Well, pigeons aren't all the same, so to a pigeon, it just looks like a bunch of other people.

And maybe make sure your friend isn't carrying a hunting firearm.

96

u/Alpaca_Investor 20h ago

Yeah, it would be like a person being surrounded by statues of other people.

Which is a little weird, although we do make statures of other people. But we don’t keep them in our houses for the purpose of making guests comfortable. But, they can make a town square or other such public space feel inviting, so, maybe similar? 😅

23

u/The_Gamexplorer 20h ago

So...

Inviting someone to a wax museum?

7

u/random_BA 20h ago

How we humans are more complex in this sense I think we would need more effort. It would be like some alien hunter put some kinda realistic animatronics to give some life. I can see people flocking more in place with these than in a empty street.

5

u/WhatADoofus 20h ago

This sounds like a good plot for a horror movie. Could have a nice build up of some people driving through a long stretch of a desert road just to find this town they think has people in it, only to get captured once they get too far inside.

Though I like the idea of the animatronics being kind of obvious, just you can't tell from a distance and it sort of lures you in. Then the person has to check out the animatronic wondering why it's even there, giving the alien enough time to grab them. It's a perfect people trap

28

u/smotired 20h ago

So it’s more like when you go to someone’s house and they have a life-size cardboard cutout of Danny Devito

13

u/kiwiagg 20h ago

I'd feel invited :D

7

u/tylorr83 20h ago

“So anyway, I started blasting”

3

u/aNiceTribe 19h ago

Friend of mine had one. Kept him in the bathroom so he would jumpscare people when they turned on the light in there.

4

u/kiwiagg 20h ago

Just thought it would be a funny scene :D with the copies of oneself. But yeah, other people make more sense but then again... What if the friend is an artist?:D I'd be more impressed than weirded out. Also other people make me anxious. Aaaand I guess it's also funny to imagine yourself as a species :DD as a flock. Idk

I'd feel creeped out but more insulted with any "liberties" they take with my likeness.

I'm counting the amount of chins on my neck and it's more than three I'm leaving.

56

u/Constant_Leave_3562 20h ago edited 5h ago

I like what you'll stay if they hce multiple realistic statues pf ypu with three chins

Edit: cough-cough: "I like what you would stay if they had multiple realistic statues of you with three chins." Hope this is better now

23

u/TheS413 19h ago

Did you have a stroke typing?

6

u/Plunger_enema 17h ago

sausage fingers.

6

u/Constant_Leave_3562 17h ago

I was sleepy...

1

u/CATZEBOY_18 6h ago

Could you say that clearly please?

1

u/Constant_Leave_3562 5h ago

Since you asked so politely, I did xd

2

u/CATZEBOY_18 4h ago

What if it's -1 chins?

2

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC 2h ago

Then I'd be creeped out AND call out their laziness.

2

u/CATZEBOY_18 2h ago

:3

But it would take EFFORT to have a NEGATIVE NUMBER OF CHINS, RIGGGHHHTT??

52

u/Made_Bail 20h ago

I'd assume that person was a cannibal and I was dinner.

6

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC 20h ago

"Wwwwhhhhhaaaattttt... nnnnoooo... when I said I want to eat your pancreas I meant it in the metaphorical sense."

6

u/Made_Bail 20h ago

Why do you have a nice chianti on the shelf?

3

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC 20h ago

You called my manga/anime allusion and raised with a Silence Of The Lambs reference. Well played.

3

u/Made_Bail 20h ago

Isn't that one super sad?

2

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC 20h ago

I haven't but want to see it. However the general consensus of that series I picked up on is "Yeah this shit sad AF".

2

u/HAL9001-96 19h ago

get the holy hand grenade

1

u/EmbarassedFox 17h ago

I remember a short story, where it was taxidermy instead of cannibalism, but same.

u/Ketchupcharger 20h ago edited 20h ago

Sure, you can easily buy meat pigeons where I live (pigeons raised for meat kind of like chickens). Its considered a delicacy and supposedly makes for the best stock in existence, although I doubt that. Would love to try though.

Their meat is dark, and very lean.

edit: btw i might be the wrong person to answer that question, I'd eat pretty much anything. Snails, crickets, octopus, fermented shrimp, that swedish fermented fish thing, i love it all. the more putrid the better i find as i age actually lol

31

u/nedlum 20h ago

IIRC, meat pigeons are usually called "squab", so look for that.

