Medical Questions 10 months after getting spayed and her belly fur never came back?

As you can see her belly is still bald 10 months after being spayed. Like a tiny bit of peach fuzz around the edges and nothing else. She never licked at the area and had a cone on for 13 days post surgery. I don’t understand why the fur isn’t growing back she looks ridiculous 😭. Is this normal? Will it ever come back?

EDIT: I work from home 3 days a week and I’m home a lot and she is pretty much glued to me most of the day and never see her grooming there excessively but possible she does it when I’m not looking. I’ll ask the vet next time we go. Im surprised there are so many other people here with bald belly cats cause the Internet research I did not seem to think that was a thing! It makes me feel better knowing there is a bald belly cat gang out there I guess I will embrace the pooch if the vet says it’s just a thing that can’t be helped!

Medical Questions Weird white flakes coming out of kitten

Post image

I just rescued this baby from outside about an hour ago. I usually don’t encourage getting cats this early but she had been outside in the pouring rain for a few hours and I had to. When I went to go comb her fur I felt tons and tons of little clumps. They crumbled and formed into little white flakes, kinda looking like human dandruff. What is this? Is it a medical condition?

FINAL UPDATE: I’m so sorry for the grim update, but we had to put her down. I’m at least glad she was able to go without being in pain. Thank you all for your love and support.

I am a city letter carrier and I started a new route where I have been running into this guy daily. the first time I saw him, he genuinely scared me because I thought his eyes were popping from his head! Now I have seen him twice more and he let me get a photo today. Does this look normal?? I have 4 cats at home and none of their eyes are even half as large! TIA

She is 8-9 months old and this is the first time I’ve had a pet and it’s been pretty scary and new.

Suddenly this morning she has been walking with her bum up and backwards and seems to be in pain and much more vocal and hanging out with me a lot.

Could someone please tell me what to do here ?

Medical Questions Please help - cat acting weird after neutering

Thumbnail

21.2k Upvotes

hello, its midnight where i am hence im asking the question here, will take my cat to the vet first thing in the morning.

He is almost 8 months old and we got him neutered today. the surgery happened around 2PM and it is 11:30PM now.

first two hours after surgery - he remained still with both eyes open (we had to put some eye drops so they don’t dry out). he had erratic breathing during this time.

3rd/4th hour - started twitching trying to get up

5th hour - still could not get up. peed himself on the spot. we took him to the vet and he cleaned him up, said he looked fine.

7th hour onwards- he is now moving a little, limping. not drinking water yet. we gave him a treat and he was able to take small licks of it. he is however not able to open his mouth at all.
i gave him some dry food mixed in water to soften it, and then grinded into a paste for ease of eating. it seems like he is hungry because he dunked his face into it and got it all messy, barely able to eat much (due to not being able to open his mouth).

he peed again on the floor. we got the litter for him inside the room and he very clumsily went to it and peed inside it. i will try to give him the food that i made again in a bit.

ive attached a photo of his face right now in this moment. one eye is droopy. he isnt sleeping either. but he isnt panting also. he is not meowing since hes not able to open his mouth. the vet seems not bothered when we took him late in the evening saying that the cat will be fine by tomorrow.

is this someone elses experience too?

is this normal after neutering/anesthesia? i am panicking so much and trying to find 24 hr vet options near me but i need to know if this warrants a look or if it can wait till morning before we take a look?

UPDATE - I found a vet 40 mins from my place that was luckily open and they were so kind. its almost 2AM and we are just returning home.
So he has eye ulcers due to his corneas drying during the procedure (cats eyes remain open under anesthesia). they have given some eye drops and it will be fine in 3-4 days. he also has 104 degree fever, which is why he was so low. they gave him an injection for that. other than that, they said he is fine. he started being active at the vets, even jumped on the counter and had an entire treat.
we are headed home now and i am praying that my little baby boy feels better soonest. i was literally in tears on the way to the vet, this has been such a long day for us.

thank you to everyone who encouraged me to go to the vet, if anything, i have peace of mind for tonight.
we will go tomorrow morning now for his post op care (antibiotics, wound cleaning, etc).

He’s never had this strange shape inside that looks like a “Y”. It doesn’t seem to be caused by the lighting in my house, because it happens in different positions and with different light sources

Medical Questions Need advice on rescuing elderly cat from living in a bathroom

Hello everyone! This is Stella, she’s 17 years old. She is so super sweet and just wants love.

