This is where you can share:

  • Stuff that isn't directly related to Barrie, like national news or general chit-chat
  • Questions about local businesses and services
  • Classified-style ads: buying and selling, help wanted, garage sales, etc
  • Fundraisers and donation drives
  • Plugs for your personal project or local business (within reason)

Question Tellamax

I was wondering anyone on it right now how good is it? And how much do you pay a month? I have had enough of Roger’s as their internet in my house seems to keep shutting off every night and for what we are paying it’s just not worth it. Any input is appreciated ✌️

Looking For Best gym for a beginner

Edit** I should add that the big reason why I’m asking for gyms is because this is all apart of my therapy and healing! I know a lot of how I feel is in my head and that’s why I wanted an idea of a good space for me to start this part of my journey. I spent majority of 2025 in my house, secluded from friends and family and basically was just exisiting. I am so grateful for all the recommendations! I’m really excited to start in the gym and see where this takes my healing journey!!

Hi everyone,

I’ve struggled majority of my adult life (21-36) with being obese. I have fluctuated between 320-283 for the last 7 years. I have struggled with binging and purging. Late 2025/early 2026 I was extremely depressed and struggling trying to get a formal adhd diagnosis. Over that time I went from 308-253. I have been medicated for 2.5 months and have been able to stabilize my eating. I’m on a high protein high fibre diet and I’ve never felt better.

I need to start working out ( I walk every day) but I know I need to get over my fear of the gym and just go for it. I say all of that to all what would be the most beginner friendly for a girl who is down to 229 and wants to start building muscle and creating a new lifestyle by implanting workouts but has no clue what she’s even doing? Lol

I’ve always been an anxious person and I’ve worked hard on fixing that. The only thing that still causes me extreme anxiety is the fear of the gym but I’m so badly wanting to start! Please help!

Question Community interest check for coding/ science club

Hey would anyone be interested in developing a community club for weekly meetings that discuss coding, space and science?

We could meet up weekly at a cafe and code together, talk about space news or break throughs in science. All levels and talents welcome :)

I could also start a discord group.

My son and I recently bought some Traxxas RC cars off marketplace. I’m looking for some good off road places in Barrie to drive them. Driving them on the street is too boring.

Looking For Lots of Anxiety Car buying, not great at it. Any decent dealers for suggestion?

Trying find a decent size car for my wife and I (I drive she does not). Were both 6 Foot 2", I'm on the quite larger size for now hopefully not forever till my medication treatment is over.

Looking for something with 7 or so seats. Love to have Captain in the middle for comfortability.

I like SUV style or at least raised high enough to slide in and out without the need to duck, for both my wife and I mostly for her disability as she uses crutches and has very little body strength. Mine ones again temp from the drugs for my treatment.

I tried smaller car like Rav4, but it seems a bit too small for us did not meet the seat requirement anyways.

It would be nice if it came with 360 view, blind spot cameras, etc for safety as we also have a little one.

I was thinking a Used maybe 3-5 year old Palisade Seems the price about right 30-35k...

I kind of like the car and the idea the reviews and even mechanic reviews don't seem terrible, mostly some the shocks can get a bit expensive cuz self adjusted ones, but overall seems like most repairability is similar to other vehicles.

It's no Toyota but then your looking at like another 10k+ for something like a Highlander.

Cars are really bad place right now $$$, but I guess everything is really.

But once again the issue here is the whole anxiety, haggling, all the crap I hate and actually is very medically bad for me with my current medical condition. We don't have the family support for this unfortunately.

Suggestions on possible dealers be great. I can't leave town far my current mechanic suggests staying with in Barrie with my Car LOL. Good guy, said the end of my vehicle is now. Fist holes on the body, AC shot, lots of damage, it's scrap metal sadly at this point. Right now I drive a Ford Escape 2012 to give you an idea.

Thanks.

Question Making friends in Canada as a newcomer

I’m moving to Barrie, ON in October for work, and this will be my first time being away from my family and community. I’ve been looking online about life in Canada and have seen mixed experiences. I’ve always heard that Canadians are very kind and welcoming, and I’m looking forward to meeting people from different cultures.

For people who have moved to Barrie, how did you go about making friends? Has anyone had experience moving there? I heard taking a class or joining activities could help but I want to hear other people’s experiences.