15

u/vi_sucks 20h ago

Oh, so that's what squab is. I always thought they were a different bird.

2

u/AramaicDesigns 18h ago

Squab are young pigeons that have just fledged the nest. Pigeon-pigeon are more mature.

Like the difference between lamb and mutton.

12

u/ccReptilelord 20h ago

If I remember correctly, that's primarily why they are found all over the world. They were brought as game.

6

u/Ketchupcharger 20h ago

Yeah, that and also messaging

4

u/Prunus-cerasus 19h ago

Not as game, but as livestock.

2

u/The_cogwheel 20h ago

I tried meat pigeons a few times, theyre not bad. Was kinda like a Cornish Hen in terms of size, but tasted more like a lean duck (and if you havent had duck, a different comparison would be a gamey chicken). If you like duck meat, but dont like the greasy nature of duck meat, pigeon is a pretty good alternative.

Though you have to be careful when cooking it - overcooking pigeon turns it unbearably dry and gives it a distinct liver taste. Theyre not a very fatty bird, so they dry out extremely quickly if not prepared properly. Theyre safe to eat medium rare, and often served as such to keep it from drying out and necessitating a gallon of water with dinner.

And of course, dont eat wild pigeons. They can be crawling with all manner of parasites and disease that you definitely dont want in your gut.

2

u/Ringosis 19h ago edited 5h ago

I've eaten pigeon a bunch of times. If you like game birds it's excellent. Definitely not for you if you don't like the iron rich metallic taste of pheasant or duck because it's that but very full on.

1

u/mumpie 19h ago

Anthony Bourdain ate pigeon in Egypt and he liked it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASBCFMks3Dg

I should note that the pigeon dish a special occasion dish, not what Egyptians eat regularly.

1

u/JelmerMcGee 19h ago

They're very similar to quail, and I've raised those for meat.

1

u/VoyagerfromPhoenix 18h ago

They feel like ducks ngl

1

u/Kitchen_Length_8273 18h ago

Believe Surströmming is the word you were looking for

1

u/RobotGloves 17h ago

Pigeon is very tasty.

22

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 20h ago

I'm just trying to wrap my head around the idea of walking into a room and there being multiple realistic statues of me. What a colossal waste of money on general

7

u/The_cogwheel 20h ago

A better analogy is if the statues wernt of you but of people you might want or need to interact with

Like imagine getting a medical call, showing up and finding its just a bunch of manikins arranged to look like a medical emergency. And as youre trying to figure out what fresh hell you just walked into and if anyone actually needs your help, a couple drug addicts try to jump you to steal your medical bag thinking it has narcotics in it. Thats closer to what a hunting decoy is, just something to confuse you just enough for you to drop your guard or be distracted enough to not notice the trap youre walking into.

Its just pigeons arent very bright, so theyre unlikely to realize theyre in danger until theyre slow roasting in a crock pot.

3

u/DarkScruff 20h ago

I kinda thought it'd be funny if it ended with a shotgun panel from the friend.

2

u/kiwiagg 20h ago

I'm too soft for that I guess:D or too European

1

u/DarkScruff 20h ago

No no Europeans invented shoot first and label later. I love the art work (I think it'd be more like different vaguely off human copies almost like lifelike manicans)

2

u/Artoriarius 17h ago

I figured that's why the friend has their hand behind their back in the last panel.

3

u/Nilsss 18h ago

So expensive she's definitely not throwing them away afterwards. She'll just use them. And you know exactly how.

9

u/zirky 20h ago

“does this rag smell like chloroform to you?”

10

u/Naugle17 19h ago

Pigeon/dove is delicious btw

2

u/AramaicDesigns 18h ago

Came here to say this. Pigeon broth ramen with rare sliced pigeon breast on top is heaven. :-)

7

u/NewUserWhoDisAgain 20h ago

I mean pigeons used to be a domesticated animal. Like multiple breeds etc. I wouldnt be surprised some were raised as livestock.

1

u/karl2025 9h ago

They were. It's why they're worldwide, people brought them places so they'd have an easy source of food.

1

u/kiwiagg 20h ago

Yeah, there are pigeon farms. Saw a frozen pigeon in a store even. But I've never tasted it tho.

