She’s so upset!

129

u/thenameofapet Jan 28 '26

The singing is a self-soothing mechanism some people use when they’re stressed or uncomfortable. “La la la, everything is okay because I’m singing.” Something I noticed when I used to play poker for a living.

6

u/helpamonkpls Jan 28 '26

When i was a young surgeon I would catch myself humming during a quite catastrophic trauma in the bay, where I was responsible. I remember thinking to myself that it was sorta weird cause I never hum or sing (for good reasons it sounds like ass).

But i quickly realized I must seem calm to those around me but I was under immense pressure on the inside.

I feel like there's small number of people where they really are that way. The people with personalities of angels that you encounter every once in a while, the Mr. Rogers of the world. Poki is not that. Poki seems like the type of person to say a bunch of slurs in the mirror before stream to get it out of her system, and then the rest of the time she is forcing that unaffected angel thing through gritted teeth. It's not natural for her. It's like her customer service persona.

48

u/Bossgalka Jan 28 '26

I mean, there are recordings....

7

u/bluelighter Jan 28 '26

Go on...?

8

u/Bossgalka Jan 28 '26

No, unfortunately it's not THOSE types of recordings. She is still popular enough we won't get those yet. I was talking about her saying this.

I don’t think Pokimane is really even a champagne socialist, at least not to the extent Hasan is. She’s not politically engaged, she’s just pulled into the normie leftie “capitalism is bad and the cause of all my problems” perspective. She, along with many other streamers, is just an example as to why we don’t need streamers to give their opinions on political issues.

u/reddit_is_geh Jan 28 '26

These streamers make WAY more than people realize. People like to look at metrics and shit and always far undercut them. I think that dude MostCritical once openly admitted that over his career, he's made like 70m... And people were blown away because the metrics would have suggested something like 5-10

115

u/Sky19234 Jan 28 '26

And people were blown away because the metrics would have suggested something like 5-10

That's because very few people have openly spoken about what sponsors actually pay.

For example; I know firsthand that Reynad once made $250k an hour for 3 hours to stream some dogshit mobile game and that was almost a decade ago (as if that wasn't obvious from the name Reynad being dropped).

He did one of those streams every week, obviously not all for the same game, but that is how Tempo Storm stayed afloat for so long when they were in that era of sign every team possible (HS Creators, FGC people, TrumpSC, Overwatch, etc). Just those specific sponsored streams would have been ~$40M a year pre-tax.

70

u/MatasBuzelis Jan 28 '26

Sometimes I think about the time Northernlion did an entire McDonald's sponsored stream for like 4 hours with McDonalds shit on screen and McDonalds emotes in the chat and how incomprehensibly colossal that bag must have been to convince him to do that

I just know the figure he was presented with had to be absolutely dizzying, there is just no other way he would do something like that

48

u/Sky19234 Jan 28 '26

People often forget that what we as normal people view as generational wealth is often a rounding error worth of money for a lot of these companies.

We saw it in real time with the Overwatch League, people were amazed that investors would put tens of millions into this project with the idea that it would be the next NFL/NBA/etc when we knew that wasn't how gaming works.

What people failed to recognize is that we are talking about Billionaires that are used to paying $150-200m for a single player. Even if that $25M gets lit on fire it is, relatively speaking, a very minor cost to them.

I think Reynad is a spineless bitch for a lot of reasons but he gave contracts to a LOT of people by taking those arguably very sketchy sponsorship deals and I respect that.

30

u/MatasBuzelis Jan 28 '26

yeah in NL's case McDonalds made 26 billion fucking dollars in 2024 lol. Even if they offered him 5 million dollars for a sponsored stream to an engaged ~10k viewers that would be .02% of what they earned annually just across that single year. A literal fraction of a percent of a years worth of earnings for actual life changing money

God this is so disgusting to think about lmao

It's kinda funny how much they lack self awareness. That's how people become billionaires without feeling any guilt: they don't realise the money they have/spend is way more than what it takes to live comfortably, since their own minimum expendatures keep going up without them noticing. I think a big part of it is consumerism always making sure you spend more money the more you have.

