This teaser slaps. Still one of the eeriest I’ve ever seen for a video game

8

u/needs2shave 1d ago

The whole reason I bought an Xbox 360 when I turned 18 and had ID was because of the original trailer for Dead Space.

I love The Ishimura, gave the perfect atmosphere

Thanks for actually spelling out the word and not using "ahh"

Its crazy how many people would reflexively try to catch that lol. I work in a tool and die room and we deal with heavy plates and such and every so often a plate will tip a little and I watch dudes that have been working here longer than I've been alive jump to try and catch it as if thats not a one way trip to the hospital. Btw the pieces are usually attached to cranes but sometimes you have to slack them off to get another piece on and sometimes the plates have to just sit there with basically a crane to catch it right before it hits the floor. Its not ideal but building a frame or something to put them together would be expensive and as long as you just let it fall no one will get hurt

Yep

There is a video out there somewhere of a guy that tried to stop a rolling coil of steel, i wish I had not watched it. It was out long beforeAI

29

u/Honey-Ra 2d ago

Unfortunately I watched that. Poor dude probably didn't think it through and just reflexed to try and stop something moving that shouldn't have been.

26

u/Infinite-Fig4708 2d ago

This guy fell victim to one of the classic blunders - the most famous of which is 'never get involved in a land war in Asia' - but only slightly less well-known is this: 'Never try to stop a tumbling ATV with only your face!’

6

u/flanigomik 2d ago

i understood that reference!

2

u/Throwaway-4230984 17h ago

What kind of equipment will significantly improve your chances? Pretty sure nothing you can realistically carry

18

u/Few_Rooster9591 2d ago

I work in a logistics company. I've witnessed three instances of people trying to stop a rolling 40 foot trailer. Well, yeah.

14

u/TakinUrialByTheHorns 2d ago

I've stopped someone from trying to stop a rolling boat trailer before...
I get freaking out over something expensive but literally nothing is worth your death unless you're going to save a child imo.

3

u/EleMenTfiNi 1d ago

I'd add anyone you love to that list as well.

Remember leave work the same way you came in. Unharmed and intact. One would say it is imperative.

4

u/nailbiter111 2d ago

Worst I saw was a video on LiveLeak, it no longer exists as it did, in which a door-sized sheet of thick glass heinously and cartoonishly flattened a worker that tried to catch it as it fell. I think it was a Chinese factory.

8

u/_dangling_participle 2d ago

Sure you're not thinking of this, lol?

6

u/Sea_Working_6998 2d ago

Even if/when they do, this instances are about logic and appropriate reflexes... And that's where the Darwin Awards come in

2

u/RetPala 1d ago

Bro looked like Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit after the steamroller

14

u/rcowie 2d ago

I worked in a slaughter house around a bunch of kids. I wasn't in anyway the boss but I preached all the time that a falling knife has no handle. Well sharpen it or buy a new one. Trying to catch it is how you stab a coworker.

7

u/Key_Watercress8300 2d ago

I wonder what instincts in our brains tell us we can stop something moving. Is it just a difficulty for our flight-or-fight responses to accurate judge how heavy things can be?

12

u/DicemonkeyDrunk 2d ago

People especially men vastly overestimate their strength…this is way less of an issue if you’ve actually done a lot of manual labor ( many of them have learned their limitations the hard way or will) ….some huge percentage of men think they could fight a bear successfully….people are dumb.

2

u/EleMenTfiNi 1d ago

Not even a single digit percentage of men think they can fight a bear..

Unrelated probably, I have a thing for flipping/catching long objects or tossing things behind my back and catching them with the same hand. I was working in a kitchen and showed off how I can do it with a knife. My coworker was instantly sure he could but was a bit scared. I told him he shouldn't start with a knife and I've been doing it for a long time with objects that aren't dangerous. I told him that I watch the object spin, intuit where the handle will be, move my hand there, and wait for the object to land in my hand. I have honed my perception so that this is second nature.

He continued to insist he could and I can't control an adult so I told him nothing bad will happen if he drops the knife and that if he has any second thoughts while it's floating to let it hit the ground. He tossed the knife rather well but chickened out and when the knife hit the ground the handle cracked off the hilt and the knife was toast. I told him it wasn't bad because he didn't get cut.

10

u/Katzchen12 2d ago

Any day something stupid happens and no one gets hurt is a good day tbh.

2

u/EleMenTfiNi 1d ago

Moral of the story, you guys are both crazy.

2

u/met1culous 2d ago

No one would get hurt if you guys weren't slackin' each other off all the time.

