I'm happy to announce that "Songs from the Land of Kalevala" is out. The official release will be held at Ropecon 2026 next weekend. You can order yours early from my Backerkit Campaign or come say hi at Ropecon at desk D109.

The book includes five adventures set in Iron-Age Finland. The players will be able to:
- Defend their village from vikings
- Go on a search for Rohtotohtori, a mysterious herbalist
- Discover a mysterious winter with sinister origins tied to Pukki (Yes, that Pukki)
- Die and go to Tuonela
- Reenact the events of Kalevala and go steal the Sampo from the Pohjola

The book also includes rules for running a campaign in mythological Finland, and even tips for playing legendary heroes like Väinämöinen and Ilmarinen.

Kokko is an Emuu, the mother of all birds of prey. Kokko controls the elemental power of fire and flap of its wings can cause huge forest fires. It is truly massive and very powerful, making a deadly foe or powerful ally.

Here is a quick look to some of the residents of Repola. This is a part of my newest adventure: Vikings!

Kanerva: Village Elder and a healer. She is very wise and is often seeked when help is needed when spiritual topics

Kyösti: A Tonttu who buys and sells everything, if only the price is agreed upon. He keeps his shop in an abandoned sauna at the edge of the village

Pihka & Jutta: Pihka is a young woman full of energy and will for adventure. Jutta is her best friend, a giant talking rat. They have never actually left the village but dream of great adventures.

Seppo: The smith of the village. He is a good man with a big heart. He is very skilled and produces all of the villages tools.

Untamo: The Village Chief and ex-warrior. When young, Untamo once saved the village from raiders and was elected as the chief. He now acts as the leader, deciding on important matters with the Elders.

Here is the handle of the mythical artifact Sampo. It was reforged by Norlandian dwarf vikings to serve as a warhammer. This artifact will be a part of my upcoming adventure - Vikings!

The adventure is ready, I still need to draw the art

Went to see "Kalevala: Kullervon tarina", a new movie telling the story of Kullervo from the Kalevala. Here are my thoughts:

pros:

​- Beautiful nature scenes. Very pretty forests, lakes and fells. Just amazing.

​- Very thematic, I think they got the iron-age forest-finns very right. Worth to watch for this alone.

​- loved the scenes that included Kalevala metre in songs or poems - the story was somewhat accurate to the version in Kalevala

​- Great acting for a finnish film! The character of Kullervo was believable.

cons:

- ​There was a sideplot of russians bringing christianity to finland. While historically accurate, this is not at all relevant in Kullervo's story

- ​the movie was kinda hard to follow, scenes jumping a lot. While being jumpy is typical for Kalevala, they tried to shoot this a typical movie so a weird experience

​- there were some viking runes in decoration. Not finnish

-​ Ending was not accurate to the original story and I think it was less powerful

- ​Väinämöinen's and Ilmarinen's characters are pretty weird in the movie.

Very weird film but still worth a watch!

Sammon puolustus (Defending the Sampo) by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, depicts a scene where Louhi is coming for the Sampo that Väinämöinen and his friends had rightfully stolen.

In my word, wizards get more power the more they know. If a wizard knows a lot about trees, they can bend them to their will. After a certain level of knowledge the wizard becomes one with the trees. This is the Old Magic.

Wizard battles with Old Magic are like rap battles. If your opponent says you are a dumb idiot who knows nothing of magic, you now are, provided they have studied the workings of a brain to a great detail. Words become reality in these battles.

Check out my Patreon for a more detailed review of Old Magic. My world is heavily inspired by Finnish Mythology and culture. It is a world where the gods still walk the earth and nobody knows what's in the woods. Heroes are able to shape the world to their liking, if they only survive the threats that this young world is full of. I use this world for D&D and have a ton of content for that on my Patreon and on the subreddit.

Temple of Lemminkäinen was originally built to be demigod Lemminkäinen's tomb, when he died during the events of Kalevala. After his resurrection, the tomb was repurposed by his followers to be a place of worship, where Lemminkäinen's devotees would pray to the demigod and study his teachings.

Now the temple is sealed and nobody has gotten inside for a hundred years. The legend says that to get the stony door to open, one must solve a riddle of some sorts. After that you will be inside a spirally hallway, getting deeper and deeper into the ground. The temple has countless rooms, some have supplies, some ancient artifacts and some riches beyond imagination.

Sampo was a mythical artifact capable of creating infinite amounts of salt, grains and gold. It was destroyed in the Battle of Sampo, its parts scattering to the ocean.
