If only there was something Americans could do... oh well, NBA Finals are on, so whatevs.

Don't worry, FIFA is here to distract people

u/johnaross1990 Jun 05 '26

I’m praying the world cup is going to be an embarrassment

99

u/MichaelJServo Jun 05 '26

I'm boycotting and I hope that we lose to Ghana.

95

u/johnaross1990 Jun 05 '26

I’m English, so obviously I hope “its coming home”

But I want the event to be an absolute fiasco

ICE locking up fans and teams, Donny trying to steal the trophy, the whole shebang

46

u/MichaelJServo Jun 05 '26

Those events are likely.

10

u/johnaross1990 Jun 05 '26

I know bud, but I thought Donny 47 was unlikely to

Edit: my adhd brain misread you 😂

15

u/almostsafe4work Jun 05 '26

donny will expect to get an award for being the MVP of the tournament.

13

u/SillyDingo4881 Jun 05 '26

Everybody is saying he is the best player, never seen anything like it before, he scored 20 goals before the game starts, everyone is telling us its the best world cup ever, winning...so much winning

But without him it would never of happened, and this is a great, some say the greatest, World Cup there’s ever been

3

Oh come on! Qatar was way (ha) cooler...

4

u/vaxhax Jun 05 '26

Well, now I've got the lightning seeds running in my head. "it's coming home"

4

u/johnaross1990 Jun 05 '26

Mate, its the refrain of every fourth summer (except that one time it was in winter) 🤷‍♂️

4

u/shinyfootwork Jun 05 '26

Donny was the recipient of the "FIFA Peace Prize", so I wouldn't be surprised if FIFA has another trophy/award just to give him when he hints at stealing it.

2

u/gavstar69 Jun 06 '26

Here's hoping. Other than the English actually winning part of course. We'd never hear the fucking end of it. Still banging on about 1966 ffs

Primaries are happening this month all over the country, leading up to the Midterms. If only people would remember to vote. If voting didn't work, they wouldn't be working so hard to make sure you don't.

17

u/FakeSafeWord Jun 05 '26

I went to the Kentucky primary (day of) at around 12pm, in a fairly high pop district at what I thought was the most accessible polling place.

I was expecting... and hoping for a significant line.

There were more people working at the polling place than people in there to vote. I was in and out within 15 minutes.

Then the results came out and showed less than 30% of the eligible population voted. Which by percentage of eligible voters is up significantly from previous years.

Unfortunately most of that percentage gain was due to voter role purging reducing the maximum amount of eligible voters from 3.22m to 2.99m

15

u/sapntaps Jun 05 '26

the system is long lost to greed. too many things need changing.

→ More replies (4)

4

u/TheVog Jun 05 '26

Not necessarily. It just means they have to work harder to fudge the results if it doesn't go their way. They'd rather not do that, or give themselves a wide enough margin via fudging ahead of time.

Dont worry, they will do what they do best. Claim they will act if their orange does X, then when he does X they will bow their heads and sit down, saying they dont want to escalate, but will definitely act if he does Y, and repeat over and over again as he dismantles all their mcFreedomtm and "democracy."

32

u/TheBSQ Jun 05 '26

The US system makes it really hard to remove people. You need like 2/3 of the reps to support it. But our system also gives disproportionate power to rural people.

So, what happens if you can have many many millions of people in the cities who hate what’s happening, but everyone who represents them in govt is already in their side & doesn’t like what’s happening either.

But to do anything, you need rural people to change how they vote.  Every now and then they get mad about some policy, like tariffs hurting their farming businesses, but Trump usually just writes them checks. And culturally, they’re often more conservative, xenophobic, etc. so even if they do dislike Trump they don’t want to side with the left who they disagree with on many cultural & social issues.

And they don’t give a shit if there’s protests or riots in the cities. They don’t care about the cities. They’d probably laugh & eat popcorn if the cities burned down in anger.

You could have every one of the 40 million people in California wanting Trump gone, but it doesn’t matter. The electoral change that needs to happen has to come from rural voters in rural states.

