They're mad at his success because him being successful makes them feel shitty about themselves by comparison so they feel the need to "put him down" every chance they get
Its all so sad.
911
u/Independent-Bug-9352 3d ago
I'd rather they do that to someone who deserves it, like Musk.
700
u/YoungDiscord 3d ago
I feel like the people who give this guy shit for how his wife looks are the same people who idolize musk.
310
u/Candymanshook 3d ago
Idolize Musk and the rest of the “alpha” grindset losers like Andrew Tate, they make fun of Rice because him being married to someone whose a little overweight(and she’s had kids so come on people, shit happens) reduces his standing in their imaginary pecking order that revolves around vanity and status.
Also like…she’s not ugly. She has a very attractive face.
400
u/YoungDiscord 3d ago
I'll let you in on a lil secret: its not that he's married to a woman they consider ugly, its that he's married to a woman they consider ugly and he's happy
People like them have what I like to call a "coping narrative"
They are miserable or unhappy about something (for example: they can't get a girl)
So they come up with a BS narrative explaining why that is a case that doesn't blame them (because god forbid they do some introspection, admit their faults, grow as a person and actually solve their problem no sirree)
For example: oh I can't get a girl because Stacies only go for Chads, not because I'm inconsiderate and disrespectful to people! Its their fault not mine!
And that makes them feel better about their lives because they feel like they have someone else to blame for it which is easier to cope with than having to admit that they are the reason, not someone else.
These people need this narrative to basically live day-to-day and not fall apart because they aren't mature enough to face reality
So when they see a "chad" over there pick someone they consider as a "lower" person according to their coping narrative and actually just be wholesome and happy and their relationship works it shatters these people's coping narrative to smithereens and that makes them just... completely lose it and lash out like you see here, they see red and they have to burn it all to the ground abd remove all traces of existence because only that way they can come back to pretending to be a victim instead of being the ones to blame.
None of this was ever about the guy's wife at any point, its about selfish people wanting to feel better about the consequences of them being selfish in life and this breaking that illusion.
Some people will literally do anything to avoid confronting themselves no matter how vile.

I think the projection thing is a huge part of it. They are jealous of his success and if they were him they fantasise about fucking 10/10 hotties that wouldn’t even look at them twice right now, so it almost offends them that he doesn’t live to that imaginary standard.
Personally I couldn’t give a shit, he plays for my club so if this is who keeps him happy & healthy please continue because it’s none of my business!

Do you think they partially do it to feel better about the disrespect they have for women and knowing they’d ditch their own partner if they got rich/famous? Like if they believe every man thinks that way, then they don’t have to feel bad about it?
802
u/utzutzutzpro 3d ago
It is weird that people expect football player to date gold diggers. He is clearly dating in his world. Normal lad, dating normal woman. They like each other and match.
But yeah, once you are a rich athlete, everyone expects you to get engaged with a golddiger whose whole personality is dresses and makeup, meeting with the other golddiggers from the team talking about the newest high society bar in London.
They look very matching and happy.
172
582
u/TopInvestigator5518 3d ago
I get you were trying to say something positive but just to point out from a woman's perspective there is no winning
if you are an average woman the internet and society at large thinks you are ugly and undeserving of being with the athlete or people will congratulate him on being down to earth enough and humble enough to be with someone like her
and if you are an attractive woman then you are labelled a gold digger whose entire personality is dresses and makeup, offers nothing of substance and must be with him for all the wrong reasons
I'm glad he stuck up for her but my god its got to be exhausting to be her
277
u/kiteflying1 3d ago
Yeah I’m glad you pointed out the bit of hypocrisy/misogyny even in the comment defending Declan’s partner. We can lift women up without putting other women down
117
u/tekko001 3d ago
The goal should be to stop judging women based on their appearance either way.
Being conventionally attractive doesn't make someone a gold digger, and being more "ordinary" doesn't automatically make someone more genuine.
People are individuals, and that's the standard we should apply.

u/Candymanshook 3d ago
I don’t think it’s one or the other for most people especially when it comes to athletes.
I don’t think every athlete’s wife is a gold digger and it’s crude to say so, the reality is that attractive women are going to end up with attractive men a lot of the time, that doesn’t have anything to do with gold digging.

If he was of the character to replace her with someone to fit a public approved aesthetic, he would be replacing her with a gold digger because they swarm athletes and no genuine woman would be with a man who's only concerned with looks.
People aren't congratulating him for humility, they're impressed that he's smart enough to know what's important. A lot of men aren't. I know a few men who dumped their wives/partners when they got successful and replaced them with physically gorgeous types who are clearly only using them for their money. That's just silly.

