Wholesome Moments 10 years ago, 15-year-old Enzo Fernández begged Messi not to retire. Today, Messi assisted Enzo’s goal to send Argentina to a second World Cup final in four years.

This what I thought was gonna happen with 12 year old me made a Twitter to beg LeBron not to leave the Cavs.

This sure is a nicer post than the video of him and his teammates singing a racist chant that he posted!

Funny how every time Argentina does something racist, there is propaganda post about Messi doing nice things

142

u/TheoRaan 19h ago

It's the opposite. The chant it from 4 years ago.

This is a nice post about the goal yesterday.

96

u/bokchoykn 18h ago

I find it ironic that some the comments accusing Argentina of racism make racist remarks towards Argentinians in the same breath.

The message has been: There is no room for racism, especially from those dirty, disgusting, no good, motherless Argentinians.

There are comments laughing at how much of their people live in poverty. I'm glad we have the righteous people of Reddit guiding our morals.

53

u/MasterOogway2008 19h ago

I think it's the other way around. Whenever Messi does something great, there's hate propaganda trying to devalue his achievements.

103

u/DayFlounder1832 19h ago

“guysssss who cares if they hate people of color they kicked the ball well!”

10

u/MasterOogway2008 18h ago

I'm talking specifically about Messi not the whole of Argentina. There are people who are trying to prove he is zionist just because he won a game.

39

u/OhMyDevSaint 18h ago

Yeah, I mean, meeting with Netanyahu and far right politicians of his own free will has absolutely nothing to do with It! /s

And Copa America 2024 too, when they won against Colombia. They felt the need to bring back this racist chant about French players, they’re fucking weird.

Have you not seen the Argentine goalkeeper?

At least Pickford did it with his hands. Look up Emiliano Martinez' picture with the Golden Glove from last WC

Look up Emiliano Martinez' picture with the Golden Glove from last WC

Here you can see Pickford making that gesture toward other people. As for Dibu's gesture, he isn't directing it at anyone in particular; it's just a funny pose with a trophy.

u/Obvious-Childhood910 18h ago

As you say buddy.

Context?

407

u/Citaszion 22h ago edited 22h ago

“Chelsea say they have opened internal disciplinary proceedings following a video posted online by Enzo Fernandez of him and his Argentina team-mates singing a chant which the French Football Federation (FFF) called unacceptable, racist and discriminatory. (…) Argentina defeated France in a penalty shootout in the 2022 World Cup final, with some fans of the South American side at that tournament singing a chant ahead of that match referencing how many France players were of African heritage. The words to the chant were: “They play for France, but their parents are from Angola. [It’s good, they can run, they’re all tra\nies like this fucking Mbappé]. Their mother is from Cameroon, while their father is from Nigeria. But their passport says French*.”

(Source here). They sung this chant right after the victory against France in 2022, and then again in 2024 when they won against Colombia during the Copa America… for some reason…? This team is famously full of pieces of shit.

153

u/mencival 22h ago

Well that’s really shitty

201

u/Citaszion 22h ago edited 21h ago

Yup, and their fanbase reflects that attitude. They spammed France’s black players with “🐒🍌” comments on their Instagram posts after Argentina won, along with vile insults.

ETA: And when the team celebrated, the goalkeeper Emi Martinez was walking around carrying a doll with Mbappé’s face on it. Same guy who asked for “a minute of silence for Mbappé’s death” in the locker room (which was rich given that Emi Martinez failed to stop 3 of his goals). Sore winners. I’ll die before I support Argentina in anything lol

52

u/Classic_and_Vintage 21h ago

Man it’s such a shame that an excellent player like Messi will forever be associated with such scum.

50

u/RichardNixonWaterGr8 21h ago

Agreed.

He seems to be really close to his awful teammates though, which makes me question his character. He knows what kind of people they are.

7

5

u/mencival 18h ago

I think the doll part is tasteless/classless (unless I’m missing an angle). But the chant is just evil and fucked up.