3

u/Katzchen12 2d ago

How else we supposed to get our parts together? Those tools won't work themselves, either way its a relief when its done.

2

u/R3VIVAL-MOD3 2d ago

I had a teacher growing up that early one morning was ironing. Set the iron down. It fell of the board. And she instinctively tried to catch it. Burned her hand

Dude needs a hospital. That kind of impact bruises the brain which can become permanent damage if it swells and causes crushing/tearing in the brain.

Whiplash is no joke

Still can be concussed.

314

u/reddead_redemption 2d ago

I dont think those thumbs up meant anything.

230

u/Zinvestor 2d ago

Bingo. That's the nervous thumbs up that you do as an immediate reaction to calm yourself down when you know your shit just got fucked up.

75

u/reddead_redemption 2d ago

Poor guy is gonna get terrible neck pain for rest of the life.

26

u/AbleCryptographer317 2d ago

Lucky for him it's likely to be a short one.👍

16

u/McChelsea 2d ago

My thoughts exactly. One time I faceplanted super hard in a crowded bar and I started yelling "I'M OK!" before I had assessed the damage. I was just embarrassed, and hurt, but not as bad as this guy.

5

u/RobertMaus 2d ago

Absolutely. Immediate shaky thumbs up? Definitely not okay 😅

31

u/ArnoldTheSchwartz 2d ago

His head went back like a pez dispenser It looks like his head is resting on his back!!

16

u/BriskiPikachuu 2d ago

Jesus christ...

18

u/GrinningPariah 2d ago

God the impact is one thing, that's his neck fucked up for sure, but the part I really worry about is the crush. I actually hope it full-on hit his helmet because that could maybe survive it. Everything else about him is much more... squishy.

9

u/TopCapTheApp 2d ago

He was just demonstrating he still had two thumbs

14

u/No-Slide4206 2d ago

he looks tired

4

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 2d ago

Ignore the downvotes. I acknowledge your pun.

3

u/Elguapo1094 2d ago

Yeaaaa his head left his body Idk if he was really okay .

2

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 2d ago

It's called a fencing response. When you die, your arm sticks up, like in Rick or Morti.

Here he only died a little bit, so only his thumbs stuck up.

u/Shot_Quit_4728 2d ago

u/Lebassplayah 2d ago

If you can dodge a barrel rolling ATV, you can dodge a ball

1.7k

u/Correct-Minute-154 2d ago

He did stop it tho lol.

679

u/KallmeKatt_ 2d ago

Nah that was the atv behind him that stopped it

198

u/AntalRyder 2d ago

He was still helpful tho, cushioned the impact a little bit

113

u/lazyeca 2d ago

For the other atv 😆

13

u/TootsHib 1d ago

Which is the ATV that he owns

36

u/ThrustTrust 2d ago

Which I believe was his only concern.

2

u/Eagles365or366 1d ago

No, he was only a meat cushion for the other atv.

2

u/boverly721 1d ago

Very nice of him to make sure the atv wasn't injured

35

u/Kelvininin 2d ago

He prevented his ATV from getting damaged. I get that.

6

u/I_am_the_Vanguard 1d ago

Might have prevented himself getting damaged if he just rode his atv out of the way. But I get it, not much time to think when it’s coming straight for you

→ More replies (1)

131

u/x_Leigh_x 2d ago

If the ATV behind him wasn’t there, he’d be playing Katamari Damacy.

29

u/CloudBurn2008 2d ago

Do I want to know what katamari damacy is?

Oh it's a game, this wasn't nearly as dark as I thought it would be

18

u/matycauthon 2d ago

it's a game where you roll everything alive or not into an astronomically sized ball. is that not dark enough for you?

4

u/AspiringTS 2d ago

Katamari Damacy is definitely Fridge Horror below all the colorful levels and cheerful upbeat music.

2

u/SofterBones 2d ago

I've never played it but I know the soundtrack is dope as hell, every song is a banger

2

u/Kevadu 2d ago

It was a very fun, quirky, and original game that never really succeeded as a franchise because after the second entry or so they kept making them worse...

→ More replies (1)

141

u/Electric-Sheepskin 2d ago

I think it's likely he was just getting off his own vehicle and not getting out of the way in time. I don't think he was throwing his hands up to try and stop it. I think it was a defense mechanism.

50

u/facemusk 2d ago

it's crazy this crowd can't see that

16

u/Kautiontape 2d ago

But... but... the title says... it's not lying is it?!