47
u/german-wmn 3d ago
What does normal mean in this context?
Because while she's bigger than current beauty standards would dictate (just a description/observation, no judgement either way), there are many men who actually prefer that over thinner women. That's just a fact. Also, she has a very pretty face, so personally I think she looks really good.
21
52
u/Belicheckyoself 3d ago
I don’t think attractive always implies gold digger. This reads a little Andrew Tate-esque. It’s not far fetched for professional athletes to date someone more conventionally attractive or fit since it’s a huge part of their lives/values. Less attractive and higher body fat % people can be gold diggers too
4
u/TrustInRust2 3d ago
Yeah, it's a load of crap. Obviously if you're 50 years old, look like an orc, then any 25 year old you attract will be a gold digger.
But if you're fit and quite handsome (Like Rice), you can easily get a beautiful woman who's not with you for money.
12
u/TheWhomItConcerns 3d ago
I mean, while I agree that it's shitty to insinuate that attractive women are gold diggers, I think viewing this as what he "can" do is also wrong. You don't choose who you love, and if he genuinely loves her then he's not going to drop her for an attractive woman, gold digger or not, just because he can do it.
9
u/jasta85 3d ago

I wouldn't even call it envy, but rather people who fantasize about having his life, or at least what they think his life is, and he's not living up to their expectations. People like that dream that if they were a rich soccer player, they would have a bunch of disposable girlfriends, all with exactly the same appearance as the woman in their dreams.
On another note, I recently came across a profound truth online about Neymar’s fans: they are just like the person in my comment—a bunch of grown men who want to remain eternal adolescents, want to be excused for it, and insist on calling themselves respectable men, even though they are clearly irresponsible. Neymar’s fans couldn't care less about how he plays soccer; instead, they get a thrill out of every new girlfriend, every instance of infidelity, every new child with a different woman, and every party he throws.

It might be because of the evident lack of lip filler and botox.
Which makes her actually really attractive to many men. Kind of a rare species nowadays.
And especially once someone has kids he realizes there are other important things in life.
After all, looks fade over time. And not all of us want to look like zombies when we age.
7
u/Gold_Telephone_7192 3d ago
No it’s because she’s fat lol. It doesn’t make her a bad person and no one should be judging her or him on their relationship, but most people find overweight people unattractive and that’s why people are saying she’s unattractive. It has nothing to do with lip filler or boric which she could easily have.

Good for you. Tbh once you get in a relationship where you know you both care about each other, you realise the whole “upgrading” thing is only really mentioned by people who never found that. Don’t even mean that in an insulting way, just that they genuinely don’t get it.
If you ever experienced that, you realise quickly why most couples are not an objective 7 with a 7 or a 10 with a 10 and what drives relationships isn’t “hm I think looks wise I’m luckier or my partner is luckier”
231
u/jaynvius 3d ago
The whole 'upgrading' your spouse thing is stupid nevermind the history, chemistry, happy, and sad moments that you have to endure in order to get to where you are as a couple. People on the internet suck, this is why divorce rates are so high.

u/Carbon-Base 3d ago
We can hope that people that make comments like the "upgrading" spouse thing never find partners and their pathetic values can't be passed down to others.
9
u/macphile 3d ago
It's unlikely that they will, although there are sadly a lot of women who end up with horrible partners because of their own issues.
If they think a wife can/should be "upgraded," it just shows they see women as objects and not as people--they're just a talking blow-up doll. To them, relationships are all about shallow sexual gratification and impressing other people, not about spending your life with someone you value, living a life that has any meaning.

It's sad how looking normal isn't accepted as normal anymore.
Without even getting into any sort of judgement call about her attractiveness or lack of, she looks normal.
If you saw her on the street you'd either not notice her at all or think in passing that she looked pleasant. You wouldn't think "What the fuck happened to that lady's face?" which is what I think all the time when I look at celebrities.
I was just reading an article the other day about the number of teenagers getting Botox and fillers. How fucked up is that? You're at an age where you have no wrinkles and a naturally full face that still has "baby fat" in it. And you're... paralyzing your face muscles because you're scared of future wrinkles and injecting fillers to make your already youthful face look inflated to the point of deformity? It's awful.

The people criticising/making fun of their relationship are sick bastards who have never been with a woman and never will because they stink of basement mould.

If I were a wealthy celebrity I would constantly be questioning people's motives. You have a cute woman, mother of your child, who you know loves you for who you are before you were a celeb. What more could you want? A young gold digger waiting to stab you the second she gets a chance? People really don't think logically

Most of the men who mock her appearance would literally kill just to have a beautiful woman like her look their way.
