Need Advice Got a theory, and I ain’t no scientist.
For a long time I have been through some wild wild stuff. I’ve had 154 stitches in my life, broken almost every bone, been stalked and arrested by federal agencies at the ripe age of 20. There’s been so many times where I totally should have died. (my fault) Always thought that in different worlds I probably did, but my consciousness is always on the timeline that keeps me alive.
Friends and partners I’ve been with have agreed with me, but idk. Wanted to just ask the public. Is it so wild to think that your consciousness transcends timelines/universes? Wtv the terms are. The same way we have no way of telling if colors look the same to everyone, we’d have no way to know if when someone in your life dies, their consciousness is in a different place where they still live?
Never been good at fully describing it, maybe yall can understand but I’m also open to more questions. Just wondering yall thoughts on that.

I think you have stumbled on to the theory of quantum immortality. There is a really interesting kurzgesagt video about it on YT which describes your theory similarly

Will definitely look into that! Awesome to be able to put a name to it, I knew I couldn’t be the first one to think of that. Thanks dawg!

I think it's a lovely thought, and some people apply similar ideas in their religions.

Always love experiencing other cultures an religions especially if I don’t understand it. If you could let me know which religions that you know of that incorporate these thoughts, that would be dope!

Well, for example people in the Christian religion believe that when they die, their consciousness, or 'soul', continues on forever in another place: 'Heaven' for "good" people, and 'Hell' for "bad" ones. They add an arbitrary layer of human judgement based on a specific kind of morality, but similar concept to your theory.
Personally, I love the idea that if I die, I actually keep going somewhere, I just don't know if I can buy into it.

Yeah I totally get what you’re saying. But what I was more so talking about is: rather than when you die ur soul continues on (which is generally a common concept in many religions.) I’ll give an example because it’s hard to explain, an example from my own experience at that
I live in a shitty neighborhood. There was once where I was caught in the middle of a shooting while walking to the store. It came so close it left burn marks on my jacket. Things like that have happened many times. I wonder, maybe in another timeline it did hit me, and that’s where it all ended. But instead of everything just going black, my conscience was transferred to a world where it didn’t hit me.
I still suck at describing it lol but I feel like u get the point

I like the optimism, but have you ever slept? Even with your components held perfectly intact, your consciousness ended recently and you didn't even notice.
Now imagine you have a really bad day, you feel really sick, you don't have the energy to do anything, you are too tired to breathe. You choke a little trying to jumpstart things again, and that feeling of holding your breath too long takes over for about 90 seconds. You fade, even with most of your senses gone, you're still somewhat in there, then that too becomes a jumbled mess, and it's over.
What gives you the right to wake up? If you do wake up, why should it accommodate your nervous system? Do you mean to tell me that a desktop OS can boot on a smartphone? That would be nice. If you have a soul, why was medicine able to modify it?
Treasure your life, spend your precious time with your loved ones. Make it a goal to reach satisfaction. If you've beaten the game before the trial is up, you got to experience the full game and nothing can take that from you.

That’s an interesting thing to take into consideration, this is exactly why I knew Reddit would be a good place to ask these questions. I knew I wouldn’t be getting a black and white answer, stuff like this just doesn’t have a set in stone truth. I’m gonna think about that while I’m doing my morning stretches and journaling. Thanks dawg!

Nono, I very much rather you don't think about that too much. It messed up my mental health. What was supposed to be a helpful comment ended up becoming my emotional outlet regarding my struggle with this topic.

Sorry dawg, it’s not something that weighs my heart down personally so thinking abt these things is more so interesting than depressing. I hope you can come out on top of that shit I know it ain’t easy. Thanks for taking the time to give your input anyway! Peace and love yo!

I’m also a good listener so if u gotta just vent to someone my PMs r open. I know from experience sometimes it feels better to have someone listen when u know they’re never really gonna see u again

Consciousness, like our souls, is eternal. So when we die yes our consciousness continues. Why is this interesting to you or why do you think it’s relevant. (I don’t disagree) Have you considered reading the bible

I have read the bible. Both New and Old Testament, this is something that those books touch on but not directly. I find it interesting more particularly because, like I said in the original post, there’s so many times where I came so close to dying and just lucked out. So many times to where it starts to not feel like a coincidence. But yeah, I’m not a particularly religious person but who knows? Maybe it was god or some guardian angel. All a part of a plan. Not religious myself, but who knows man. Thanks for the response dawg!

It is called quantum immortality. The main issue in my opinion is that you would have to explain your birth.

Consciousness is a product of the brain. When the brain dies, no more consciousness.