4

u/xSnacke 18h ago

To be fair that doll was thrown to the players and Emi just played with the fans

17

u/Citaszion 18h ago edited 18h ago

I mean, I didn’t think he had brought it himself. Carrying a doll with a crying face of a fellow athlete who lost against you is a total lack of class and sportsmanship, he’s a dick.

1

u/xSnacke 18h ago

Sadly it is how we celebrate in argentina, by ridiculizing the rivals and if we can get into their nerves its better, i dont condone it but it is what it is, you should see what our local football has to offer, when 2 rival clubs play a match against each other they dont sell tickets to the opposing club because the fans just start fighting each other because of the things i mentioned before

4

u/Citaszion 18h ago edited 18h ago

Okay I see, thanks for providing an Argentinian point of view. That’s an unfortunate cultural barrier here.

3

u/Jon_AMS 17h ago

Argentinian here too

Those chants for France in Qatar 2022 were disgusting. Yes, they’re part of our culture to make fun of rivals to the extreme and it’s unfortunate that we can’t sell tickets for both teams in local matches. So they come from that mindset, you need a few racists to make a catchy song and then the hive mind repeat them without even thinking what they’re saying

I would argue that yes, in Latin American some things regarding race are different than in the rest of the world (like calling someone n*gro is not an insult, it can even been said as something lovable). And that’s something shocking for a lot of guys around the world, but other things are clearly racist here in Argentina, China, France or Antartida and should not be excused

10

u/ShortBrownAndUgly 20h ago

Does that chant rhyme in Spanish?

Same anderson who did the same to messi? The dude would have been given a red since he had another tackle that was not given a yellow, studs up above the knee tackle on messi.

The funniest part is if you say anything negative about the argentinian team today on any of these subreddits, their fans just call you racist. Like anything. lol

20

u/elGosto 18h ago

the double standard are INSANE. Germany also sung racist chants about us after winning 2014 but nobody talks about that. Yes everyone in europe is an angel and nobody is racist there, there is no history of racism in europe...

ppl saying that we come from German Nazi descent which is like 1% of our population and we are 6th at global jewish population. Then yall say that we are zionists but again, most ppl here support Palestine. Argentinian descent is also mostly Spanish/Italian not German like yall love to say.

Then you treat E V E R Y South american/Latino as a piece of shit when they go to live in Europe/USA but yall not racist.

Please stop spreading misinformation about my country. Come visist youll be surprised. And please also reflect about your society, there are dumbasses everywhere.

-13

u/Somaloria 20h ago

Argentina is historically just really super racist. Something about a bunch of people escaping germany in the mid 40s caused a humanity shift down there or something :)

34

u/proquepro 20h ago

Me when I get my history facts from a meme subreddit:

-2

u/Somaloria 19h ago

If you really think its just a meme from a subreddit you are sorely undereducated lmao. Multiple thousands escaped to Argentina, and their descendants still live there. There are hundreds of articles, papers, and web links you can click on for information on the ratlines if you really don't believe it

18

u/Feeling_8825 19h ago

Could have been worse. At least they didn't invite the Nazis and provide them with cozy job securities like some other countries did.

-2

u/Somaloria 18h ago

Buddy they did. Yes I know operation paperclip in the US, but Argentina literally did the same thing lmao

7

u/Feeling_8825 18h ago

Brother, if you think it's just the US I'm about to burst your bubble. USSR and Israel among the prominent. Brazil, Chille, Egypt, Syria, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and others had Nazis fleeing to them. Majority stayed and retired in Germany. Less than 200 Nazis were tried for war crimes. Less than 40 were sentanced to death. People act like Nazis being in Argentina is some crime against humanity, when almost every Nazi that survived the war, never had to see a day in court.

181

u/RichardNixonWaterGr8 22h ago

I was disgusted by their behavior against England yesterday. The racism was on full display and they were behaving like children, taunting the English team incessantly after winning.

Zero sportsmanship or maturity from the Argentina team. But unsurprising given what they did a few years back

119

u/Electrical_Swing8166 21h ago

They forgot Jude Bellingham speaks Spanish. Jude reminded them.

