Dancing salsa with Hypermobility
Anyone in the same boat? I have fallen in love with salsa, but it has destroyed my body. Finally got the diagnosis that I have hypermobile joints, which explains the excessive amount of injuries that I have been through in the last year. I would love if someone had some advice to give on how to protect shoulders and knees, as these are my main problems right now... (I dance mainly as follow but also as lead)

Getting stronger helps a lot! Do specific little exercises throughout the day when you have a second. ankle, elbow, shoulder, etc.
keep your joints engaged while you dance; don’t ever lock or fully extend a joint. Keep your arms most at 90 degree angles.

If I’m being led into something that feels bad, I DO NOT follow. Oh, that was going to be a hammerlock? Ah, well now it isn’t.

Slidey shoes (on the balls of the foot) - turning will hurt knees if your body turns and your foot drags.
Never straighten knee, can't bend the wrong way.
Good luck
