Day off and and free publicity
13
u/RobertTheAdventurer 15d ago
If enough people write their congressmen and congresswomen, perhaps congress can subpoena Twitch to explain why distracted driving broadcasts on Twitch's platform are apparently only given a one day ban. This is a public safety issue. If Twitch doesn't do something about it, one of these streamers is eventually going to end up hurting members of the public with their reckless driving. A one day ban is not doing something about it.
Even other streamers see that this is a very big safety issue. Why isn't Twitch taking it seriously?

Why go to a congressman, why haven't any viewers who live in Austin reported Emily to the police? She's literally breaking the law with video footage, the police could easily fine/arrest her.

Wasnt there something about subscriptions not renewing if they are due during the ban? Wouldn't that mean on average you lose 3% of subs to this?
223
u/MariaLikesMario 15d ago
You can now get gifted subs while being suspended. She got a lot.
She's not tied to business hours - everything she would have streamed in those 24h is something she can still stream on any other day of the year.
She will get a lot of extra subs on her "comeback" stream.
Dan Clancy basically just gave her a bonus.

He said (tweeted i think) that the people he was fighting with in his trans people in sports era are subhuman. But i am not a lore master, maybe it was something else.
73
u/BTrippd 15d ago
Which is hilarious if true (but we really don’t know if that’s it or not, it’s honestly probably no particular incident, they just hated him and pulled the trigger) because Hasan has said worse things to his lgbtq chatters when they disagree with him lmfao
57
u/TetraNotTetris 15d ago
The thing was he wasn't calling trans people subhuman. He was calling the people he was arguing with subhuman. They just happened to be trans and twisted his words.
I say this as someone who dislikes destiny
5
u/Bigger_moss 15d ago
With Destinys situation it’s a lot like the person cheating at battlefield super obviously and then they went “you guys are being transphobic for calling me out on cheating”, they used their demographic as a shield essentially.
Destiny was calling people harassing him subhuman, not the entire trans community based on the clip lmao
→ More replies (2)2
u/CoSh 14d ago
IF it had to do with his comments on trans people it had to do with streamers attacking him and he said something along the lines of "those people are subhuman". To me it sounded like the context had to do with their actions, the argument is that Twitch could argue he was saying trans people were subhuman. In either case, other streamers have said worse and got unbanned so the only real reason is someone at Twitch has it out for him.

u/RodChainFurlongAcre 15d ago edited 15d ago
Twitch doesn't want to ban any streamer no matter what, since they lose money every time (They only make exceptions if it financially harms the platform itself to keep a streamer unbanned). They only ban if there's significant public attention and to satiate public outrage for the moment. They also simply do it to avoid legal scrutiny by having examples to point to of them "enforcing their terms of service".
20
u/keyakitreehouse 15d ago
then why is Destiny still banned

still the same thing cause hasan would stop streaming on twitch or at very least start multistreaming consistently if they actually did it. that would be a bigger hit to revenue than the benefit of unbanning destiny

Pokemon Go had it figured out from day 1 , very simple fix.
At 6.5 mph it issues a warning and you have to tap "I am a passenger" and the game stays open but you cant do anything.
At 15 mph it does not load anything, cant see any pokemon, cant do anything, cant spin pokestops, nothing.
Very simple GPS fix, Twitch chooses to let this happen
26
u/Special-Treat-9767 15d ago
Wouldn't streamers need to use the official Twitch app to stream for GPS information? No IRL streamer does.

Tik Tok actually does this already. I joined a live once with cam on while waiting at a bridge. The moment I started driving the host and me instant got a warning that I was driving and when I ignored it it kicked me and suspended my ability to join livestreams for a day (it was my first offense)
270
u/Scary_Frame_3105 15d ago
Twitch doesn't give a crap about the driving offenses, otherwise they would've banned everyone else too. She only got banned because her clips blew up on social media. The deciding factor wasn't the driving, it was the negative publicity. Once it became a PR problem, Twitch had to act.
She basically was banned for driving.. engagement.

In fact, I don't understand the favoritism argument. She was the one who got banned because her clips blew up. The people who did the same thing (and worse) without going viral are the ones who never faced any consequences and got away with it. The outrage should not be focused on her getting banned and unbanned in a day, but on the fact that others did the same thing and were never held accountable at all. A one day ban might be a joke, but it's still more than nothing compared to everyone else.
→ More replies (13)17
u/Ajp_iii 15d ago
Nobody on this Reddit deals with facts. It’s so funny when they say favoritism and stuff like that because she is actually being targeted compared to the rest of the streamers. And then saying going viral helps the stream. When it just doesn’t. The only way going viral helps is if your content was like ice or clavicular and your content is so degen you want the insane viewers.

Reddit and Twitter show people don’t even know how the real world exists. I drive everyday in Florida if you aren’t inside a city you will see a cop pull someone over like once every 2 weeks and that is only if they go 20 over.
You can even get duis and crazy shit and barely anything actually happens. I’ve seen people phone in hand drive past a cop and won’t be pulled over. It’s technically the law but the punishment is so small it’s not worth it for anyone’s time.
Also if cops started handing out tickets for every traffic violation the sheriff and local government will quickly be voted out as soon as possible.
→ More replies (4)4
u/-suspended- 15d ago
Most cops just don't want to do paperwork. Unless the cops have set up a speed trap or are enforcing stuff like triple fines during construction, you're usually not gonna get pulled over for going 15 to even 20 over. That assumes a cop even sees you speeding in the first place. You can get away with breaking as many traffic laws as you want if you don't get caught, which is really easy.
I doubt there is a single person that doesn't break, by accident or on purpose, any law when driving more than a mile.
2
u/Ajp_iii 15d ago edited 15d ago
Like twice a week when driving at night I’ll just see someone make a left on a full red because they don’t want to wait. It’s insane out there
And it’s something like 5% of drivers don’t even have a license and another several million drive on suspended licenses. If traffic laws were actually enforced to how they were written it would be the most unpopular thing among the population of the us.
People claim they care so much which is right and they should because it’s so dangerous but as soon as any Sherrifs office wants to hand out more tickets they become instantly unpopular and replaced.
And then most states have bans on red light cameras let alone speed cameras.
→ More replies (2)7
u/ComprehensiveAd3432 15d ago
Texas cops don't care and many people have done what you said
5
u/Current-Area- 15d ago
Yeah, because law enforcement knows there’s realistically nothing more they can do. Under Texas law, the most they could issue is a fine—typically for an unsafe lane change and/or any relevant distracted-driving violation under Transportation Code §545.4251. Often, if officers didn’t witness the incident in person, they’re unlikely to pursue it at all. People hoping for a driving ban or licence suspension need to be realistic: that isn’t likely here. A citation is the practical outcome, and that’s all.

They'll do it after some streamer wipes out a family and their kids and ends up on international news, not a moment before something like that. Rules written in blood to protect profit as always. It's fucking disgusting honestly but it's been that way since forever, sadly.

Getting banned on twitch means nothing at the moment. If Twitch actually cared then they would ban her for at least a month from day one and not after public outcry. Then immediately afterwards strictly ban streaming while driving punishable by 1 month ban minimum for 1st offense.