Looking For Looking to upgrade my PC but I'm too scared to do it myself.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to upgrade my gaming PC, but honestly, I'm too scared to open it up myself. The most technical thing I've ever done was replace a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con joystick, and even that had me worried about losing screws.

My PC is an Acer Predator PO3-600 with:

  • Intel i7-9700
  • RTX 2060
  • 16 GB RAM (2×8 GB DDR4-2666)

Current storage:

  • C: 475 GB SSD (Windows, programs, and games that require an SSD)
  • D: 1 TB HDD (documents, downloads, pictures, videos, VODs, and games that require an internal drive)
  • F: 2 TB external HDD (Steam games that can run from an external drive)

My top priority is adding another SSD dedicated to games. Anything after that is just a nice bonus if it fits my budget.

I'd also like to:

  • Upgrade to 32 GB of RAM.
  • Possibly have my drives cloned or reorganised while they're at it. I'm open to suggestions if there's a better way to organise them.

Since this is also my streaming PC, I'd rather pay someone experienced than risk breaking something myself.

I also don't have a car, so I'd be interested in either:

  • An on-site technician who can come to my home.
  • A local shop where I can bring the PC in and, if possible, have the work completed the same day.

Streaming is my job, so I'd really prefer not to be without my PC overnight if it can be avoided.

I'm on a bit of a budget. I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest option, but I'd rather pay a fair price for someone who knows what they're doing and stands behind their work.

I'm not looking to hire anyone immediately. I'm still planning and saving up for the upgrades. Right now I'm just trying to find trustworthy shops or technicians that I can reach out to when I'm ready.

Does anyone have any recommendations for trustworthy shops or technicians in the Barrie area?

Thanks!

Information PSA - Jackson’s Toyota.

If you are at the end of your lease and want to buyout the vehicle, DO NOT do it with Jackson’s Toyota. They tried to charge us a $799 buyout fee. I understand that a buyout fee is a completely normal thing but we found another dealership that only charges $300. Even they said $799 was ridiculous!
So this, combined with some incorrect information they gave us, an extremely lowball offer on the vehicle and basically just being treated like a number instead of a person has really turned us off this dealership. We’ve been customers for years but will never go back.

Information Anyone else catch this?: Puff of smoke coming from building

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey guys, I'm not the one driving but I saw a mini explosion? All I saw was blue and then a puff of smoke coming out. This was next to highway 400 next to Fairview Rd close to Essa Rd. Was curious if anyone else saw this?

I tried to take a video to see if anything else would have happened, but I just caught the puff of smoke.

EDIT: I'm seeing y'all's replies and okay I'm glad it was nothing bad. I'm not from Barrie and didn't want to stay quiet in case it was something serious. hope everyone's power comes back on soon and those who are working on it stay safe!

Review New truck bought at Barrie dealership.

I bought a brand new truck this spring at a Barrie dealership. . Had them put on side steps. This is what they put on. I looked at every truck in the parking lot at Walmart and Canadian Tire, etc. and I haven’t seen any trucks that have this amount of rust on their side steps that are even close to newer trucks. Do you think this is acceptable?

Update. They are fixing it. Had no issues as the dealership installed them before I picked the truck up.

Looking For What are your favourite paddle board /kayak launch spots?

I am always at Johnson or Minets and want a little change in the scenery. I have tried a few spots in Oro that I stumbled across when driving by. Rivers, lakes, creeks - all suggestions are appreciated.

Ideally looking for a spot upto 20-30 minutes away for my daily paddling sessions. If there is beautiful spot farther away, I’d love to explore that on the weekends.

Currently looking into Nottawasaga River. If you’ve gone paddling/kayaking here - what route did you take?

If you have a hidden gem that you don’t wanna share, please dm, I’ll keep it a secret! :D

Looking For Any places in Barrie with a crispy/crunchy shawarma wrap?

I’ve been trying to find a shawarma place in Barrie that does a crispy/crunchy style wrap.

I think Shawarma Royal has something like this, but I’ve generally found the bigger shawarma chains to be pretty disappointing compared to local spots.

For me, Taste of Shawarma is miles ahead of any other shawarma in Barrie in terms of flavour and quality, but unfortunately they don’t offer a crispy/crunchy wrap.
Are there any hidden gems in Barrie that do this well? Looking for recommendations from people who’ve actually tried them!
