Announcement New Flair: Iranian Voices ONLY (Please Read Before Posting)

July 2026 Edit

The moderation team has changed this to a mod-only flair. We will quickly apply the "Only Iranians May Comment" flair whenever it is clear that the OP is specifically looking to hear from Iranians on the subject.

We are testing this out to see how it goes. We will update this post if anything else changes regarding the flair.

Today we added a new post flair: Iranian Voices ONLY

These threads are meant to center on the perspectives of Iranians, especially during times like these where outside noise can overwhelm the conversation.

What this means

Only Iranians may comment in these threads and violations may result in a ban.

Why we're doing this

r/Persian has always been open to everyone, and that will not change. But in these times, it's important to create space for Iranians to speak directly without being drowned out by outside voices.

This flair allows that space to exist when the OP chooses it. Non-Iranians may also choose this flair to ask questions directly to the Iranian community.

Where this applies

This rule applies only to posts using the Iranian Voices ONLY flair. All other threads remain open to everyone under our usual rules.

Final note

If you are not Iranian, please respect the purpose of these threads. There are many other places in the subreddit to participate.

Discussion Being an Iranian In 2026 has to be the most frustrating experience !! (Vent/rant post)

Post image
Upvotes

I'm gonna try my best to make this post as non-political as possible since reddit is full of tankie's that are both rude and cruel, especially towards Iranians. And the goddamn IRGC intel boys.

Hopefully these types of posts are allowed here.

Honestly the need for a decent life just for it to be tied to politics is tragic.

The economy is pretty much on the brink of collapse and literally everything is unfairly expensive.

Cant get a car, can't get a house, falling in love is outta the window and here I'm seeing assholes who are tied to IRGC swimming in our oil money that we don't get a dime from it and laughing at our faces.

Propaganda is literally everywhere in city parts

Nightly IR supporter demonstrations that are designed to piss you off and create unnecessary traffic and noise pullution

And electricity is rationed, where every summer we experience power outages 2 hours every 2 days, or daily while it's 40 fucking degree C

And internet, it's probably going to get shut down again because of a shitty war and their fuckass ideology and the USA Congress,Trump and most of the idiots in Western countries see us as "yet another Arab country"

All of this just because some delusional assholes above think that destroying the US and Israel is going to unfuck their problems.

Folks here are scared, confused and frustrated because of all of this

People in not just America but the whole west who are reading this, have it way way easier than us, I mean that literally since not just me but most of fellers envying yall

And we can't even leave this shithole without IR being a pain In the ass

I really dont give a shit anymore about this war and the stuff that's happening outside iran.

Like many people here I want a decent life where I don't have to go for awful mandatory military service (slavery), economy doesn't have to be so fucked to the point where you can't buy anything and someone who is competent running the country.

I swear I don't even need the iran international, IRIB or any other media to tell me about This shit, I see it IRL

Snap(aka Iranian Uber) drivers having bachelors and masters and still driving online taxi just because they can't find a job anymore and seeing my friends and some of my family members losing their jobs

Even if we find a job,we still can't afford to buy anything.

So yeah we experience stuff the USA folks are going through but 10x worse, like cosmic level bad luck for us

So yeah this was my vent post here in This sub cause honestly if you tell this to someone living outside iran, they barely believe you

And worse my adulthood era(aka my 20s) just started and this shit happened, and having Asperger's makes it so hard I have to go for college just cause I can't bear going through the military service

I grew a huge distrust towards anything that is IR related, including healthcare and the police

And for those people still living in iran (like me) how are y'all able to continue despite all of this ? I deadass don't know what to do with my life and I don't have the money to immigrate and I lost hope in everything, my only hobby is video games and sometimes art and barely worked a job with my dad but still I have no idea

So yeah, life In here as an Iranian is looking pretty bleak to the point where dying is much better than continuing

At least for me, for others idk maybe some have it worse than me

In the end, I don't care what happens to the USA, I don't care what happens to Israel, I just want a Normal life where I don't have to be subjected to political shitshows such as this

There’s actually no apples in this. It’s made with potatoes. :)

Question General Question about groups in Iran opposed to IRGC: Is It Messy?

This is a question from a non-Iranian outsider looking in.

Revolutions, rebellions and challenges against a state are always messy. One reason is that many rebellions in history are composed of various groups that put aside their differences to unite against the government. However, at times, these groups clash with one another due to their unique motives and goals.

Suppose that an outside country, be it America or any other, decides to send arms into Iran for people to rise up against the IRGC.

My question is, are the Iranian people united enough to oppose the IRGC? And is their unity solid enough to maintain a cohesive government afterwards?

Central to that question is what different groups (ideological, ethnic, religious, whichever) would make up this hypothetical rebellion? Would they resort to infighting if the IRGC ever collapsed? Or, indeed, even before the IRGC collapses, breaking the country into different factions like so many rebellions in Africa end up doing?

I ask this because, as someone who's only just become aware of the suffering of the Iranian people, I am not particularly knowledgeable of the different cultural, societal and economic nuances involved in this situation.

Although I can understand the absolute vitriol many have against the IRGC, I am simply curious if those of the Persian diaspora - who are more knowledgeable than I on this subject and stand against the IRGC - have a "solid plan" for a hypothetical rebellion. And if they have a solid plan for what may come afterwards. Thinking of resistance is easy, after all, but actually committing to it and dealing with the aftermath are entirely different.

Known for its seas, warmth, music, dance, and the joy of the people. It is the harbour of strength, patience, and resilience.

11-12 @mehrdadmosaferii
13-14 @vahdani

Edit because people seem to have questions in the comments: “Jonoob” means “south” in Persian. Ethnicities in the south include Persians, Afro-Iranians, Baluch, Lurs, and Arabs (among others). All are integrated into Iranian society and are considered Iranians. Iran is a tapestry of many different ethnicities and cultural backgrounds (with around 79 different spoken languages). Mixing is very common across Iran and many Iranians have mixed background.

Iranians with African ancestry don’t refer to themselves as “Afro-Iranians”. They refer to themselves as Iranians, or more specifically in terms of the region they reside in (e.g., hormozgan) or in terms of their heritage and language/dialect they speak (e.g., Persian, Bandari, Baluch, etc.). They are considered to be a part of their local communities and many of the cultural practices that their ancestors brought to Iran have been integrated into broader Iranian society, particularly their music/instruments and dance. Their ancestors primarily were brought to Iran from East African coastal countries by the Arab slave trade.

Question How does one "make it" in Iran?

Recently, I started researching about Iran to try and learn more about it's culture, and part of it was the money part.

My questions would be - for anyone willing to share - how does one "make it" in Iran? Is it via starting a business? Becoming a merchant?

Are startups a "thing?"

What career paths can ensure you're well off, if any? Doctor? Engineer?

The person you know or have heard about that "does well," what do they do? What would be considered a good salary/income?

Sanctions and wars are crippling, I know. I'd like to hear your stories as much of the information is very difficult to get due to secrecy.

My aim is to have a casual convo, and it goes without saying that I am very sorry about everything going on the last few months.

Question First date with Persian woman (33F) any norms or traditions to follow?

She's lived in the us for over 10 years. Online dating, weve texted and called for a few days, bit of convo on culture, I think I might be the first american she will have dated?

Anyway, im not looking to change who I am, but if there are any secret traditions, id like to show an effort.

American women I would eventually give flowers, but not on a first date...

Ive read Persian women like... sour candy and nuts? But I cant fathom showing up with sour patch kids and a jar of almonds...

What would you say?