7

u/Semper_5olus 20h ago

It's too crowded. I'm leaving.

But if that handsome fella in the corner wants to come with me, I wouldn't say no.

8

u/Emergency_Elephant 20h ago

I think itd be more like "Oh look there are people over there! It must be safe!" And theyre all mannequins

0

u/kiwiagg 20h ago

True:D But to me every pigeon is just a pigeon 🐦

3

u/Chansharp 20h ago

Aren't pigeons like crazy colorful and we just can't see it? Are these decoys painted with colors that we can't see? I don't see how they'de be effective if now

Also looping this to the comic, it'd be like if your friend set up a bunch of really dark grey statues all over their house

5

u/Winjin Comic Crossover 20h ago

I believe you're right, there's these photos of birds with added UV filtering to "See" UV light and how birds see each other:

And apparently a documentary "Life in Colour" with David Attenborough

Not sure about pigeons specifically

8

u/welmour 20h ago

I hope my friend is not trying to hunt and eat me

3

u/CPLCraft 20h ago

It would be more like passable generic human statues, but I get it.

2

u/kiwiagg 20h ago

True but then the author is a person themselves 🤔 idk

3

u/Far-Consideration708 20h ago

Was she invited for dinner? 😬

2

u/kiwiagg 20h ago

Maybe 💀

3

u/wkeil42 20h ago

Okay, but do they still shoot you?

1

u/kiwiagg 20h ago

Depends, it's an open ending

2

u/Sojum 20h ago

Panel 6 had me in tears 😂

1

u/kiwiagg 20h ago

I'm happy to hear that:3

2

u/Ash_Cat_13 20h ago

Welcome to Argentina and lots of South America. Where the dove population is out of control and causing a lot of agricultural problems. They eat and shoot them daily by the thousands.

There’s a whole tourist industry to go to SA and shoot doves.

1

u/kiwiagg 20h ago

I've heard doves taste worse than pigeons?

1

u/Ash_Cat_13 20h ago

Pigeons and doves belong to the same family and are taxonomically almost identical. They taste relatively the same. Taste changes based off of what they’ve consumed

1

u/Difficult-Rip-2580 18h ago

Pigeons are also called Rock Doves

They are sold all the time in grocery stores. Squab is pigeon though it is like veal to cow if that makes sense.

2

u/Malagate3 20h ago

What you need to remember about the pigeon decoys isn't that pigeons are easily fooled, it is that anyone can be fooled with a good enough decoy.

Also, the human equivalent only needs to fool them long enough for the hunter to line up a shot, so you could probably pose some mannequins near a buffet and that would be enough to catch most people.

2

u/kiwiagg 20h ago

I think people might approach more out of curiosity:D than being fooled unless they have bad eyesight

2

u/jackcatalyst 20h ago

Does that mean she's being hunted?

1

u/kiwiagg 20h ago

Who knows 🧐

2

u/mrfriendlolo 20h ago

Ehhh it’s a bit different, the pigeons have a harder time noticing that the decoy pigeons are fake. Than we would with fake humans. Humans are surprisingly good at sussing out fake humans

2

u/Izy03 19h ago

The wax museum gotta be absolutely packed!

2

u/Granny_Bet 18h ago

I love the thought put into the different poses. Like the friend thought "I need one where she's enthusiastically talking, one where she's listening, one where she's posing, and one where she's taking a photo."

2

u/Stilgar314 18h ago

Feeling curious, I guess I'd try pigeon https://duckduckgo.com/?q=pigeon+recipe

2

u/psychonauteer 18h ago

Eating animals is just weird as fuck.

2

u/Equivalent_Ebb1152 18h ago

Yes thats called hunting.

2

u/bean_vendor 18h ago

Counterpoint: Pigeons don't differ too much in appearance on an individual level. Humans do. If a pigeon sees a pigeon decoy, they'll think it's just another pigeon and not a doppelganger or a fake copy of itself. There's also the mirror test. Both humans and pigeons can pass the mirror test, but pigeons need to be trained for it, whereas we just understand that our reflection is just that, a reflection.

2

u/PolloMagnifico 17h ago

That's going to be a "no" from me, dog.

2

u/Plunger_enema 17h ago

This should be marked 18+.

