The path Speed was originally on compared to what it is now needs to be studied because WOW, what a turnaround.

u/Cautious_Wafer3075 Apr 18 '26

In a couple years everyone is going to forgot how much a menace to society young Speed was lol. It’s going to be niche knowledge.

Joji/Filthy Frank arc

249

u/robx51 Apr 18 '26

Yeah that one is almost unbelievable

108

u/eatMYcookieCRUMBS Apr 19 '26

I saw joji in concert and no one knew who he was. They would ask who he was, who was i going to see? I told the filthy frank and they knew. It was weird. Especially because I thought filthy frank was lame.

40

u/ndnsoulja Apr 19 '26

People already forgot the Harlem Shake

u/colorblind-and Apr 19 '26

He really saw the writing on the wall at the perfect time

97

u/Steamed_Memes24 Apr 19 '26

The Haircake video was probably the final straw for him because Filthy Frank was always meant to be a one off thing but he kept going because it put him on the map and helped him get money for his personal projects. But that video...even Filthy Frank couldnt take it anymore lmao.

I don't think they will. A lot of people who make memes/compilations still use his "IS A FEMALE TALKING TO ME???!" clip

19

u/HahaMin Apr 19 '26

Just like how Pewdiepie bridge incident or Pokimane Anivia will always haunt them.

9

They already have. His international travel streams have done so much for his image.

279

Most people already forgot when he implied he would rape a girl if they were the last people on earth.

581

He was being an edgy teenager, obviously a stupid thing to say but that really shouldn't be held over him for the rest of his life lmfao

Yea, for shit teenagers say, that is extremely mild. People just LOVE to hate on LSF. Most of the people here are hate watchers. They're mad that someone else is living their dream and will cheer for their downfall.

Livestreaming and pro wrestling are actually really similar. Lowkey scripted, fake beefs, relying on viral moments, etc.

41

u/rpanko Apr 19 '26

Yeah that’s a great point. WWE was smart to see the vision and bring him on. So many new eyeballs, and Speed has the athleticism to make these matches entertaining.

5

u/Hidden_Land_Mine_183 Apr 19 '26

Honestly they needed it. There's just not the same amount of kids growing up watching wrestling every night or whatever. For sure they still have an audience, but the majority of what would've been their audience has been taken over by stuff like gaming/streaming. Having people from the gaming/streaming world come over to WWE will keep them alive.,

1.0k

u/migrations_ Apr 18 '26

Wrestlers are well known to be in constant pain. I've heard that to be a wrestler is to live a life of pain. You can't abuse your body like that and not hurt.

292

u/EpilepticShark Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

Considering Cody Rhodes tore his pec during a match but kept going, I believe it.

Edit - before, not during. My bad

168

u/TheToug Apr 19 '26

Then wrestled a 30min+ Hell in a Cell days later, omplete with massive bruising all over his chest.

131

u/WASD_click Apr 19 '26

Mick Foley was thrown 16 ft off the top of Hell in a Cell.

He got up, fought a bit, went back up to the top, and was unintentionally slammed through the top of the cage and fell into the ring.

The match continued for another 10 minutes, and included a thumbtack spot.

60

u/PassiveMenis88M Apr 19 '26

Don't forget that his teeth punched a hole in his lip that you can see him push his tongue through.

52

u/nagrom7 Apr 19 '26

There's also a shot of him with what looks like a booger in his nose, but it's actually one of his teeth.

→ More replies (13)

34

u/Jmacz Apr 19 '26

His tooth was also hanging out of his nostril.

4

u/Secret-Ad-2145 Apr 19 '26

What they do is really impressive. It's why I always defend wrestling even though people say its fake or whatever. We know. But this kind of stuff is rough on the body, it's difficult to do these kind of stunts and have showmanship at the same time. It's an art form of its own.

Rick Boogs also tore his quad tendons off of his knee in wrestlemania 38, they put themselves through a lot

→ More replies (2)

18

u/Kyhron Apr 19 '26

He tore it days before the match but did the match without getting it repaired until after

→ More replies (1)

13

u/JackintheBox333 Apr 19 '26

Technically it was in the gym days before a match, but he decided to wrestle the hardcore cage match anyway.

If you want an example of somebody tearing stuff in a match and continuing to wrestle and finish the match... look no further than HHH. He did this no less than 3 times. HHH tore his quad and proceeded to finish the match which involved the torn muscle being forcibly stretched. He tore his other quad several years later and proceeded to finish that match too. Then finally he tore his pec in a terrible Saudi Arabia match and finished that match too.

CM Punk tore his triceps and finished the Royal Rumble. John Cena tore his pec and finished the match. John Cena also delayed surgery on his torn triceps for weeks to wrestle the Summerslam main event in 2013.

Wrestling is a lot of pain. It always has been.

6

u/BroadcastShowers Apr 19 '26

Say what you want about Triple H, and there is plenty to criticize him on over the years, but his toughness regarding things like this is second to none.

