I imagine it is quite hard to makes these movements without spilling the water in those cups. Seems like that would actually help his balance am mobility like he claims. Is everything we don't understand bullshido now?!

u/naturalharmonic 21h ago
Thank you. I don't think this guy is planning on tea-cupping anyone to death or purporting himself to be a master of Tea Kwan Do or anything. This is for mobility and flexibility and enjoying the morning weather.

u/CalicoCrony 21h ago
The teacup is a great shoulder mobility exercise when done properly. This guy is doing it properly for the most part despite how fruity he looks lol. My main critique is he should be attempting to lift the cup towards the center of his back when the cup is behind him.

u/Zealousideal_Bet_248 19h ago
See, you can't use it to punch someone's teeth in, so we don't like it. Uga uga
4
u/joeker7669 17h ago
Right. Itâs probably a balance and spatial awareness practice thing. I think itâs pretty cool even if it isnât.

Itâs also a cultural dance in the Philippines. Not sure if this is even about fighting or whatever
1
u/lucaskywalker 18h ago
I don't think the person taking the video says it was, he said mobility. But I can see how balance and flexibility can help you fight better.

u/tumbleytumbleweed 17h ago
He did spill all the water. Look at the ground, itâs wet as hell.
1
u/lucaskywalker 10h ago
I did not say he was doing it well, only that the exercise is legit. Do we make fun of a fat guy on a treadmill here too?
-1
u/i-like--whales 21h ago
I'm pretty sure just doing some basic yoga would be more beneficial though.
3
u/lucaskywalker 18h ago
My point is he is not claiming this is some magic martial arts technique, it's just balance and flexibility. So NOT bullshido.
1
u/i-like--whales 17h ago
Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you. Just saying yoga would be MORE beneficial than this.

On must remove all thoughts to embrace true enlightenment.
Also, you seem cranky. Hope your day gets better.

u/Zealousideal_Bet_248 19h ago
Dude, you got a pretty good burn. Best move is to acknowledge it and move on. Can't comeback from that
1
u/Security-fish 19h ago
If I needed a comeback I'd scrape it off your mom.
2
u/Zealousideal_Bet_248 19h ago
See. That's a good one too
1
u/Security-fish 19h ago
It honestly felt like you activated a trapcard I've had waiting since middle school.
2
u/Zealousideal_Bet_248 17h ago
And now you understand. The other person wasn't cranky. They just saw a chance and took it. Like they said, light jab

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 19h ago
It was just a light jab, no crankiness
My day is going just fine for an everage thursday in the final days here at the end of the world, but I guess it could always get better

Some people think the only important part of martial arts is striking and grappling techniques, ignoring the spiritual/mental and physical health aspects of martial arts. Bullshido is wrong and problematic in multiple ways, but it's important to be discerning as to what is and isn't bullshido

u/MadeInTheUniverse 19h ago
I see old people in their 80's doing tai chi and looking very mobile. In the mean time i have friends in their mid 30s who have joint complaints so this isnt bullshido for me

u/unwitting_hungarian 21h ago
Yeah, the variety of videos he's published make it clear it's not really Mc-anything, just TMA-style practice

Probably a great exercise for your rotator cuff. Rotator cuff injuries are no joke
1
u/epicnaenae17 16h ago
I tore mine playing hockey as a 14-15 year old. Couldnât move my arm from the shoulder for a month due to the pain. Then when the pain went away, I didnt have the physical strength in my arm to raise my arm above shoulder height, super weird feeling to be so weak you cant move a basic body part.

u/My_Fish_Is_a_Cat 21h ago

This is a great way to maintain joint and nerve health. It has similar benefits to yoga. Youâll notice that many elite soldiers in Tier one units do yoga to maintain flexibility and fine motor control these days. It came to light when a few of them were seen doing contortionist levels of positioning while sniping off a simulated house roof during a competition. They do everything it takes to gain the advantage. They won of course.

I feel like a lot of people in the martial arts community seem to have the idea that if something doesn't let you hurt people, then it's useless to you. There are plenty of other reasons someone would engage in this practice
1
1
u/EL-HEARTH 18h ago
This is actually a healthy exersize. A working martial art technique? Probably not, but definetly good to train coordination and balance
1
u/aware4ever 18h ago
Imagine having a beautiful place like that to meditate and do yoga exercise etc. What a beautiful place. That reminds me of Karate Kid when he goes to miyagi's house

u/Miao_Yin8964 17h ago
It's cultural appropriation, at best.
At worst.... it's hypnotic like watching a lava lamp

I mean itâs a bit odd to be doing it around a makeshift makiwara and heâs not gaining much with the water cups there besides watering the ground but all that aside it is still technically a mobility exerciseâŚ

Mobility, mind/muscle connection, mindfulness, balance. Bro is working on the spiritual cultivation aspect of his martial art.
I've got more respect for him having the discipline to do this everyday than the haters.

I mean, this dude is fairly trim - fitter looking than most guys his age. Bit goofy looking, but I donât see faulting him for that.
3
u/unwitting_hungarian 21h ago
Exactly...my buddy lost 50kgs and can do 20 pull-ups, but he still has the handles. I tell him not to worry about it but he would never post a shirtless video online

1
u/BobbyBsBestie 22h ago
To be fair, they don't fully go away after weight loss, so he could've actually put in the work to get fitter and shouldn't be knocked for that. Otherwise this man is a fool.

u/Takemyfishplease 22h ago
Honestly if this is some beginner just starting out itâs not that bad. Like first timer at the park doing tai chi.
Edit- Nvm he is. âProâ.

If you put this kind of shit on the Internet and you aren't doing so in the same sarcastic perspective as the great Master Ken then there is something broken inside you and you don't realize it.

u/Lucid_Dreamer_98 21h ago
You know, I was thinking of defending the guy because maybe he's just doing some random warmup in the morning who cares. But it looks so goofy and questionable like what is this even meant to achieve? So I have to agree this is some prime McDojo.
