Citizenship Advice

Upvotes

Hey guys! I’m about to submit my citizenship application for Canada and the pre-filing anxiety is definitely kicking in.
Before I lock this in, I want to do a final double-check. What are the most common silly mistakes or overlooked details that cause delays, rejections.
If you've been through this, what is the one thing you’re glad you double-checked .Any advice is highly appreciated!

Study Permit Previous Express Entry profile affected study visa??

Upvotes

Hi there! I am currently in the process of applying for a Canadian study visa from outside Canada and I just realized from my IRCC account that I had created a profile to be in the Express Entry pool 3 years ago. I did not submit anything but just created a profile and since it was incomplete, I received a message that I was ineligible to be in the pool the next day. Is this something that I should mention and explain in my Letter of Explanation? How should I explain it so that it doesn't affect my application negatively? Thanks.

Other PRTD Process

Upvotes

Received my ecoPR in February of 2026 and now we are in July 2026. My first PR picture was denied and I sent the second one on May 5th (today is July 16, 2026). I need to visit my family in Brazil next month and was wondering if someone ever traveled before getting their PR and how was the process to get your PRTD to come back.

I’m hoping I get my PR by then, but was wondering if it would be safe for me to go, since it’s an important family matter

Working Holiday 4 years still waiting

Hi, I’m writing this bottle to the sea to see if there’s any similar experience, support or ideas that can help me during this long journey…
I’ve been waiting for a Working Holiday for now 4 years, with no success. I’ve been struggling with some technical issues last year but it seems to be resolved now.

My boyfriend is waiting for me there and it’s been a dream of mine as a French girl to live in BC…
Hearing people say they got theirs in a week is killing me ! I’m starting to wonder if there’s a problem within my profile. PR could be a solution but I won’t have that much points without working in Canada before, and a working permit seems impossible to obtain if you don’t know someone in the company. I wanna do this well and respectfully of the government.

Is there anyone else is that situation ? People that figured it out ?
Thank you 🙏

Sponsoring my girlfriend (common law) for an inland sponsorship. Her pgwp expires in Dec 2028. Is this enough time to live in for a year and get her paperwork processed and also get her OWP before her PGWP expires? We will be moving in together October this year

Study Permit Why Study in Canada at All?

If deciding to come to Canada and eventually become a PR, why waste your money on being an international student when obtaining French proficiency from your own country looks like a better option?

Work Permit ONIP nomination got cancelled

Hi,
I came in canada in 2021 and completed my diploma in 2023.
I got job as field service technician in jan 2024 Teer 2 job. I applied in ONIP international student stream and got nominated in November 2024 and within 1week in Nov 2024 I filed my PR (My nomination had employer restriction) . After applying pr i didn't get anything and in October2025 I received AOR and linked my account.
I was working for speed camera in ontario and in December 2025 Doug ford decided to shutdown speed camera and the company i was working for got shutdown and everyone gets terminated. I had only 4months left on my work permit.
After 2weeks of signing termination letter I received post nomination information letter from ONIP and my employer replied the job is no longer and we got shutdown because of government decision. And i also replied same showing all the evidence it was not my fault for loosing job. After 2months i received Intent to cancel nomination from ONIP
i tried contacting many immigration lawyers everyone had same answer you can't do anything. But i was searching for jobs and luckily one big company hired me i got job when i had 2months left on my work permit but they don't support any immigration related help. I thought getting a similar job and showing that to ONIP would save my nomination so i took the job at that time in March. Till that time i didn't received anything from ONIP and in May i filed Dummy work permit, i was not eligible for BOWP because of restriction in nomination.
last week i received cancelation of nomination from ONIP and they will inform to ircc. So now i have decided to join a college and apply for study permit as soon as i get acceptance letter form collage. I will complete my bachelor in 1year because of my diploma there is a bachelors course i can complete in 3 semester one semester being internship.
Next year after completing bachelors my CRS score will be 513.

My question is will there be risk for study permit being approved?
Can i leave canada next year and complete 1year foreign experience then apply Express entry will i be eligible under CEC?

Citizenship Citizenship Application

Has anyone applied for Canadian citizenship on their own? Is it better to do it yourself or hire a lawyer? If you hired one, were they worth it, and are there any affordable options?

Also, does the YMCA, the City of Hamilton, or any other organization help review or complete citizenship applications for free?

Visitor Visa Supervisa stay

Good day! My mother-in-law will be arriving in Canada this August on a Super Visa. We purchased one year of health insurance for her, but we’re planning for her to stay for at least two years.
If the border officer asks how long she’ll be staying, is it okay to say that she plans to stay for two years and that we’ll purchase another year of health insurance before the current policy expires? Or should we simply say she’ll be staying for one year?

thank you!

Citizenship Third Generation Immigration Help.

Hello, I am a 21 year old female American citizen. I have been wanting to immigrate to Ontario, Canada through my deceased (1923-1974) Canadian born great grandfather for a long time now but I am paranoid I do not have enough legal evidence of proof of descent, of how to go about it without going broke as I work minimum wage, as well as confused on where to start the legal process.
I am also, as this may be helpful, getting married to my Canadian born partner later this year.

I am hoping for dual citizenship but I will ultimately take what I can get, though my entire immediate family now resides in Michigan where I grew up and still live so dual is preferred.