The results of the fights are made up, and they are surely not punching with bone breaking force, but to have someone smack you with a steel chair and be dropped from a ladder hurts

u/1km5 Apr 19 '26

5

u/RedWingerD Apr 19 '26

Have a family member who was a household name in the 90s- early 2000s. Nothing in wrestling really feels "good" but if done right most things shouldn't "hurt" in the moment unless somebody screws up. By the time these guys are in front of an event like this their bodies are incredibly conditioned. Getting there is hell though and the days after are usually worse in terms of pain/soreness. Usually the wear and tear is what leads to a lot of injuries rather than one specific moment unless something is bothced.

That isnt typically applicable to high risk things like the speed clip though. They both felt that for sure.

I can appreciate a lot of what WWE has done to limit the risk especially out of the attitude era even if the product itself has suffered (just my opinion.).

11

u/4KVoices Apr 19 '26

The product hasn't suffered due to safety stuff they've done on the wrestlers' behalf, it's sucked because the people handling creative and the people above the people handling creative fucking suck at making a coherent and enjoyable show. Fuck the Fed forever.

11

u/DeepSeaDynamo Apr 19 '26

Yea, even The Undertaker has spoke about how crazy it was

17

u/tmronin Apr 19 '26

those 2 did a reaction video to that match in the last couple years and it's a fun watch. paraphrasing here, "dang Mick, that looked painful."

5

u/Jmacz Apr 19 '26

Taker said he had an out of body experience watching it.

5

u/nagrom7 Apr 19 '26

Yeah, he spent half that match thinking he should call it off, while Foley (who was the one actually taking most of the punishment) kept telling him to keep going.

→ More replies (1)

28

u/Drumboardist Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

Don't forget the fact that AFTER he was tossed through the Spanish announcers' table, he fought off the medics and returned to the top of the cage. The plan was that 'Taker would do THREE Chokeslams, until the cage broke through enough that Mankind would dangle via his feet, then land upright and be facing 'Taker as he jumped down to continue the fight. Hell, 'Taker even stood on the support bar to try and keep the "roof" from imploding....but it still did.

Mankind himself said that if he'd landed "properly", he probably would've died; instead, he bounced off of the chair that fell through, and was knocked out (and lost several teeth in the process)...yet he still somehow fought thought it all (and shoo'ed off Terry Funk, a feat amongst its' own) and continued the battle against 'Taker.

So...Mankind shoulda died (from the initial toss), and the plan was that he'd feign that off and then eat 3 more Chokeslams, into another giant fall....but instead it went off accidentally, after the first, and he SHOULD have died...but didn't, and kept going well past the point of consciousness. And another HUGE hardcore wrestler, Terry Funk, was there to oversee it all....and tried to wave it all off, thinking Mankind HAD died during the stunt. Despite all that, he fought through and finished the match, much to the chagrin of everyone backstage.

Yeeeaaaah, Foley's inhuman.

u/Jmacz Apr 19 '26

One of the teeth wasn't lost, it was hanging out of his nostril.

u/Jacern Apr 19 '26

The table breaking helps a little, but not as much as you would think

→ More replies (3)

21

u/FEARoach Apr 19 '26

It's "fake" in the sense it's scripted and sensationalized, but it's not fake in the sense that they're doing some dangerous shit and need to be on their game to not end up paralyzed.

It's like rodeo clowns. Except in reverse. It looks goofy as fuck, it's for entertainment value rather than the safety of the athletes doing the dangerous shit.

31

u/Masuia Apr 19 '26

Had to. Notice the ref or whoever come in immediately and seemingly say something along the lines of “if you’re good to keep going squeeze my hand”.

32

u/waffle__stomped Apr 19 '26

I’ve always found it so fascinating how integral the referees are to pro wrestling. Like obviously they’re not actually refereeing anything for real but they are an essential part of the process, both looking out for the wrestlers’ safety and relaying information between the wrestlers. The refs are super underrated, not appreciated enough

18

u/de-tree-fiddy Apr 19 '26

The stories are fake but the injuries are very real.

8

u/EchoLocation8 Apr 19 '26

In my weird shift towards learning more about wrestling all my research points to: Yes, it does. The only reason these guys aren't all dead is that they do their absolute best to minimize impact across these moves but at the end of the day you're still getting hit and slamming heavy people into the ground.

The ring floor isn't soft, it's basically fuckin plywood that's a little springy.

Like, you can hit someone in the face with a folding chair, and you can do it in a way to minimize impact by holding the legs that lets the chair fold out on hit, but you're still being hit with a fuckin chair in the face.

And while they definitely fake a lot of punches and slaps, it's extremely common that in an effort to sell it they do accidentally hit each other and these people are strong as fuck.

And then there's this shit, idgaf what that table is made of if it's not a big fuckin pillow that hurts badly.

39

u/NobleSturgeon Apr 19 '26

They’ll try to tell you wrestling is fake.

The match might be scripted but there’s no way something like that is fake.

76

u/AvaryZig Apr 19 '26

It's fake in the way stunt actors are doing fake, yet real shit. It's entertainment, not competition.

