Imagine 1 stair represented personal wealth of $100k. Fifty percent of Americans are on that stair or lower.
Ten stairs up we reach the second floor of this hypothetical building at a worth of $1m. Something like 98% of Americans have been passed by now.
Keep walking those stairs until you get to the top of Mt. Everest. You have reached $1.45B. So you need to repeat that walk another 492 times to get to Elon Musk’s current wealth of $716B.
Not only did he pay $0 in federal taxes last year, the government gave him billions in taxpayer funds to subsidize his businesses for him. Because for some reason it would be unreasonable to expect the world’s richest man to fund his own ventures.
But he will still go on the news and explain that giving Medicare and Social Security to the Americans sitting on that first step is the real problem with our country.

There is a tariff refund...for corporations...paid by our tax dollars after consumers already paid the markup to corporations covering the tariffs they're getting reimbursed for.

8
u/lastronaut_beepboop Jun 10 '26
If whatever the GOPs plan is, fails, the real solution to keeping SS solvent and funded well into the future is raising the income cap so the wealthy have to pair their fair share.
Doesn't help all the money they've already stolen out of those accounts to begin with though smh

34
u/Hopsblues Jun 09 '26
Sure, but that's an agreement we signed up for that would insure our well being as well. R's are about to just pull that rug out and steal all that money I invested into the system. They bankrupt the system and want to steal from me to take care of their fuck up....sorry but, no!
41
73
u/VoidJuiceConcentrate Jun 08 '26
Nah, they're making these cuts so they can increase military spending.
Which you can't opt out of paying for, as a taxpayer. Fucking infuriating.
25
u/commenter_on_reddit Jun 09 '26
We spent $961.6 billion in 2025 on the military, plus about $120 billion for the intelligence agencies, ICE, and border patrol. The most of any country in the world by so much that you'd have to add together the next 6 highest spending militaries to equal what the USA spends.

I just know theyre able to steal it so easily so why is it so hard to give it to those that need it most? 8
u/byteminer Jun 09 '26
The government isn't going to steal it. They will give it to their biggest donors to "invest" so those people can steal it. "The government" will do it for a minor campaign contribution or a nice motorcoach.

The largest spending item on autopilot is military spending.
It's a good thing (/s) they're trying to silently push a bill to combine the Israeli military with the U.S. military, so that $954 billion annually can be shared with Israel, instead of having those funding bills questioned and denied time and time again.

But that is the definition of entitlement. They are taking away something that you are entitled to, that you have the right to, something that is yours because you paid for it.
They twist words to make it seem like taking it away is a good thing, but they are liars.
Another example is with abortion, equating abortion to “terminating a fully viable baby just because I’m irresponsible“. With entitlement, they are playing on “false sense of entitlement”… which is something negative because it’s false.

Assholes stealing our money. Nice that I’ll be retiring in 10 years, everyone is going to be homeless and starving. May they rot in hell.
16
u/Jamizon1 Jun 08 '26
The answer is simple. Tax the mega ultra rich & corporations at a rate that is acceptable. Return the tax rates to what they were in the late fifties and early sixties. Cutting “entitlement” programs is only going to further piss people off… especially the ones who have paid in their entire life, and are close to retirement (raises hand). We paid in, and you clowns used the funds like a piggy bank for your reckless spending, and shitty fiscal agendas.
The wealth gap is the CLEAR indicator that these clowns have no fucking idea what they’re doing, or how to balance a budget without screwing those at the middle and bottom.
These “costs cutting” measures are easy for these clowns to talk about when they get a pension, and free healthcare while in office.
→ More replies (1)6

→ More replies (4)19
u/TheRealBittoman Jun 08 '26
Probably wasting my time here but here goes... If you actually believe that then you have no idea how SS is run or why it even exists in the first place. This is not tax money that is set aside by the government for freeloaders, in spite of what Republicans have been screaming for 85 years about it. It is a literal account set up for you that logs your working months (represented as credits) and if you work enough consecutive months you are entitled to the funds you put in. The purpose was to help ensure that those who have become disabled enough they are unable to be a wage earner or you are too old to work can remain solvent. Everything else you hear about how SS is collected or doled out is propaganda from bullshit rich people who want you to think it's some kind of free money. Why would they do this? They want that money too but it's them that are not entitled to it. Fight for your money, don't fight for jerks in expensive suits who burn $250 bills to light their $500 cigars on private jet flights to go have lunch in another country. Don't buy their crap, don't listen to what they say, it's only intended to create confusion and arguments at our level to make it easier for them to steal even more from you. There is a reason why Musk and his merry bad of fraudsters walked out with all of the SS data on a physical drive and it's definitely not to protect you or I.

The way entitlement is used and thrown around in media implies opposite. English is not my primary language.
3
u/Parahelix Jun 11 '26
Yeah, the word "entitled" is often used pejoratively to describe someone who expects unearned special treatment. That's why the GOP likes the term. The actual original meaning of entitlement is simply something that you have a legitimate right to.
→ More replies (1)7
u/familiarshadowkatt Jun 08 '26
It is, it's just that conservatives have intentionally twisted the word entitlement from meaning "something that is rightly and legitimately owed" to "something you are demanding without deserving it." They've essentially made "entitlement" (a legal term) and "sense of entitlement" (a colloquial phrase about a psychological state of mind) seem to mean the same thing, even though they do not.

It certainly is. The trick is that entitlement is not a bad word no matter how much the pissant GOP cry about it. We pay into it, we are entitled to that money. Same goes for literally everything our taxes pay for. It is our money, we are entitled to benefit from it.

Is that why we are in trouble? I thought it was because we are being run by the most corrupt this government has ever been in my entire lifetime.

They've been planning this ever since any minority received assistance. Disgusting selfish creatures. Imagine living your entire life wanting everything just to leave this earth with NONE OF IT. They will leave the most crusted skid mark on the planet and cry that poor people are too privileged.