So like, it fucking sucks, but wait it out, or hope rural farmers thousands of kilometers from me wake up and realize he’s bad.

But even then, the people in govt that need to change have six year terms and we stagger their elections, so you need to wait 4 years for someone of them to even be on the ballot, at which point, Trump’s term should already be over.

It’s why no president has ever been removed from office against their will except via death.

And our system makes it even harder to change the rules. So changing the shitty rules to make it easier to remove him is even a tougher task.

Plus, we have judicial supremacy which means ultimately the courts can rig the scales. And the highest court in the land is on his side.

And they have lifetime appointments so that’s not changing either.

So, what’s left? Revolution & civil war?  Easy for outsiders to say, in a society where one of the key differences is stances in guns and you’re on the “the vast majority of us don’t own or use guns” side vs the “we have tons of guns and practice with them all time” pushing towards internal violence seems like a dumb course of action.

6

u/Trumpisanorangebitch Jun 05 '26

Rural voters are not that powerful. Dems could lose every single one and still win the electoral college.

The swing states that decide the presidential election are mostly urban and suburban people. Were not getting enough of those people fullstop. Small states going red dont matter. Small groups of rural voters in swing states going red wouldnt matter if we did better in urban and suburban areas.

Ultimately Im all for a balkanization of the United States. The right shouldnt get to run their states intot he ground and get welfare from blue states. Lets end this charade and divorce these states and let the right drive their states into the ground.

2

u/Egonomics1 Jun 06 '26

The US won't balkanize. It'll be much, much messier. For the most part, ethnic, religious, and political groups are more overlapped and intersected than Yugoslavia.

6

u/PoppinKreamsCrush Jun 05 '26

If you were a slave, and I was your master, and the only way for you to get free is to pick up that rock and beat me over the head with it; what would you do?

6

u/Wonderful_Round_6395 Jun 05 '26

I understand what you're saying, but we're talking about a government that has mass surveillance and advanced weapons. This is very different than a one-on-one with a rock.

The kind of war Americans would have to wage on their corrupt government to see an end to their harm, is essentially the road of martyrdom.

I can totally understand why they wouldn’t want to sell their only island to a bunch of corrupt nutcases who are just developing it for foreign millionaires.

101

u/peanutspump Jun 05 '26

I feel like it crosses an unspoken (because it’s a given) etiquette line that’s pretty universally accepted. Like, people don’t name their babies Adolph anymore, unless they’re legitimately Nazis. Developing your own Epstein billionaire private island should be socially taboo, for at least a while… Jesus does nobody have standards anymore.

41

u/Training_Ruin3151 Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

You're asking for standards from people who traffic babies, torture and rape them to death, then eat them and dissolve the corpses in acid... So.. No?

40

u/CheezyGoodness55 Jun 05 '26

Americans could definitely pick up a few pointers from other countries on how to more effectively protest.

16

u/Snoo_17771 Jun 05 '26

Agreed, although according to "conspiracy theories" our lack of motivation is engineered. Similar to quaaludes being introduced to south Africa. Seeds have been sown to grow apathy, hopelessness, and submission and have succeeded since crack was introduced to black communities by the CIA.

7

u/worldspawn00 Jun 05 '26

More like Roger Ailes, Rupert Murdoch and other billionaires buying up media to manufacture consent. It's not that complicated, and it's out in the open... Clear Channel media and other right wing radio networks poisoned the rural communities, and Fox news has rotted the brains of the elderly.

https://theweek.com/articles/880107/why-fox-news-created

In 1970, political consultant Roger Ailes and other Nixon aides came up with a plan to create a new TV network that would circumvent existing media and provide "pro-administration" coverage to millions.

They also push the 'both sides are the same' and 'your vote doesn't matter' sentiments (assisted by politicians ensuring partisan gerrymandering and various systems of voter disenfranchisement stay in-place), which are wildly successful at encouraging half the country to stay home on election day, combined with blinding the public to the massive misdeeds of the Republicans, right wing networks, and their donors, makes a great recipe for convincing the average American that there's nothing/no need to protest.