61

u/JacksRagingGlizzy 20h ago

Except if Barco had said something racist Jude would've activated the racism protocol. So it's speculation: did Barco say something? Was it Barco celebrating that goal earlier?

"Barco did deserve the slap," is the same energy as "he shouldn't have been so uppity," or "well did you see what they were wearing? They were asking for it!"

6

u/Electrical_Swing8166 20h ago

“Jude would have activated the racism protocol”

Uh huh, because we all saw how seriously FIFA treated that when Egypt invoked it in their match with Argentina. How did that go again? Oh yeah, the ref ignored the protocol entirely and gave the Egyptian coach a yellow card for making the signal against the chosen team.

Jude is 100% better off standing up for himself rather than entrusting FIFA to do anything, DOUBLY so when it’s Argentina on the other end, and he knows it

64

u/JacksRagingGlizzy 20h ago

You know that the ref for the Egypt game was the same ref that stopped the Real Madrid game for Vinnie Jr. when he did? Of course you don't.

Egypt invoked it and then asked the ref different questions and never once talked about racism. That's why the Egyptian coach got booked.

25

u/Equivalent-Eagle5207 19h ago

Egypt Coach is known loser who does things like that. He use that sign only for refree attention since his team bottle 2-0 lead.

7

u/ApprehensiveGear6382 18h ago

Couldn’t care less about Argentina, but atleast know what happened, why do you think one of the Egypt support staff got a red? Why do you think the referee was there near the Egypt dugout?

Egypt coach cried about everything on the pitch, but never said anything about racism that he or his team/staff encountered. Because it never happened, he only used the symbol to disrupt the momentum and misused that blatantly.

31

u/_garbagecannot 20h ago

Lol what show of racism did you witness in yesterday's match? You guys are insane with your hive-mind mentality.

23

u/DM-Nat20 20h ago

Did you...did you just say the English suffered racism?? 😂😂

-9

u/fuckitwilldoitlive 18h ago

Why is it impossible in your eyes?

15

u/TheoRaan 18h ago

Argentina taunting them was due to how Pickford celebrated after their goal. Holding his groin towards the Argentine bench. And also due to the English players basically clattering Messi every chance they could.

What racism was on full display exactly?

-2

u/ZaoMenom 19h ago

Las islas Malvinas argentinas

-12

u/patelbadboy2006 21h ago

This is standard for them regardless of opposition.

The way they acted against Netherlands in the last WC was disgusting as well.

It's just who they are.

Messi is so likeable, yet the rest of the team aren't.

Enzo being top of the list, followed closely by Romero, then you have a bench warmer in barco thinking his a world beater and dancing in front of the England squad when they equalised

31

u/ElPajaroMistico 21h ago

Both teams went to kill on the first 30 minutes, don’t act like England was full of saints lol. Same for Netherlands, I’m even about to watch again that entire game because of how fun of a shit show was. But saying that It was only Argentina is literally falling to propaganda lmao

22

u/arko53 20h ago edited 20h ago

I love Englishmen lecturing people about racism. Their greatest hero Winston Churchill said about the terrible Bengal famine, wrought across the province by the British hoarding grains for supplying rations to their forces engaged in the World War, that “they breed like rabbits and therefore they die”.

I am sorry but the last man I want lecturing anybody about racism is an Englishman. No other country has imposed so much misery on the world. Not even the USA.

Compared to them, Argentines are nothing lol

3

u/RichardNixonWaterGr8 20h ago

It's almost like we're talking about the behavior of their football teams in 2026 and not the entire country's geopolitical history.

Should be pretty easy to separate the two. The players aren't responsible for the latter. But they're definitely responsible for the former. Let me know when the English team starts singing racist chants and throwing slurs at their opponents.

18

u/arko53 20h ago

Ok, since we are on the subject of sports, now everyone who isn’t an Argentjna fan wants Spain to win, supposedly for blatant racism by Argentines.