Crazy for speed but Logan has been a professional WWE athlete for years lol

384

u/Zibai1505 Apr 18 '26

I guess but you're kind of leaving your fate to someone who's a rookie.

161

u/noodlesofdoom Apr 18 '26

I'm sure they both practiced this a lot since if speed messed up it could severely injure both of them.

66

u/engelthefallen Apr 18 '26

Speed may have practice with a crash pad but spots like this you do not really practice, you just do and hope nothing goes wrong. They are not gonna set up the table and practice this though beforehand as it just adds unneeded risk.

28

u/big_fig Apr 19 '26

Except you can absolutely practice it. With the pads and everything at exact height you know he'll be at.

26

u/engelthefallen Apr 19 '26

Hence why I said he may have practiced with a crash pad. But you are not gonna practice that on that exact table, from the ring with someone laying down. That is now how wrestling works at all.

I'm worried that Oba won't go over Brock, because there is more story with Brock losing than with him winning.

But, with WWE's booking lately, Oba will probably lose, which really sucks.

Plus if you slow it down you can see Logan at the last second move his body up to catch him and transfer their weight off the table. Wrestling is nuts

19

u/Jokar93 Apr 19 '26

The Table breaking is actually the main “Movie Trick” with spots like these. It looks more dramatic while lessening the impact for both wrestlers. Whenever you see sports like these and the table doesn’t break, then you know it really hurts.

72

u/Ok-Win-742 Apr 18 '26

Nah that table is made of rubber and foam

113

u/---Pockets--- Apr 18 '26

Normal functional wood and fiberglass table thats used during the show, just the joints holding it together are made to separate when impacted which is why it falls apart the way it does.

There's tablets, drinks, equipment, etc that's all held on the table, commentators lean in it. It's the sudden force that makes the joints let go

35

u/Poopicus Apr 19 '26

Honestly, this table holds together way better than most. Which makes it even more painful.

Speed hit a solid surface and bounced off. His knees are gonna feel that shit when hes 40 bro.

i get that this is scripted and its choreographed to look worse than it actually is but I just don't see a world in which this just doesn't hurt like a motherfucker for both of them (moreso logan )

u/MeijiDoom Apr 19 '26

The majority of moves hurt at least one party, if not both. Splash moves like this are known to be brutal, especially so since there's not a wide flat surface like the ring. No one who has seena chokeslam could think its all fake.

u/Sabres26 Apr 19 '26

People seem to forget wrestling isn’t fake, it’s scripted. Lots of moves they perform hurt a lot

logan probably felt very little pain as speed doesn't even really touch him when he landed. speed, on the other hand, probably felt some pain on that landing.

Most things in wrestling hurt. They do a lot to avoid injury, but doesn't mean the stuff doesn't hurt like crazy. No way to jump off something 10 feet up and land on top of another human or to hit someone with a metal chair across the back and have it not hurt.

Jesús that’s a big fucking crowd. As someone from outside America it’s something weird to realize how big the WWE is

97

u/nghigaxx Apr 18 '26

I mean its theater for jocks, its very fun

28

u/backupbitches Apr 19 '26

The only dudes I know who are obsessed with it are also community theatre nerds

48

u/AyepuOnyu Apr 19 '26

Honestly it's not just for jocks. There's a huge contingent of nerds too. I took my kids to a show and honestly it was probably the most diverse crowd of people at any large event I've ever attended.

It's a Broadway level soap opera with gratuitous violence.

There is a reason that the best of them eventually move into acting. They have some level of acting skills, and some level of athletic ability. Translates well to action movies.

This is actually a bad attendance for a Wrestlemania event. This year was only 50,000. Last year was over 60,000 and two years ago it was 70,000.

12

u/gafftaped Apr 19 '26

I was gonna say all of those upper rows are completely empty, this looks relatively low attendancd overall.

its big internationally. if WWE went to the UK for example they would sell out the biggest stadium there (with ease)

u/OhItsKillua Apr 18 '26

WWE is equally massive outside of America, they do tour Europe for instance and sell out. Helps that those places don't get shows as much, but I imagine they would sell out most large hubs around the globe.

wow. I hope they didn't get injured.

364

u/Not-Post-Malone Apr 18 '26

The ref checks up on them by grabbing their hands and if they squeeze they're good. If they don't, they're dead.

64

u/FlowersWillWait Apr 18 '26

Damn that's neat. Thanks for the detail

18

u/TheFeelsGoodMan Apr 19 '26

Refs have also been known to make an X with their arms when there is someone badly injured. But this is fairly well known nowadays and is occasionally faked for dramatic effect.

6

u/Ditchdigger456 Apr 19 '26

you can pretty easily tell the fake ones too if you've seen a real one. there's def a theatrical difference lol

u/JamesLikesIt Apr 18 '26

Logan been wrestling for a while and probably knows how to mitigate injuries, Speed is newer but I'm sure they both practiced and trained for this.

3

u/Jumpman-x Apr 19 '26