19

u/ZoomTown 2d ago

Yeah, I think the fish-eye style to the camera is clouding the fact that the ATV was sort of rolling in a curve, I dont the guy realized it was going to change direction and come right at him.

6

u/Aeseld 1d ago

Except his position and stance says he was moving forward into it while bracing for the impact. Arms didn't fly up, they were held forward to absorb impact, elbows bent to take the shock.

He had already gotten off his own vehicle, for long enough to step into the oncoming atv. He definitely had time to step out of the way, and chose to step forward instead.

11

u/CrazyBag 2d ago

He could've left the other side and hidden behind his ATV as a defensive reaction. It really looks like he gets out of his ATV right before it hits it to protect it thinking it won't be that heavy since it's almost stopped. Watch it again.

2

u/yeppbrep 2d ago

not everyone has perfect reactions buddy, but clearly you would NEVER make a mistake like this in a panic situation . . .

9

u/BigBoyoBonito 2d ago

I understand that people don't often make perfect decisions when reacting in a panic, but I don't think most people would move TOWARDS the danger when supposedly trying to protect themselves

3

u/kaerfkeerg 1d ago

Maybe but he could go to the other side. Panic or not, who would try to leave towards the atv

29

u/Tvelion 2d ago

That guy at the end is walking pretty nonchalantly for having seen this happen. He is either extremely trusting of the helmet and safety equipment, or he's seen this happen a couple of times...

4

u/fafarex 2d ago

or he know that rushing doesn't really do anything.

25

u/Ok_Zookeepergame5141 2d ago

He's going to feel that in a bit.

6

Very lucky. My friends brother was killed when his atv rolled onto him. Those can be heavy.

4

3

3

u/reddawnspawn 2d ago

Similar thing happened when me, my brother and some other guys were pulling into our remote camping spot after spending the day wheeling our jeeps.

About 100 yards away from us were a couple very steep short, dirt runs that led up to the top of the hill (maybe 50 yards - not very tall but very steep) and then had a turn around up top so you could come back down.

A couple guys on 4 wheelers pull up to
It and start egging each other on. One guy attempts it and it catches our attention because he was going pretty fast. He gave up about half way up had a hairy experience driving hos 4 wheel backwards back down to the flat area but did a great job keeping his front wheels facing straight ahead to keep his front and back tires in a straight line .

His buddy takes the challenge and pegged the throttle making it up almost to the top before his wheeler started spinning tires and it started to roll backwards. He panicked, turning his wheels and the wheeler starts a violent tumble down the hill. The driver jumped clear and slid down the hill on his butt.

Meanwhile the 4 wheeler is now doing somersaults, ass over front over and over and the guy the made the earlier attempt decided he’s going f to try to stop step in front of it and stop it somehow.

It crashed into his upper torso and head with incredible force knocking him back about 25 feet sending him head over heels backwards.

We immediately rushed in because his buddies just froze. When we got to him the entire left side of his skull was visible; it had basically de-skinned his scalp, his ear and the skin lining that side of his face and jaw where it had ripped away. It was all clumped up dangling down to his shoulder in a pile but still intact but not in place. His shoulder and clavicle was broken and his arm had a compound fracture.

We told his buddies to call an ambulance BUT THEY REFUSED saying they would take him to a hospital in their truck - which was about 1 miles further down the trail at the parking lot trailhead.

We got his arm and shoulder stabilized and and wrapped his head and face as best we could and watched them load the poor guy on the back of one of the wheeler and go screaming down the trail jostling him all over the place.

It was absolutely crazy. We had several similar incidents over the years where we were bystanders but ended up rendering aid because their buddies froze up.

2

u/sheikahstealth 1d ago

Good on you guys. Heroes, really. Because without you guys there, you never know how people who freeze will react as they are already in panic mode.

2

u/lynivvinyl 2d ago

He already has an ATV why does he need to try to catch another one? The greed of some people I swear.

2

u/FewZookeepergame1083 2d ago

2

u/ThrustTrust 2d ago

Unlike a person falling, don't do this.

1

u/SuspiciousSnotling 2d ago

Because you really don’t want your atv to do more than 5 rolls, it’s the 6th that breaks it

both died as i remember correctly.

how can ppl not think that thru. i mean even if the woman was 20kg. even if the quad was 10kg and half as big.

this is half a ton rolling down with a good amount of speed and force🙈

Watched someone lose the ability to use his legs trying something even less dumb than this. It was on a downhill road and the guy riding it was already sent to fucking space. Don't ever drive a four wheeler on the road with those knobby tires, only like 3"² of surface in contact with the road.