Which Spain? The same Spain where Vini is regularly abused because of his skin colour, not to mention countless other players. Where bananas were thrown at Roberto Carlos and Dani Alves.

Let’s just accept that every country has its own issues and its own problem with racism, and it’s a far more complex issue than saying stuff like every Argentine is a racist or a Zionist

11

u/RichardNixonWaterGr8 20h ago

But, again, we're talking about the players. The Argentinian players are actively doing/saying racist shit. That's the issue at hand. Not history. Not geopolitics. Not the general public of a nation. The behavior of current team players.

I agree that each nation has its issues, but this is about player behavior.

-1

u/arko53 19h ago

Are players not part of the general public of a nation?

Narrowing it down to only current group of English national team players to prove your point is quite funny.

Anyway, here is an example of a former English player engaging in openly racist behaviour

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/dec/23/fa-reveal-reasons-banning-newcastles-jonjo-shelvey-five-games

Also, in no case is this an apologia for any racist activity exhibited by any player, Argentine or otherwise. But to stereotype an entire country as a racist one which seems to be the overarching theme of comments under this post seems to me to be an oversimplification

2

u/TheoRaan 18h ago

When did the current Argentina team sing racist chants or throw slurs at their opponents? Do you mean certain players?

Like Cucurella in 2020 for ? Dembele in 2021? We forgetting Antoine "Blackface" Griezmann being their vice captain as recently as 2024? People still supported France. People still support Spain.

It’s not full of yanks. And Europeans know their football. This Argentina team was singing racist chants against French NT, and France is an EU country. So Europeans deserve to have a say. There is NO excuse to what happened and there should have been a multi-year ban.

Nobody cares about your history. Your current team is full of arrogant and cocky individuals like Emi Martinez and Enzo who are disliked by majority of fans who watch football regularly. It will be great to see the Spaniards dunk on you in the final.

Show proof of a single racist act committed by Messi. And don’t give me bs like he didn’t apologise for his teammate’s behaviour

Worse team to watch in the world cup. They play too dirty and get rewarded for it

Most racist team and player, f off

u/ifeelatingle 22h ago

It’s honestly so crazy. Messi is probably the only player I know of, where each teammate, will shed blood, sweat and tears for. The amount of LOVE he gets from his players, is unmatched.

13 years later, Enzo Fernandez had to issue a public apology and surrender captaincy of chelsea because he and his miracle-story teammates were filmed singing racist chants at French NT.

Argentina should have been banned for years by FIFA.

you can say whatever you want but they fully deserved this win. They were completely bossing england around in the last 30 minutes. Actually they should have probably scored more considering mac allister hit the post twice.

The English are still crying? What happened to your billion euro squad?

Enzo is a giant POS for all non-footballing fans. Like he’s a genuinely terrible human being.

2

u/letmeseeitman 22h ago

I feel like he can do this in another 4 years. Just let him chill and walk around the pitch and not chase balls in Miami and he’ll be good to go.

What a shame they are about to lose against Spain

1

u/Big-Engineer-1510 20h ago

This would be beautiful if not for fernandez being a massive knob. Great goal last night though.

Ugh Argentina cheating again.

u/Sir_Abracadavre 19h ago

Don't care, Argentina is racist

1

u/deep-skys 18h ago

No thanks, I hate racists.

u/WhySoSara 22h ago

Corrupt cheaters.

Enzo should have received a red card at minute 3 for punching England player in the neck.

Messi assist should have been a foul. He stomped on Spence's foot before recovering the ball.

This definitely doesn't make anyone smile, only argentinians for sure.

The whole world now see the corruption.

Truly the best PR campaign of all time that the empire that held the biggest slave trade in the history of mankind and that shoot its own economy in the foot to keep immigrants out of its borders is praised as “the victim of racism” when playing against a team whose country has free universal healthcare and universities for all immigrants, documented or not, that cross its borders.

u/sup_with_the_whack_ 19h ago

It's truly sad that some people blind themselves to clear evidence of racism and support such people. Good footballer ≠ good human being.
