So mermaids have seahorse anatomy... the wonders of SCIENCE!

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 52m ago

I propose further study in the name of science. Who knows what we could learn about all the different mythical species

u/yournamehere10bucks 46m ago

Don't we have a series on the sub for this purpose?

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 35m ago

That would be /u/naughtynectarcomics who ran a looong series about mythological creatures and what not

Though a good majority of them didn't delve into the biology. Guess we gotta do it again. Darn.

u/flatscancomics 28m ago

Lmao welp I know what I'm doing tonight. Also if this work needs to be continued I am technically a biologist. Technically.

u/Toutatis12 25m ago

But are you a whale biologist? Can you call them as you see 'em?

u/flatscancomics 14m ago

Sure. In the sense that mice are basically tiny, terrestrial whales.

u/Toutatis12 12m ago

Evolution took the Indohyus and turned it into whales I think we can speed run that time

u/OSwordfish7 24m ago

Science has chosen you. Don't squander this responsibility.

u/flatscancomics 18m ago

Let's see we got 2 dick centaurs, whatever the hell donkey and the dragon do... Kermit and miss piggy...

u/Toutatis12 11m ago

u/flatscancomics 7m ago

I keep thinking of this and then being like no this has been done so many times lmao

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 8m ago

Oh hey me too! Technically. I have a degree in biology!

u/flatscancomics 5m ago

Biology: It's why we're like this

u/lostbutnotgone 44m ago

Read enough fanfic and all will become clear

And to think Ariel actually has a daughter in the direct-to-video sequel. Which actually makes her the only one of all the Disney princesses to officially have confirmed to have gotten lucky.

u/Richardknox1996 41m ago

Actually, most of them have kids due to the existence of Descendants, 2 weird live action movies involving said kids (and the kids of the villians. Including Maleficent, somehow....).

Edit: How the fuck???? Theres 5 of the crappy movies.

u/Spear_Ritual 35m ago

Bro. Little girls love those. I have reluctantly seen them many, many times. Many times. So so many times. They’re not awful. Or it’s Stockholm syndrome.

u/Richardknox1996 33m ago

Its probably Stockholm Sydrome. Being able to recite Hannah Montana episodes line for line, though a usefull skill for creeping my sisters out in revenge, is not one i willingly chose to learn.

u/dontbeahater_dear 30m ago

I dunno those first three movies are kinda fun! My kid was obsessed for a bit. I liked the songs and outfits. Especially the evil princess in 3!

u/BreadNoCircuses 36m ago

4 live action movies and at least two TV series (one animated, one live action prequel) and one live action short that's set between movies 3 and 4.

u/Calm-Conversation715 13m ago

5th live action Descendants movie dropped yesterday! My kids are psyched

u/vampyreprincess 21m ago

So there's the 3 original Descendants movies with Dove Cameron, Sophia Carson, Cameron Boyce (😢), and Booboo Stewart among others. In those movies, some of the Disney Characters are actually grandparents like Sleeping Beauty. Directed by the guy who did High School Musical. Canonically, Hades and Maleficent got intimate with eachother.

The reboot centers around Wonderland Characters, but I have not seen them since I refuse to pay for Disney Plus so I don't know where in the timeline it is.

There's also books. Lots of books.

This is all not to be confused with Ever After High which was Matell and involved the kids of storybook and fairytale Characters in itself and was sadly canceled.

And the only Disney mother to be alive!

u/Skagzill 56m ago

Simba's mother?

u/Loqol 22m ago

Also Nala!

u/NewAlessia 58m ago

Is Mulans mom alive? Moanas? Auroras?

u/Cloverose2 18m ago

Mirabel too.

u/NewAlessia 17m ago

Idk if people consider Pixar under the Disney umbrella so I didn't want to meantion that

Edit: I'm dumb

u/Cloverose2 16m ago

Encanto isn't Pixar, it's Disney.

u/NewAlessia 16m ago

...you're right idk why I thought that.

u/Cloverose2 15m ago

Lotta movies to keep track of!

u/MarsAstro 55m ago

I believe it wasn't Simba's mother who died.

u/beccadahhhling 31m ago

Ummm, no…

Aurora’s mom, Simba’s mom, Mulan’s mom, Rapunzel’s mom, Tiana’s mom, Merida’s mom, Moana’s mom, Elastigirl, Dumbo’s mom, Andy’s mom…

u/Swordsman82 32m ago

Moana’s mom is still alive and kicking….i also haven’t seen the second one

u/maillite 58m ago

Yep, her name is Melody.

u/SippinOnHatorade 35m ago

Name of my third car. From Ursula->Ariel->Melody

u/sigpop16 37m ago

So that mean? Ariel my man! 😂🤝

u/flatscancomics 27m ago

My oldest was watching the sequel and that's where this all came from

u/Chiiro 25m ago

Think I remember that movie, it's about her daughter wanting to go back to the ocean or being torn between the ocean and land.

This is what happens when your sexual education teacher is an uncertified crab who only teaches in songs.

u/No-Jacket-2927 55m ago

I about died laughing when I first heard that line! Especially for how psychotically nitpicking the censors were back then!