2

u/illy-chan Jun 05 '26

I mean, it's only a conspiracy theory when you don't have "Flood the Zone" on record. And the systematic dismantling of the working class's ability to both strike and survive. Declawing the unions...

2

u/foodforestranger Jun 05 '26

Americans... always an excuse to be lazy.

7

u/Training_Ruin3151 Jun 05 '26

Minnesotans deciding to do yoga in frog costumes is the best way to protest after three of them were shot to death🤦🤦🤦 this country is beyond cooked brochacho

4

u/WhizBangNeato Jun 05 '26

The second a protest anything actually disruptive it becomes demonized in the US.

Block traffic? Congratulations youre the bad guy now.

Republicans and republicans voters still think Minneapolis is a war zone because one police station got burned down 6 years ago

2

u/jellyfishzigs Jun 05 '26

As an American who has been protesting and fighting the good fight for most of my adulthood. I have grown up and seen countless Americans (including children) lose their lives during protests, police/ice brutality, or general gun violence. Millions of people have protested in the last few months for the “No kings” protest and every single state participated in it. Families have been split in half due to political divide or torn apart because of ice arrests. There are so many people out there standing up for what’s right. Everything is skewed and manipulated by news, politicians, propaganda. Our economy is in shambles, public services are being dismantled, education is being dismantled, people are losing jobs, it’s getting tough for families to make it. We also have foreign bots spreading disinformation constantly polluting things. Not all of us, but a large portion of us really are trying to do what we can against people who are truly the most powerful financially, and are technologically advanced on a global level not just on a national level. It comforts me to see other countries succeeding where we struggle due to violence and I don’t see myself on another side, if I could be there with them I would.

5

u/ToeRoganIsJebus Jun 05 '26

Lol going to a one day organized protest with rules you have to follow does absolutely jack shit. You would have accomplished the exact same thing if everybody stayed home and sat on their couches on those days.

Meanwhile they’re building data centers that are destroying whole communities stateside and nobody bats an eye too many people are apathetic about it and can’t be bothered to get out in the streets.

It’s crazy to see the difference in responses to fuckery from other countries. We Americans should be taking notes.

Edit:

I’m aware of the protests such as No Kings stateside. Those are heavily organized and planned months ahead of time.

Seems like these protests are more spontaneous. I could be wrong though.

There have been massive protests in the US, but it seems only on a local level. They are having an effect though and that's what matters. The public mood in the US is becoming more and more anti AI.

22

u/Shadow293 Jun 05 '26

Apparently you haven’t been paying enough attention…

16

u/tacticalcraptical Jun 05 '26

More people should care, no doubt but to say nobody here bats and eye is not accurate. I live in Utah the backlash against Kevin O'leary's obscenely large data center has been immense.

So far we've gotten him to talking about reducing the size by 80% and hopefully we can stop it completely.

6

u/topsblueby Jun 05 '26

Fair point. I should’ve chose better wording.

12

u/Terry-Scary Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

Albania is the size of New Jersey

2.13 million people live in Albania which is about 70% less.

When we look at size comparison of what kushner wants to destroy, it is equivalent to saying that space took up .02% or 1/5000th of albanias land

Looking at the US that would be like saying kushner wants to destroy all of Houston Texas or the island of Maui Hawaii to build

My point is you really compare two countries without taking a crack at first finding a common denominator

6

u/topsblueby Jun 05 '26

Great point. I imagine if it were a 1:1 scale then the amount of backlash they received here would be far greater than it actually is

20

u/Fun-Rice-9438 Jun 05 '26

You are 100% forgetting Minnesota where we had weeks of peaceful spontaneous protest during metro surge, many were and are still be injured and kidnapped.

Its sounds more like you need to learn something and get active with what other Americans are doing

5

u/topsblueby Jun 05 '26

I haven’t forgotten. My point is that the protests happen, the largest of which are planned and organized, then we go back to business as usual immediately after without exacting any substantial change. The powers that be just wait it out while also giving their goons a chance to flex their muscles beating on civilians with no fear of consequences.

