Its only gay if you create content of you being content with a dick in your mouth. Thats why cartman wasn't gay in that episode of south park. He didnt put another guys dick in his mouth. He just plopped his balls menacingly on the table and they fell into butters mouth at the exact moment he took the picture.

I love this thread; I almost wanted to flame the unnecessary stupidity of jumping off with a weapon that at least looks sharp, but after this thread, I kinda just wanna give this one axe-wielding person in the world, who likes jumping off things, props for his commitment! Doesn’t matter if I’m not into 'this' kind of stuff..

I don't think I own anything with a dvd drive in 2026
6
u/DyaLoveMe Feb 11 '26
No game consoles or external drives for random use? UHD Blu-ray will usually carry the media better, even if changing dvds for the annual LOTR rewatch is a bit of a pain.
3
u/ManikMiner Feb 11 '26
I never bothered getting a PS5, and my PS4 is sitting in a drawer somewhere. I've had random drives for like 15 years that I threw away when I moved and realised I never used them. I have the full extended LOTR on a USB (a must have)
2
u/DyaLoveMe Feb 11 '26
You don’t have a UHD Blu-ray version and player, you’re missing a good amount in bitrate unless you’re using Kaleidoscope (or a cheeky purchase they don’t know about).
→ More replies (2)5
u/ReyWorm Feb 11 '26
Rewatched it a few weeks ago.
CGI is great, the dragons are amazing, the premise is fun, interesting, and rather unique (makes me think of the game Horizon: Zero Dawn).
With all that being said, it feels like the movie was edited and trimmed to the point where too much is missing. The character of McConaughey is badass as fuck, but severely underdeveloped.
The romance feels really, really forced, and some of the decisions taken by the characters seems unsubstantiated, again, it could be a symptom of the movie being shortened in post-prod.
I think the 6.2/10 the movie got on IMDB is not far from being fair and deserved.

No that's a lot of snow.
436
u/Fit_Lion9260 Feb 11 '26
30M is crazy work. The world record for a high dive in to water is about 60M. That's from a professional in water in perfect conditions. This is just some dude bellyfloping in to unknow snowy conditions with a fucking ax in his hand.
417
u/maelstrom51 Feb 11 '26
I think a pile of snow would actually be safer than water assuming its deep enough. Snow on the ground has a lot of air and can compress a lot. Water is almost incompressible and acts almost like a solid when impacted at high speeds.
118
u/Polygnom Feb 11 '26
Well, if the snow actually is uncompressed. If you pile it up e.g. because you shovelled it.... Hm.
And if you did not pile it up yourself... you have no idea what's under/inside the pile.
83
u/Slimmanoman Feb 11 '26
Presumably you check before, like divers

u/YendorWons Feb 11 '26

16
u/Papplenoose Feb 11 '26
Idk, i used to do stuff like this and the only reason I'm still alive is because, paradoxical to my death wish, I was super serious about safety.
→ More replies (3)11
u/CamsGraphics Feb 11 '26
I mean probably yeah? Reasons he’s still alive.
You can do something cool, dangerous, idiotic and do it safely.
Skydiving is inherently unsafe, you can still (and should) do it safely.
15
7
u/Nagemasu Feb 11 '26
And if you did not pile it up yourself... you have no idea what's under/inside the pile.
Generally in places where you do this, you know the snow depth, and how much it has snowed recently that would allow for this to happen. You're aware of what the likelihood is there is something under the snow, and what it is (e.g. if you know your snow base is 5meters and it snowed 1+ meters recently, then the change of something being bigger than that snow base is pretty low) - Obviously not everyone makes these considerations, but if you live in places where this amount of snow is common, it's a relatively easy choice to make.
If you don't know, then you can use a probe to probe the snow and check first which will not damage the structure or performance of the landing site significantly.→ More replies (2)→ More replies (4)4
2
u/Ki-san Feb 11 '26
Yes and no, uncompressed snow is going to hurt less and stop you safely if there is enough depth. on the other hand if you're jumping into water you probably know how to swim, whereas you can get stuck in deep snow and suffocate surprisingly easy especially if you don't have someone to help pull you out.
→ More replies (3)2
37
u/CloutAtlas Feb 11 '26
Record for diving into water is 60m? Pfft. The record for landing without water is 10 kilometers. Co-incidentally it was also a snowy forest.
→ More replies (12)12
u/LynaaBnS Feb 11 '26
"unknown" they build a little ramp he could slide down into the deep snow. They knew exactly what they did and planned everything accordingly.
6
u/Background-Sale3473 Feb 11 '26
Where did you get 30m from? This is barely 15meters.
Water is more dangerous then snow you can survive 200m drop into snow you cannot survive a 200m drop into water no matter the conditions you will be dead on impact.
→ More replies (2)37
u/ChillDictator Feb 11 '26

People have fallen further without injury. 20 years ago some dude fell 77m into snow on his skis, landing upside down and was good to walk away (intentionally btw).
Another man did this unintentionally because he lost track of his route down the mountain, same story.

He's constantly giving himself mild to moderate concussions (maybe serious in some cases) ... if he continues doing it he'll almost certainly get CTE, and quick. There's no way of stopping your brain from slamming very hard into your skull. One of the klats with him said he sees stars after doing it (from less than half that height) ... which is the result of your brain bouncing off the inside of your skull.

"Let's see if I can survive this." is such a weird motivation for an activity that results in zero additional benefits.
100
u/Sea_Bodybuilder5387 Feb 11 '26
The benefit is he gets to tell people he jumped off a 20m tower with an axe. But actually this just screams adrenaline junkie, these type of people crave the intense feelings he was getting before the jump and the relief afterwards.

If there is a large pile of snow that you put that yourself so you can be absolutely sure it's only soft snow and nothing else, then it's actually pretty safe. There is 10 000 videos online of russians teens doing this from their apartments.

He was in the military. Did missions in I think Afghanistan? Got addicted to the adrenaline, and doing stuff like this is his outlet for that.
I dont know when in the timeline(before/during/after military) it happened, but at some point he started using steroids, and I imagine that contributes to his adrenaline seeking behavior.
Source: I grew up in the town he lives in. Don't really know him personally but our social circles have some peripheral overlap, we have been to some of the same parties etc.

Snow is a blanket and there could be incredibly dangerous rock formations or branches stacked up like spikes. Never do this. Not even slightly joking I live in a place 1000km north of the usa and snow is not only deep and you can break bones and twist easily just stepping into it but what's underneath will then hit you like a truck.