My Canadian great grandfather was born in Ontario in 1923, his parents in Ontario as well in 1869 and 1880. Nobody of his direct descent can find his birth certificate nor is interested in immigration so I have been alone in my journey regarding this.
I do have my great grandfathers death certificate (D-1974) where he's written down as an American citizen born in Canada as well as an "1950 CENSUS OF POPULATION AND HOUSING" American census report with him appearing on the sheet marked as having been born in Canada and marked down as "No" under the question of if he is neutralized. I also have a boat manifest form ("Michigan, Detroit Manifests of Arrivals at the Port of Detroit") where he is marked down with his nationality being Canadian. Along with that I have all the birth certificates (besides his) leading down to my very own. I have been told by my grandmother, his daughter, that soon after his death in 1974 Canada had tried to deport him back to Ontario but he was already deceased so nothing was done, as you'd imagine.
His daughter, my grandmother, is still alive as well as a few of her siblings but none are interested in assisting me in legal forms or legal matters though are otherwise supportive of my interest in immigration.

My ultimate fear, like mentioned, is that my papers and files are not enough linking evidence of relation, of costs, or that I will somehow miss something or mess something up and be sent to the back of the line when I'm nearly there.
I also genuinely do not know where to begin even though I have been trying my best for a while now.

I am not typically a reddit user so I apologize for any faults.

Other Immigration for masters

Hi there! I've been thinking of moving to Canada and for my personal situation I have to get a student visa to study masters there. I have a bachelor's of Computer Engineering and I have been interested in the more artistic paths of computer programs. So far I have found out Multimedia is the closest major to my likings. During my bachelor's my final project was a bookstore website. I also have found a bit of interest in databases yet I don't know enough about them to know what branch would be suitable for me. Which master programs do you suggest? Which universities are good in terms of internships and funding. All I have is 14000$ and I definitely need a big amount of funding, if not a full fund.

My experiences: I have worked an internship in a web development company for a few months, and I have 6 months of experience in a company's IT department and I still work there. I've never done a research or published a paper. My GPA for bachelors converted to the Canadian system would be B+ I believe. I have French B1 Delf, currently studying for B2 exam. I don't have an English certificate yet but I have studied C2 about 6 years ago so my English is a bit rusty at the moment but I believe I can achieve a great score with a bit of studying. There's nothing on my GitHub or LinkedIn at the moment since I didn't have the time to go over them but I'm building a few projects for my resume so they'll be ready by the time It's time to apply.

Study Permit Study Permit exstantion

I was issued a study permit that's valid for only 90 days after I finish high school. However, I want to take upgrading courses, which could take up to a year before I can apply for university.

How can I extend my study permit for another year to complete these upgrading courses?

PNP BC PNP URGENT pls help

I received a BC pnp invite today - however my current wage does not meet the median wage of my NOC code in my region. I meet the cut off points though for this draw, is the median wage a mandatory requirement?
I haven’t seen anything specific regarding the wage median requirement in the program guide, just that it should be in the range and competitive. Does that mean that it should be somewhere between low and high range for NOC code wage?

I am not sure if I should accept the invite or not?

I would be really grateful if someone could let me know if they were able to qualify despite not meeting the median wage cutoff?
(Also I was invited under the points cutoff of 132 drawn today - my score is 133)

Family Sponsorship Spousal sponsorship inland vs outland recommendation?

I'm a Canadian PR, engaged a few years back, married in late 2025. My spouse was in Canada for several years as a student, completed a degree, and currently holds a valid PGWP (3-year, work permit already in hand). Returned to Canada in mid-2026 on a TRV.

Our situation for the inland/outland decision:

  • Since spouse already has a valid PGWP, doesn't need the inland stream's work permit benefit can already work anywhere.
  • We're leaning outland for faster processing + appeal rights, but staying in Canada under dual intent while it processes.

Does outland still make sense over inland in your experience? Anyone gone through something similar recently. how did processing time and the overall experience compare?

Public Policy pathways PR Non accompanying Common Law - Separation post ITA?

Hello, I have a huge issue with this, I was honest in declaring the current situation with my long term partner at the time of the application and I stated from the get go that he was non accompanying.

This is a very delicate situation personally because the mere thought of me going to Canada is sickening to him, and he has no intention of coming whatsoever.

Now that I received the ITA, they wanted to know the abosulte entire history of his, last 10 years worth of jobs, activity, travel and his whole immediate family. He accepted to help me fill this out but I was absoloutely ashamed and embarassed.

I move on to the next page and next thing I know they want his medical exam which costs £400 where I live, his Police certificate which costs £70 and whatever else. This is JUST NOT POSSIBLE at all. We will be separated when I go, with no turning back. I cannot waste money on this and I certainly cannot impose this on him. I feel I should tell them we are separated but I don't know what will come of my application then.

We keep all our finances separate and he has nothing to do with this!! I really regret saying I had a partner now :( Someone help me with advise please!

Thank you!

For info my score was 493 - French Draw min was 420 and I got 0 point for my partner, so I really dont understand what I need to prove to them!

We keep all our finances separate, no common savings or ownership, not property owners, no kids, no legal union of any sort, we are not civil partners or anything at all

Work Permit Official transcript not showing % of classes in person vs online - PGWP

Hello everyone, I graduated recently and I am preparing my PGWP application. IRCC requires that at least 50% of your studies were in person. I am sure I took about 80% classes in person so Im chillin, however I reached out to my uni asking whether my completion letter or official transcript (which I haven't received yet) will show this requiremnet. They told me those documents typically don't show that info, so Im like.. then how am I supposed to prove that point for IRCC in my application? - So, I want to know if anyone has had similar experiences or knows how to go about this?
