MAPPA got to animate something with their own consent instead of slaving away. That's the difference, and you know each of them cried just like Fujimoto when making that master piece of a movie.

It’s always nice to get a new official illustration since the manga ended; it’s all we have left.

seeing mappa continue to do this shows they value reze more than fuji ever did. even if part 2 is animated (and if it is, I won't watch it since I think part 2 was awful, especially the ending), I pray they at least let us know her fate and do her justice onward.

Huh? Why not? Idgaf about the ending,I have to see Aging Devil, then they can do whatever they want.

I am really curious about how I will feel about the ending in a few years after it gets animated. I have already grown fond of many deatils that I just didn't notice at firt and there is a lot of stuff I managed to make sense off, even if I am overall still disappointed.

u/IllCalendar47 2h ago
Anime pacing with some extra scenes will probably make it a lot better.

Yeah, I really think so. There is just so mich going on in the ending that it is kind of overwhelming. I just noticed a few days ago that every single line Denji says is inspired by people he knew like Aki or Reze, showing how they still influenced him and helping make Asa‘s line make a lot more sense. The hug is amazing, reflecting how hugs were a constant theme from the very first chapter and the significance of Denji letting go of it was lost on me for a long time, it really is bitter sweet. I guess I took this long, because the ending came just as such a surprise and because I had my own ideas how I wanted things to go.

I don't even think Fujimoto knows this

I actually think he planned a lot (not everything though, especially when it came to minor characters like Yoshida). He went for something personal and experimental and it didn‘t work out perfectly, but I guess I take it over something boring like most other shonen. But that is personal taste.
1
u/PracticalShock4109 2h ago
Denji's inclusion definitely wasn't planned which is why there's this experimental feel to it
1
u/IllCalendar47 1h ago
Denji's inclusion wasn't planned? He's the literal MC and the sole reason why we even had part 2,Fuji wanted Denji to lose his identity of being Chainsaw Man,he likes the trope where The hero loses his heroic identity in the end, which is what he did.

Didn't feel like it to me honestly , felt like the story was going somewhere else with Asa and Yoru and then he came back and it started getting pretty messy , also when did Fujimoto state this , do you have a source ? I know about the whole " he doesn't like it when the mc and love interest get together " thing but this is entirely new to me

Really , like what ?

I could write pages because its so much, bit its all details. Overall, I am still nit happy, but I apprechiate some stuff.
Some of the things I like are:
- every line Denji says is a reference to people in his past, like Pochita, Reze and Aki, showing how they still had an impact on him (that also makes Asa's thank you csm-line make more sense). We see little of Denji, but he has obviously grown as a person while some habits still remain.
- the thank you csm-line: yeah its dorky, but it makes sense. Pochita has always erased memories, not emotions (see my previous point), and we know through nuclear bombs that there are other ways to bring concepts back appart from pochita vomiting the out again. The hug reminded Asa of csm saving her. Its enough to bring a sleeping pochita back. This way she saves both Denji (from his heart disease) and csm (who can now watch his dreams again without interfering), just as she always wanted (even if her reasons for wanting to save him were complex, just like Denji's wish for sex). Denji saves her from tripping and killing Bucky after she just opened up to her classmates as well, alliwing her to grow into a more open person (as seen immediatly after when she plays soccer)
- the hug: hugs played an important role in csm again and again, Makima hugged Denji in the first chapter in a cold and calculating way, only seeing Pochita. Asa and Denji hug by accident, both clearly feeling a lot of emotions, but this time Denji lets go. He finally learned to move on (even speaking about how he wanted to go to school in past tense, which is one of many little deatils that broke my heart once I realized).
There is a lot more and I didn't even talk about the previous chapters and the significanye of Yoru loving Denji without hus csm-persona (literary making it meld away) and both Asa and Denji accepting their bad parts (parent killers, etc) and so much more.
There is just so much messy stuff going on, and in a way I apprechiate how it being messy makes it feel real, but at the other hand its just too much for those few chapters.
Its not what I wanted, but I can apprechiate it a lot more today, even if many problems are still there of course.

Yoru doesn't love Denji and i'm convinced she's only playing him for two reasons :
a)Denji makes Asa unstable and lean more toward Yoru's nature as a person (chapter 200 is the perfect example)which is why she throws herself at him or tries to advance because it gives her a wider opening to take agency of Asa's body
b)By keeping Denji close there's the whole turning him into a weapon thing but to.do that she has to understand him , same with Asa which she admits to her so to refine a weapon Yoru has to place herself into the shoes of the person or get an idea of how they tick

I don‘t think Yoru is good at manipulating people like that. She foes love him. But she constantly shifts her priorities and her love is of course unhealthy for Denji.
She loves him fir who he is at this point, which is in all honestly a pathetic, guild-ridden, mentaly unstable person who she loves to see cry, while Asa wants him to grow and think for himself.
There is a lot going on with Asa‘s character and her past as well. She constantly wants to sacrifice herself even at the beginning of the story. That is, that when it cones to the scene of her consenting, her consent only means, that she is willing to sleep with him to make Denji feel better and to stop Yoru from destroying everything while fighting him. Denji would have regretted it after finding out, increasing his guilt, just like after Nayuta‘s death and many more times in p2.
Yoru woukd have ruined everything again, but not by purposefully manipulating like Makima, but because its just in her nature as a devil. She probably didn‘t see any problem wuth Asa‘s dubious consent and ruining Denji‘s mental health even more, not even wasting a thought about it.

Denji isn't that difficult to fool , by advancing sexually , Yoru has him in her pockets but by keeping him close through Asa it gives her a better window into him and like i said Denji destabilizes Asa pretty frequently and makes her sort of tilt toward a Yoru-ish trait which gives her a bigger opening of taking agency of Asa's body

u/WeirdAgile 1h ago edited 1h ago
I don‘t think it is difficult to fool Denji, or rather, he is so desperate for affection that he doesn‘t care about how evil and manipulative the person offering it obviously is.
I just think, that Yoru herself is to emotional at this point to really act calculating like that. She just does, what she feels like and enjoys every second of it. And at this point of time, she really does love Denji and wants to sleep with him, while still tüdetesting csm. This might change in a few days or even hours. She is a very impulsive chracter, becoming more impulsive the more powerful she gets.

you know they can take some creative liberties in improving part 2, right?
3
u/PracticalShock4109 2h ago
Not as many as i'm hoping probably
1
u/FlipOzzy 2h ago
yeah they probably won't rewrite the whole story, but they can change the pacing, add some original anime-only scenes that gives the characters more breathing room, and even improve the ending's closure with an epilogue maybe
1
u/Massive_Salt_8838 1h ago
pretty sure they might, in a few years at most. now I for one won't watch it, part 2 was awful, as was the ending, since it takes away all the sacrifices many made (aki, power, himeno, nayuta), as well as leaving tons of unanswered questions or resolved plot points due to fuji's lack of care for his cast.

u/PracticalShock4109 1h ago
Thanks to the Reze arc , Mappa will probably be motivated to get part 2 started as early as 2028
