee back in 2017, for TWO autographs, and both items were personal items.)

i understand they’re trying to deter scalpers / resellers what have you, but we legit get everything personalized when we get autographs, like we aren’t gonna sell the shield lol 😭

Anyway im sure it’s gonna be a great weekend lol!

End rant

Dallas Cancellation :( and sticker shock

I’m super sad, lol. Matthew Lewis just cancelled. I went to exchange my photo op to the couple people left I hadn’t pre-purchased and was a bit surprised at Corey Feldman’s prices. He’s practically the same as Karl Urban.

Wild.

Getting comic prints as a (mostly) tv/movie media consumer

There are several notable comic illustrators/writers attending the fanexpo. While I personally have not READ many of their comics (I can count on one hand how many comics I’ve read in general😭), I am familiar with the work a little. I studied some of the work, and just have overall appreciation for the medium and style in general.
Would it be considered “bandwagoning” if I wanted to get a signed print? I feel bad, as I wouldn’t want to take up the spot for someone who REALLY delves into comics and such.

4 Hobbits Autograph pack

First time going to fan expo! Someone told me you don’t have to get the autographs on the day you purchased them - example, I bought the 4 hobbits package and am worried about not having time on Saturday to get them all.

Elijah and Dominic are only there Saturday, but Sean and Billy will be there Sunday - can I get their autographs on Sunday if I don’t manage to get them on Saturday?

Will there be a way to get all 4 signatures at once since they’re selling it as a package? If not, can my husband wait in line for me and I join him after getting an autograph?

I don’t want to miss meeting any of the hobbits, we only have one autograph for the both of us so I feel like it shouldn’t be considered cutting in line if he’s been waiting and I join him….but I can see how it might not be cool.

Also if anyone can comment on a night with the hobbits and second breakfast, please do - I’m so excited but have no idea what to expect!

Fan Expo Chicago Gaming Guests

I mainly wanted to make a post because I feel as when I express a concern/idea like this, it resolves itself haha (it's a nicer way of saying I'm complaining). We have about a month left until the con and there hasn't been any big gaming guests announced from my knowledge. It just feels strange because that's always been something that has excited a lot of people. I know the first year I went back in 2024, one of the gaming guests (Neil Newbon), was my selling point for buying a ticket.

I was just curious if anyone else felt the same way so far. Hell, this post could be irrelevant in 24 hours if they end up announcing some gaming guests. I know that there are VAs who do that as well, but I'm mainly meaning a guest who has a gaming role as their biggest and most popular role if that makes sense? And yes, I've filled out the form asking for a few VAs from Resident Evil and a couple other series I really like :) Are there any people you guys are hoping to see?

Toronto Fan Expo, Trading TCG Lorcana and Kayou

Hey! On the Expo website it says there is a lounge for TCG trading. I’d love to trade Lorcana cards and MLP Kayou cards. Does anyone actually show up though? Is it worth it to trade or are people scammy?