What I’ve seen from other recent protests in France and Italy and now Albania is a willingness by the people to send the whole country up, which is 100% not happening right now anywhere in America. I live in Chicago and went to No Kings. It was cool, made national news and then that was it. Still got a wanna be king doing literally whatever the hell he wants.

2

u/Miltrivd Jun 05 '26

Yeah, people in the US literally do not know what the point of protests is. Sidewalk protesting in a separate space is not protesting.

Is the constant disruption and the threat of violence (they don't need to be violent, but the force of numbers needs to be present), it's showing thousands willing to step up. Slowly organized, set dates and tame protests go against the bit of power they have.

It's almost like they are intentionally made to be performative and non effective.

I'm sure there have been proper protests but it doesn't seem to be the rule.

1

u/tehlemmings Jun 05 '26

Literally everyone keeps saying this, and not a single one of you ever suggest any real ideas for how we could actually accomplish that without any help with communication, logistics, or money.

If you have an actual idea, like something actually usable, please share. I'm literally begging you right now, tell us how to accomplish this without help on communication, logistics, or the money needed to feed everyone. Hell, solve even one of the problems and you'll be a fucking hero.

3

u/Miltrivd Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

Have you tried looking at any other country that does protests properly? Do you think they have some organized spreadsheet that tells people what to do?

The problem isn't logistics or money, it's the rotted brain that wants change without sacrifice.

Going out to protests every day means they are missing work, putting themselves in danger and understanding that change need to happen and it's more important than maintaining status quo.

Wanting change without losing anything is what holds you back, money and logistics for fucking protesting? You want to be paid and moved into your designated protesting space?

Change in the face of injustice won't happen in a cushioned, carefully planned way because the carefully planned way is what created the injustice in the first place.

When I was a student I was missing class, risking to be expelled and the cops getting too aggressive (which happened every time against pacific protests). When older I was risking getting fired and the fucking cops again. Now we got a fascist wannabe here elected by 60% of the population and it will be the fucking cops being the major risk again.

8

u/BringBackAoE Jun 05 '26

Doesn’t seem to be reported in US, but the reasons for the protests are twofold:

  1. It’s a national park; and
  2. There are strong indications the deal was “motivated” by corruption.

Some MPs are demanding criminal investigations of corruption.

If investigations are not conducted then it is likely to hinder / postpone Albania’s admission to EU.

This is undoubtedly what Kushner’s buddy / boss Putin wants.

Depends, their next objective may be Yemen to "fight" the houthis but they are a little too far away... for now, so they may finish invading the Druze lands in Syria once they have destroyed everything worthwhile in southern Lebanon.

u/ButcherBird57 Jun 05 '26

Go Albania! 🥲

5

u/Kind_Disaster_4639 Jun 05 '26

Let the world know the name Trump is a trigger for greed and corruption. Albania "show the world how you fight back". POWER TO ALBANIA 👍🙏

4

u/2REPOU Jun 05 '26

The US needs to protest like this daily to show the current dictator that it will not be accepted

4

u/helusjordan Jun 05 '26

This really opened my eyes to how nonchalant US Citizens are about all of the horrors happening here at home. Albanians are showing up and protesting a development project in numbers meanwhile out democracy is crumbling and we do almost nothing....

4

u/DesignerStatus Jun 05 '26

Only if this type unity existed in America. Good for em

5

u/SaharaDweller Jun 05 '26

That fucking family is a bane on humanity

4

u/raejck1 Jun 05 '26

More power to them.

22

u/EnvironmentalFix7059 Jun 05 '26

The fuck does Kushner have to do with Albania???

55

u/Organic_Witness345 Jun 05 '26

Glad you asked. Kushner is facing major protests and legal scrutiny over a proposed $1.4 billion luxury resort on Sazan Island and a $4.7 billion development in Zvërnec. The Albanian Prime Minister is defending the project, one might reasonably guess, because of the types of favors a major real estate developer extends to individuals involved with managing the regulation of said projects. Environmental destruction and alleged property fraud are the cited reasons for the protests, but I think it’s reasonable to assume that Albanians, and global citizens in general, are just exhausted by the blatant corruption they’re exposed to in their daily lives.