It's another wonderful Friday in the neighborhood. Also, incidentally, my moms birthday. She asked to see my comic this week so I had to explain pegging to a 76 year old lady, which was super fun. Tune in next week for "One-Way Trip"!

You can also find flatscan comics on:

You are a very brave person and that is a hilarious birthday for your mom. Happy birthday mom!

Thanks! -momscan

She says thanks lmao

u/dukeofnes 1h ago

Out of the three, Ariel is the only one to actually have a kid, as far as I know.

u/maillite 58m ago

Yep. Melody

u/FearAndMiseryy 44m ago

They figured it out later

I love how Belle is telling Ariel this while Adam is telling Eric. Two book nerd friends unfortunately having to break the news…

87

u/yournamehere10bucks 1h ago

I think Eric knows....he just doesnt know how to tell her.

u/thefirstlaughingfool 39m ago

I mean, if you're into that sort of thing...

u/kaithespinner 56m ago

I think adam is just comforting eric’s pain of having his wife constantly peg him

u/mayiwonder 53m ago

what pain?

u/kaithespinner 39m ago

maybe he has hemorrhoids

u/mayiwonder 31m ago

like THAT would stop a man in love

u/kaithespinner 29m ago

oh no it wouldn’t, but it sure hurts AF

u/HumanPersonNotRobot 52m ago

I know its a common joke and mermaids are called half human half fish, but Ariels tail goes up and down like a marine mamal not side to side like most fish. She should be reproducing like mamals.

u/Obant 43m ago

Fish also don't have ovipositors, that would be insects.

u/Annaura 19m ago

Female seahorses do.

u/flatscancomics 24m ago

There's some kind of parasitic bitterling that has one I checked!

u/Obant 17m ago

Well I stand corrected! Off to learn about a new fish.

u/flatscancomics 6m ago

I swear I only know that for this comic I dont read about animal reproduction in my spare time work isn't spare time

u/Obant 3m ago

Lmao, well I can't say shit. I watch spiders fuck in my free time. (I breed pet spiders and tarantulas)

u/Cloverose2 17m ago

Yeah, there's no fish that reproduces like this, and Ariel would be a mammal anyway.

u/Augustus420 10m ago

They are just super super derived.

20

u/Leonie-Lionheard 1h ago

No problem. The sea witch has a solution for this.

Oh ... She's dead. But Triton can also do shape shifter magic. So no big deal. I'm sure he wants to be a grandpa.

u/Ulftar 59m ago

Why couldn't she be the other kind of mermaid, with the human parts on the bottom and the fish parts on top!?

u/SpammingShadowball 49m ago

Because then it's not a funny joke... it's just coitus

u/Jaambie 34m ago

Whoosh

u/cplthrawn 49m ago

Eric didn't correct her the implied multiple times. I don't think he's too broken up about it.

u/TheTriforceEagle 7m ago

He's just trying to figure out how he's going to tell her

17

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 1h ago

This being set in the 1800s, Ariel using Eric's "cloaca" probably blew poor little Eric's mind

That being said I feel like he should be the on talking to Ariel about this though again set in the 1800s and I'm probably taking this a bit to seriously

Gif: What tha fuuuu

u/lucyguzz 50m ago

At least Belle has experience figuring out biological differences. Paired with her book smarts, she's probably the best princess to help Arial with her issue.

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC 48m ago

I have to comment again to point out the subtle genius in this. The girls are drinking coffee and Ariel is drinking her's out of a plastic cup. Something you'd commonly see with a particularly famous coffee franchise. A franchise with a fitting logo for someone like Ariel.

u/Tiny-Little-Sheep 54m ago

Lucky bastard

u/Few_Pea8503 59m ago

An Ovipositor and a Cloaca are two totally different reproductive systems - Ariel's logic train here doesn't even meet the track...

And BESIDES Ariel would almost certainly be the one with the Cloaca, not the human! Only a small amount of fish have an ovipositor and mermaids are almost certainly amphibian-adjacent.

u/HumanPersonNotRobot 50m ago

Her tail goes up and down like marine mamals. I would assume she reproduces like a mamals. But that doesn't make a "funny" joke.

u/AdditionalQuietime 37m ago

LMFAO THIS IS HILARIOUS 😂 THE FIRST PANEL BEING A VERY PREGNANT RAPUNZEL HAS ME WEAK!!!! ARIEL HAND OVER HER MOUTH WHEN SHE REALIZES WHAT THEYVE BEEN DOING 😭😭

u/Triggerunhappy 56m ago

This is the best thing in the internet today

u/Technical_Drawing809 10m ago

I VOLUNTEER FOR THE ROLE OF CLOACA AS TRIBUTE

u/EyeSeaCome_hahaha 54m ago

Here's the proof: an upside-down mermaid is more appropriate.

u/GKNolan 28m ago

Eric: Why couldn't she be the other kind of Mermaid? With the fish part on top and the lady part on the bottom.

u/Phaylz 20m ago

Beast is human, but Ariel is not? 🤔

u/Ourobius 2m ago

Not the artist looking for an excuse to draw Rapunzel preg/inf content

u/iQuoteSopranos 1m ago

I made the mistake of googling ovipositor and of course the second hit on Google is sex toys.