Holy shit and we mock people in Japan that marry a pizza or a pixel girl hahahahahaha

How fucked up your personality must be for nobody to marry you being rich and reasonably attractive, then marry yourself

She took offense being called a billonaire, she though the guy was calling her "a broke girl" as she is only worth several millions.

she didn't even seem that upset? I mean yea sure she reacted to it which is telling in some capacity, but that title is just straight up clickbait lol.

I also see another case here of people not understanding just how much a billion is. a google search shows her net worth is $12 million at most, which is a lot, but a billion is a THOUSAND million. it's quite the difference

$12 million at most? These streamers make way, WAY more than u think. MostCritical showed his earnings on twitch to be $4.2m over the course of a year with 100k total subs. Pokimane between the years of 2018 and 2022 was sitting at close to 80k subs. So assume she'd make like $3m a year just during those 4 years - that puts her close to $12m in total income. Past 4 years she's probably made a quarter of that, but it's hard to say. Either way her twitch earnings alone are probably well over $15m based on MoistCritical earnings.

That doesn't even begin to include brand deals, merch, instagram, TikTok, YouTube, or any of the things that are what make these content creators uber wealthy. I don't think it's crazy to think she's earned in total 3-5x more than just her "subscription money" in other avenues. Safely saying she made like $35m in the years 2018-2022, paid around 40% in tax would put her at like $20m in that period. Assuming she invested in the stock market - which any half-witted financial advisor of hers would have her doing... lets just assume she put all that $20m in the market in 2021, for easier math. The S&P500 has grown 100% nearly since then, and is one of the absolute safest routes you could take investing - and probably a fair balance of her possibly investing much riskier and buying bonds or CD's or something.

So between 2018-2022 she made $12m, minimum just based on twitch subs. Assuming we take all revenue sources, of which she has many... by most other creator metrics it's not a stretch to assume she made like 3x that. Assume she made $36m then - or $21m after tax, is a pretty conservative guess. She invested 70% of that in just the year 2021 conservatively... her net worth would be probably back over $30m - very conservatively. Past 10 years, the S&P has grown 15% on average per year.

Assuming she has $30m in the S&P and it continues the same trajectory as the past 10 years - she will be worth over $100m in 8-9 years. In 25 years, they will be a hair under a billionaire assuming no major economic collapse. Saying she's worth $12m is pretty fuckin ridiculous, money compounds extremely fast when u are rich - and she is already super rich. She'll be worth hundreds of millions when she dies, almost guaranteed, unless she is an absolute imbecile with her money which it doesn't seem she is. At that point we'll see if she still thinks she'd donate most of it lol

Also, like, idgaf about Pokimane but channel this energy towards the actual people ruining the planet, not random internet celebrities.

u/SwordfishOk504 Jan 28 '26

right? I see not a shred of "upset" here at all.

How is banning one of thousands of rage baiters in any way worthy of so much vitriol from this sub?

Ya'll can hate her for actual drama pretty easily, no need to fabricate baseless drama with nonsensical clips like these. And if you guys think a ten-millionaire is even remotely close to a billionaire you really should retake some of your earlier math classes.

Stupid hate thread. The twitch comment was obviously mocking her, why'd she not ban them ? And she got upset because someone actively mocked them ? Okay, she's not some ancient greek stoic for whom the world slides on her, so what ?

The hate in this thread is intense. I don't watch Pokimane so I don't really get what's going on, but this level of hate directed towards a twitch streamer is not normal...and for such a minor comment as well. I recommend that people re-calibrate how much attention they give to people they don't like. This shit isn't healthy for your brain.

banned a viewer

look inside

14 day timeout

Which I guess you could consider a tempban but usually a user being banned from a twitch stream is permanent or indefinite
