the smile of a man who just fell into lava and doesn't have to panic. honestly keep inventory removes like 90% of the tension from the game, but it's so hard to go back once you've played with it on.

I'd say it's good to have if you just want to have some casual fun.

I keep it on for my creative world where I just want to build, but survival feels hollow with it.

survival on a structureless flat world without keep inventory on would just be tedious. most of my time at this point is spent landscaping and building mountains. its 100% survival, but keep inventory is on.

that's a different beast, basically hardcore creative mode. I get it for massive terraforming projects where the grind is the point, not the danger.

it removes tension but I don't play minecraft for the tension so its staying on

Makes sense. I keep it on for my redstone test world, it's nice not having to corpse run every time a piston misfires.

Your LLMs haven't been using punctuation?

u/Throwaway_Burner1297 4h ago

i dont use llms and using punctuation is normal like i see people do it here all the time. the comment, to me at least doesnt read like a bot. could just be me though.

Well, LLMs are great at punctuation, often using it more than we do.

Here's some hints to the AI aspects: "corpse run every time a piston misfires" containing slightly abstract language (first time I've heard a minecraft player say 'corpse run,' but not unusual enough that I'd say anything unless it was near another weird thing), and pointing to an oddly specific and not very relevant cause of death. also "misfires" is weird because nearly no minecraft player would say "misfires" but more something like "the contraption blew up," pistons just cannot misfire and AI makes mistakes like that. also not a common enough cause of death to include after "every time."

LLMs have a very distinct way of writing (for now). I use LLMs a lot (mostly to learn coding) so sometimes I notice a few bits of this style.

another one of it's comment contained "that's a different beast, basically hardcore creative mode." again, starting with a metaphor (which is normal until it's paired with something else) and then rephrasing what the user said in an attempt to sound slightly novel.

Now, it's possible that they're real, but if so their style HIGHLY resembles AI. Sometimes, when someone uses too much AI, they start sounding like it (there might be studies on this, it's a pretty wild thing).

It's because you don't die when a piston 'misfires' in Minecraft. LLMs don't tend to understand Minecraft logic very well

Smile of a man who doesn’t loose interest in the game when he has to grind out all his gear again after loosing it

u/thehelplessrendition 9h ago

I get it, I just miss the adrenaline rush of almost losing everything. Both ways have their place honestly.

u/Strange_Kiwi__ 9h ago

Agreed.

I respect everyone who plays with it off, but if I play without it my motivation to keep playing is entirely lost within a week or two.

I can't have any fun with it anymore since it removes any challenge.

Also removes 90% of the fun, the tension makes it fun atleast for me, but minecraft is a sandbox game

Keep inventory is effective from prevents people quitting the game cause of random death

I don't mind dropping items on death. The biggest thing I don't like is that I only have 5 minutes to retrieve my items before they despawn.

As a creative only player, keep inventory is the one reason why I still visit my survival world once a year

u/F1r3dot3x3 9h ago

Keep inventory is overhated

u/BobithanBobbyBob 5h ago

I rahe quit after losing all of my stuff I spent hours getting so I just leave keep inventory on. Also I suck at the game so I die a lot

i really wish it wasn't a cheat on console

I thought they were gonna make it not a cheat awhile back

1

u/BlobbyBlueberry slimer of bots, 31st battalion 10h ago

They did, but they changed it back like immediately after.

6

u/KibbloMkII 10h ago

the fuck was the point of changing it anyway then

u/0oDADAo0 8h ago

Have keep inventory on until youre good enough to have it off, its very stupid to continuously go back and forth between the place you die if you die very often, it means nothing and only waste you time

1

u/SplashB95 7h ago

Nowadays, I play with gravestone mods. I still keep my items, and death doesn't feel totally useless now.

I do think keepinventory is ridicolous, afterall you die, and respawn with no consequences.

at the same time, not having keepinventory is stupidly punishing. you mess up once, like falling in the lava, and EVERYTHING is just gone like that.

I think a balance would be the best, e.g. dying makes your item lose durability, but you still keep an hold to them, and only lose the resources you had in you... or like the many tombstones mod do, make sure that your items stay safe, even after dying in a place that is normally unreachable.

I'm surprised mojang still didn't add a toggleable feature like "balanced keepinventory" to address this issue ngl