Recently someone my mom knows told her about this cat they have that apparently lives in their bathroom and has lived in their bathroom for 10+ years. Unfortunately, with all the moisture in a bathroom for that long, her entire body is essentially one huge hair mat. She has also been declawed. When she walks she is incredibly stiff. I’m sure it’s a mix between her toes hurting and all the mats on her body. The pictures do not do it justice with how badly matted this cat is. It looks so so so so much worse in person, her entire body is like hard to the touch.

Neither my mom nor I can afford the $500 multiple vets are quoting us, but she had to get out of that bathroom. I don’t know how to go about finding her a new home in a state like this. We are willing and wanting to keep her, but neither of us can afford a $500 bill right now. My ears are open to advice on this sweet old gal. 💕

I’m pretty sure it’s not a nipple this time!

I noticed this for the first time just now. I thought it was a tick since i walk my cat in the garden, but it seems more like a growth? Of course i will go to a vet if needed, just looking for first impression from the community.

It was a tick, thanks everyone. For all the tick fetishists: https://imgur.com/a/nOdSIwo

Looking for opinions on a strange growth my cat has had for years.

My cat has had this growth on her nose for approximately 7 years, She is 9. I have had her since she was 5 weeks old, wasn't born with it. I've taken her to a veterinarian in the past, but they were unsure exactly what it was and so they couldn't/wouldn't remove it which i can understand.

Despite how alarming it looks, she seems completely normal. She eats well, drinks, breathes normally, plays, purrs, grooms herself, and generally acts like a happy cat. The growth doesn't appear to cause her pain when touched. It in 7 years has gone from a small bump, to what you see now slowly.

It has been there for so long that I'm surprised she's had no other symptoms, but I still worry about what it could be and whether it could eventually become dangerous.

Has anyone seen anything similar before? I'm not looking for a diagnosis, just curious if anyone has experience with a growth like this or suggestions on what type of specialist might be able to identify it.

Thank you! ❤️😻

Medical Questions What's wrong with his lips?

Thumbnail

6.1k Upvotes

the first four pictures are "before." the rest are "after."

3 months old, had him for 2 weeks. He acts completely normal, chows the hell down, drinks out of his fountain.. His bowl and fountain are clean stainless steel.. He plays all the time like normal and naps for like 4 hours on top of me in the most inconvenient ways. Normal kitten stuff. Recently, his lips have gotten super red, his nose a little bit too. He even has some weird looking divot underneath, look closely and you might be able to see it. Whats wrong with him? What did I do? Please help, I'm super worried as this is my first time owning a cat.

I was going to take him to the vet, but my dad got really angry and made me cancel the appointment, saying I was being ridiculous. Does it look serious?

Edit: Got him an appointment tomorrow morning. You can quit screeching at me

Edit 2: Update is up, good news. check it out

this is 24/7. i don’t acknowledge the behavior and only pet her when she’s quiet but nothing helps. we moved about 4 months ago into a new house and ever since about 3 months ago this has been a constant thing. i let her outside to see if she just wanted fresh air and she just kept doing it even in the neighbors yard. she’s 3 years old and acts healthy and gets the zoomies and nothing has changed with her appetite or litterbox habits. idk what to do 😭

Medical Questions my cat pees and poos in the toilet

Post image
46.4k Upvotes

Hello, everyone

So this crazy thing happened, my cat started peeing in the toilet

She always had litter issues and she has problems with cleanliness, before she peed in random places in my house

I took her to the veto who told me that it was probably due to stress

But recently she started urinating in the toilet, I was shocked because I never taught her that before, she did it by herself

Today I come home from work and I feed her, usually then a little poop follows

I see that she is heading to the FORBIDDEN rooms of the house where to poop, the dressing room and my bed, which obviously I refuse her by closing the doors because she likes to urinate and poop everywhere except in her litter box

But something crazy happened, she pooped in the toilet

Although this situation enchants me and I am shocked, I am still worried,

Do you think it’s due to stress?

I’ll send you a picture of her in the toilet

Thank you!

Medical Questions My kitten is slowly starving herself and Idk what to do

Thumbnail

12.6k Upvotes

I found Vivi (calico cat) with her brothers in a garbage can on April 12th. If I had to guess, they were about a week old at the time, especially since one kitten already had his eyes open.