You're about to be the main course. By this, I mean somebody bought whipped cream and strawberries. I hope you washed thoroughly.

2

u/reklesssabrandon 16h ago

I wouldn't even ask and just assume they're fucking those mannequins of me.

2

u/Rhunt2021 15h ago

Plot for a horror movie called "Garage Sale". Wealthy people set up a neighborhood garage sale to lure in young poor people who are never seen again...

2

u/caddyben 15h ago

This is just literally called hunting.

There are decoys for so many different kinds of animals I really don't understand the purpose of this comic.

2

u/The_Waterbat 13h ago

Mannequins

2

u/DoveOnTheInternet 9h ago

Well this is disturbing as fuck.

Coo.

2

u/dumnezero Art enjoyer 7h ago

Wait until you learn about Judas goats. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judas_goat

2

u/Nadran_Erbam 20h ago

Not a pigeon, but turkeys will try to mate with females at ALL COSTS. The most extreme examples are decapitated female heads, so.... with all due respect, I'm not expecting a lot from pigeons on this side.

1

u/Baebel 20h ago

"She's going eat her, then she's going to eat me! OOOOH MY GOOOOOOD!"

1

u/PandaBear905 20h ago

I’ll try anything once

1

u/rmeddy 20h ago

Isn't this basically what ad agencies do?

1

u/_kahteh 19h ago

This is extremely Magnus Archives coded and I love it

1

u/sax87ton 19h ago

You mean like JC penny’s, yeah.

1

u/Tethilia 19h ago

needs an edit with a knife behind her in the last panel

1

u/TieCivil1504 19h ago

Pigeons were considered a delicacy called 'squab'.

1

u/Coveinant 19h ago

I mean to be fair, pigeons be stupid.

1

u/rob132 18h ago

What you got behind your back there dude?

1

u/imreallynotthatcool 18h ago

It's called squab. And when you're a broke redneck kid with a .410 it's good eatin'.

1

u/Murderouspiplup 18h ago

I live in Italy and my father is a hunter. We have this bird here (Columba palumbus) who is very similar to a pigeon. Cleaned an ate it a few times, it's dry and the taste in a bit on the stronger side, but it's definitely an animal I don't dislike. But since the idea of waking up at 4 am on my free day in the coldest season of the year to go shoot a bird who would gladly keep living, I'll just eat it if my father gives it to me.

1

u/K_Linkmaster 18h ago

As a child we supplemented with pigeon.

1

u/Ok_Positive8362 18h ago

Did you not read your own comic!? Get the hell out! Shes gonna eat you

1

u/Steppyjim 18h ago

I don’t think pigeons have the brain power to be creeped out by anything. These are the same animals that sometimes randomly waddle into a predators nest because reasons

1

u/rysy0o0 17h ago

Fun fact: there is a dish that in Poland is called Gołąbki (little pidgeons) and it's minced meat with rice (or groats) and other food stuff (onion, mushrooms etc.) packaged in a cabbage leaf.

1

u/Dead_Pan_Stan 17h ago

Wait until you find out what a Judas Goat is.

1

u/SgathTriallair 16h ago

It's much more like filling a social media site or online game lobby with bots so that it feels like a popular place.

1

u/guitar_dude10740 16h ago

I've never eaten pigeon my self by my grandfather was a squab farmer for a period of his life and my father still speaks on the taste, so it is on my bucket list for sure.

1

u/YeshilPasha 16h ago

Of course I would. Here is a recipe for it. https://honest-food.net/roast-pigeon-recipe/

1

u/Square-Competition48 13h ago

Pigeon is delicious. It’s a dark meat like duck that should be treated similarly for cooking.

1

u/udumslut 13h ago

It's just squab, though I imagine snagging a pigeon off the city street is going to taste different than if you buy like legit squab.

1

u/afroblewmymind 9h ago

I think this is more likr how a lot of predatory men try to signal safety to women by having other women around 😬

1

u/Perfect-Elephant-101 6h ago

It's called "squab" when it's raised for eating btw.

1

u/AdGreedy7854 4h ago

She got the gun hidden behind the door

0

u/fondledbydolphins 20h ago

Apparently they do the same thing in some places to hunt geese.

You'll go by a farm that's been harvested, or not yet planted, with 20-50 fake geese just chilling.