Jared and Ivanka can try to run from the shadow of their involvement with Donald Trump - not to mention Kushner’s ridiculously corrupt $2b “investment deal” that magically materialized just days after leaving the first Trump administration - but they can’t hide. Not even in Albania.

u/crispy_attic Jun 05 '26

The Trumps are not good people. Their supporters are not good people either. This is how we got here.

23

u/TuringGPTy Jun 05 '26

Some might say they’re deplorable.

6

u/crispy_attic Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

Trump was their response to Obama and Harris. “The dumbest of us is better than the smartest of you.”

White supremacy and its supporters are the biggest problem here and have been for centuries.

2

u/TuringGPTy Jun 05 '26

The dumb part is mostly a result of how bad the white supremacy part was allowed to fester.

Right wing politicians and pundits spent the last century pushing white supremacy and Christian nationalism utilizing double standards and weaponized hypocrisy to demonize anything left leaning.

The same people defending the ‘no new wars’ President bombing foreign countries were the same people demanding you ‘love it or leave’ if you weren’t frothing at the mouth to bomb the Middle East. Blowback for thee, not for me.

13

u/EnvironmentalFix7059 Jun 05 '26

Thank you for a proper answer

3

u/DoughDisaster Jun 05 '26

Thanks for the article. Reading it, it looks like their leader doesn't give two shits about the protests and will likely push through on the deal regardless. The Prime Minister, Edi Rama, said “There is absolutely no chance that the investment will stop as long as I am here.” On Tuesday.

Also of note, this paragraph

Alarm, he said, had spiralled into public outrage when workmen began erecting a concrete-based, barbed wire-topped fence around the site near Zvërnec, installed a private security firm to protect it and heavy machinery started decimating ancient dunes and Mediterranean pine forests to clear the way for access roads.

Such measures suggest the from the outset, the people in charge knew there would be public backlash, and have already taken steps to put in place measures against the public being able to get on site and interfere with the development.

There was an interview with Ivanka where she talks about it

5

u/EnvironmentalFix7059 Jun 05 '26

Usually id say i would look it up but I dont think I want to listen to a ivanka interview if im gonna be honest haha

4

u/echino_derm Jun 05 '26

It is as bad as you would imagine. She talks about it like she is some brave enlightened genius entrepreneur. But also kind of fucked up how she is referring to it as a private island when it was not a private island, it was actually designated as a park open for the public of Albania prior to her daddy pulling strings.

2

u/wannabe_inuit Jun 05 '26

Yeah no I get it. It was making rounds on reddit recently and thats the only reason i know

8

u/onrake Jun 05 '26

Why can't we get this going in the U.S.?

23

u/liptoniceteabagger Jun 05 '26

Because unlike Albania; 1/3 of US citizens don’t think Jared Kushner is a piece of shit and believe his father in law is Jesus reincarnate.

We stand with the people of Albania!!

5

u/IvorTheEngineDriver Jun 05 '26

It would be a shame if the protesters began making their signs out of quarter-inch-thick plywood to stop rubber bullets, forming a tight shield wall to prevent police from singling out and mobbing individual protesters. It would be a shame if the people behind the shield wall held up umbrellas so that tear gas canisters fired over their heads on the front line will be bounced away.

It would be a shame if protesters began constructing improvised armor vests out of duct tape, hard-backed books, and ceramic tiles. It would be a shame if protesters started wearing safety glasses, hard hats, respirators, and gardening gloves, all of which can be found at the same hardware stores as the plywood. It would be a shame if they started using traffic cones (the kind without the hole in the top), upside down buckets, or other improvised lids to contain teargas by placing them over the canisters. All of this would be a terrible, terrible shame.

*It would be an awful shame if you copied and pasted this, so that they couldn't delete the original and all linked posts (again).

**An even worse shame would be to start donating these items to protesters.

u/Great-Gas-6631 Jun 05 '26

Kush is just waitin on Bibi to declare that "Albania almost has nukes!".