I’ve been caring for them since then. The smallest of the three died on the first day with me, as he was very tiny and weak. The other two did well on kitten formula at first.

Then the yellow tabby started losing a lot of weight and refusing to eat. By Friday night, he had passed away.

Now Vivi is the only one left. She’s around 3–4 weeks old and had been doing well until Sunday, when she started refusing food and dropped from 290g to 250g. She refuses most of the formula and completely ignores kitten wet food.

She has been to the vet, who dewormed her and told me to keep trying with food. I am doing that, but honestly this is stressing me out a lot. She still plays, is alert, and walks around normally, but getting her to eat is really difficult.

Does anyone have any advice or experience with something similar? At this point, I’m really worried she’s going to starve herself.

Edit: I'm a little overwhelmed with all the comments but I've read every single one of them. I can't tell you how much your support, advice and well wishes means to me. These past few weeks have been incredibly hard ngl.

Some clarifications:

  • This is not my first time taking care of kittens/puppies... But I never had such a mortality rate, so guilt has been eating at me hard. I do know what I'm doing tho, at least generally speaking.
  • Vivi and her brothers have been fed kitty formula, stimulated to pee and poop, and kept in a warm space since the beginning. She's now in a playpen where she can interact with us and the space around her in a safe manner, with a warm water bag in her bed at all times.
  • Despite her lack of appetite, she meows for attention, walks around, pees and poops (solid and mustard yellow), plays and is very curious. If it wasn't for the lack of appetite and her weight, I wouldn't be this distraught.
  • I live in Portugal, and while not in an exactly rural area, it's still hard to get vet care that I can afford/supplies that even exist on sale here. The cat association in my city was of no help and the Municipal kennel even less. I'm pretty much on my own, but trying.

UPDATE 2:

Despite all your wonderful advice and support, I still haven't been able to convince my mother to take her to the vet (money we definitely don't have, but still). I will hopefully get my unemployment check soon enough and go then.

We've given her to try all manners of food now - like a good Portuguese kitten, codfish was what she got most interested in before eventually also losing interest. Now on kitty formula made with chicken broth to hopefully keep some nutrients in.

UPDATE 3

Vivi was seen by the vet and has now been diagnosed with Feline Panleukopenia Virus (feline parvovirus), which explains why she suddenly stopped eating and became weak.

She has started medication, and the vet recommended 24-hour hospitalization. Unfortunately, I cannot afford that cost right now, so I am doing everything I can to care for her at home.

A few people asked how they could help, so I created a GoFundMe for Vivi’s treatment and veterinary care. If anyone would like to support her, even a small donation or sharing the fundraiser would mean so much.

Thank you to everyone who has given advice, kindness, and support. I truly appreciate it, and Vivi is still fighting.

Medical Questions A big lump appeared on my cat overnight - any ideas?

Thumbnail

8.7k Upvotes

On Wednesday my cat seemed a little fatter in his neck area, but i didnt think much of it. On Thursday a big lump appeared on his neck literally out of nowhere. It felt soft to touch and kinda moving under pressure. I rushed him to the vet and it disappeared on the way. Almost like if I massaged it away by simply trying to feel it out. When the vet touched him she felt nothing but the cat started hissing. They tried to do an xray but he was too agitated and they sent me home with gabapentin and an anti inflammatory drug to take for 3 days. The next appointment is scheduled for Sunday.

He does not seem to be improving in terms of swelling. Otherwise he is eating, drinking, using the litter box, jumping and doing all regular cat stuff. I am planning to take him back to the vet first thing tomorrow instead of Sunday, just to be safe. Its Friday night rn where I am.

In the meantime - have you ever seen anything like this? Any suggestions what it could be? I don't recall any injury and he seems to be moving just fine. No recent vaccination in the area either.

Thanks for your input!

I’m in the heatwave in Paris and her rhythm is abnormally fast. She doesn’t let me put her on a wet towel…

update : she seems to have calm down, she is back to breathing normally and she ate ! She ate her pâté and some kibble. I have a little fan in the room that helps but no freezer or AC. I will check on her regularly but it seems it has passed for now. Thank you so much for all your help and making me feel less alone in this :)