3

u/GeorgeJetsonsBoss Jun 05 '26

So funny watching Ivanka explain it like it wasn’t pilfered and then a day later this. She is evil.

7

u/Suitable-Sense-6962 Jun 05 '26

Why are we not doing this on the US!

9

u/ceilingsfann Jun 05 '26

we have…many times…

5

u/chankra75 Jun 05 '26

Left and right together! You guys can do it! The whole world is counting on you guys!

3

u/DoubtSubstantial5440 Jun 05 '26

I mean lets be real here, outside of local protests, Americans aren’t going to do this as long as the walmart stays open and they can buy their creature comforts on credit they can’t afford

5

u/ceilingsfann Jun 05 '26

The estimated attendance of the last No Kings protest was 8 million people. That’s 3x the *total* population of Albania.

5

u/Nuzzleface Jun 05 '26

A protest planned months in advance with a designated end time is not really a protest.

The people in power will just wait it out. You need to do it all the time until you get results.

4

u/_0611 Jun 05 '26

NO TRUMP RESORTS IN EUROPE!

The whole Trump crime family should be banned from doing business anywhere in Europe. It warms my heart to see Albanians protest this. Gives a man hope.

2

u/Internal-Airport8822 Jun 05 '26

Albanian mafia is a thing. Peace to the regular folk.

2

u/GeneralEagle Jun 05 '26

lol deal is done. Citizens are pawns. The world is owned by .05%

2

u/valiantlight2 Jun 05 '26

surely Jared isnt the important part that they are protesting against.... why not give a clue about the actual problem in the title instead of only political bias?

2

u/Carinmyeye Jun 05 '26

Keep going!! 👏👏👊💪🤘

2

u/dgtjen Jun 05 '26

Wow 😮 Great job, Albania!

2

u/JubBisc Jun 05 '26

Holy shit! Awesome!

2

u/Glittering-Mix-5181 Jun 05 '26

Many blessings for the people of Albania!

2

u/bleachmartini Jun 05 '26

American here if you're an Albanian and reading this do everything you can to keep these demons away from your land. Nothing, and I mean nothing good will come of it, just more hardships to you. Fuck these people

2

u/Confident-Break-5117 Jun 05 '26

What happened to all the wannabe Luigis?

2

u/hesawavemasterrr Jun 05 '26

Make sure that thing never gets built. And then salt the earth it’s trying to build on.

2

u/aligera1 Jun 05 '26

Bien 👍

Por Albania

2

u/cruisin_urchin87 Jun 05 '26

Wonder why American doesn’t General Strike over this kind of behavior. This makes us look like assholes, like killing 160 Iranian children in an unprovoked attack.

2

u/68024 Jun 05 '26

Understandable, I wouldn't want to do business with a criminal family either

2

u/foreign_exchange10 Jun 05 '26

This is a beautiful thing…can these trumps and kushners please fcuk off!?

2

u/Wilsanne Jun 05 '26

Where's the outrage, America?

2

u/Clean-Reveal-2878 Jun 05 '26

I can hear Ivanka in her pretentious voice telling her kids “daddy and grandpa have a lot of power in the world and have to make difficult decisions.”

2

u/Zbgoast Jun 05 '26

I can't help but feel embarrassed when you compare this to the "No Kings Protests"

2

u/Adam684 Jun 05 '26

Meanwhile in America ... 🦗

2

u/Eeyanz Jun 05 '26

Hitler had the Olympics and now Trump has Soccer World Cup. Oh the parallels.

3

u/Relevant-Gold-3917 Jun 05 '26

Go Albanians - no more tyranny from Putin’s pals the Trumps-

3

u/Mean_Breakfast_4081 Jun 05 '26

Fuck em up, Albania!

2

u/Round-Foundation2948 Jun 05 '26

Tell the Orange Turd to send memo alerting Kushner to faq out of Albania 🇦🇱- He can live out his days in the country where he’s truly loved 🥰 U.S.A. The Trump last name is sooooooo tarnished. What the faq are they thinking? 🤔/s
