General Discussion πŸ’¬πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ A year ago, I shared The Generall Store here. It's finally live. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

About a year ago (time flies!), I shared The Generall Store here and was blown away by the support, feedback, and business submissions:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyCanadian/comments/1i7flh2/list_all_canadian_businesses_here_on_this_website/

A lot of the suggestions people shared ended up shaping what the platform became, so thank you!!

The site now includes:

  • Community pages
  • Local events from community calendars
  • Promotions from local businesses
  • Hidden gems
  • Business login access
  • Hundreds of local businesses

The goal is still the same: make it easier to discover great local businesses and see what's happening in your community without jumping between Facebook groups, Instagram, Google, event calendars, and everything else.

We're soft-launching now and I'm excited (and slightly nervous) to finally share it.

https://thegenerall.store/

If you have a few minutes, I'd love for you to take a look and let me know what you think - especially in your own community.

Questions β“πŸ€” Maple washing

How many people that WANT to buy Canadian don't trust the Red Maple leaf Sticker on the product , ( Meat ,veggies , fruit etc ) .... As an Example only... Walmart this week has Ice burg lettuces on sale and says Product of Canada would you trust Walmart or any other store for that matter , we have been for most part staying away from salads for the last 5 years or so because we quite often see recalls do to salmonella and E coli but have followed our neighbors on buying fresh produce and making your own salads , but for just 2 of us we end up with a lot of wilted & browning Veggies after a week

Review πŸ“’ MOOZ Deodorant

Post image
7 Upvotes

I needed some deodorant ASAP after I dropped my last stick on the floor. I had been using SONDR which I had no issues with, but ordering it on well.ca takes at least a few days for delivery and I didn’t have time for that so I started browsing Amazon and found this MOOZ company. At $18.99, it’s not cheap and the scents that were available did not really get me excited. But it’s hot as hell and I needed deodorant, so after some research, I figured that Pepper and Bergamot would be the best for me.

I’ve only used it for a couple of days but I am extremely happy with my decision. You can order it directly from them and they offer free shipping if you buy two sticks, which is unheard of. I had previously tried LATHR and had no issues with it, but it requires a $100 purchase for free shipping. Also, MOOZ has β€œDiscovery Kits” that come with 3 full sticks and 3 samples for $50 which allows you to sample all of their scents.

It didn’t seem like this product had been mentioned before, so I wanted to let people know.

Looking For: Clothing, Accessories & Personal Care πŸ‘•πŸ’„πŸ‘œπŸ Looking for a non-gentle unscented shampoo with sulfates

Hey all, I'm looking for ideally a Canadian, but otherwise non-American unscented or fragrance-free shampoo that isn't gentle. It seems fragrance-free goes hand-in-hand with gentle stuff.

I have thin and fine straight hair. I tried the Unscented Company but it's so gentle I have to wash my hair 3x every other day. Philip Adam Clarifying was a bit better and I can stretch to 3 days, but I still need to use it 3x.

I looked into Carina Organics, Attitude, and Oneka but their unscented stuff all seems to be of the gentle variety as well.

I just need that harsh, cheap drugstore shampoo with all the sulfates. But no added scents and not American. And the cheaper the better. Anything out there?

Eta: I can't do anything mildly scented; I'm severely allergic, and I don't need to train my hair. I used to wash my hair every 4-5 days with double shampoo using a drugstore shampoo. I'm just looking for an unscented, non-American, non-"sulfate-free" replacement.

Canadian-Owned Businesses 🏒🍁 Shouting out a Canadian custom neon sign company!

I just wanted to share my experience with a Canadian custom neon sign company in case anyone else is looking for one :)

I run a small business and needed a pretty detailed logo turned into a sign. I ended up finding Nightglow Studio through chatgpt after comparing a bunch of Canadian companies, Etsy shops, and overseas sellers.

The turnaround was so fast! It was honestly kind of crazy.. I had my sign in 7 days!!! Considering it was custom-made, I was genuinely shocked.

I also liked that they're based in Vancouver. I didn't have to think about customs or duties, and with all the tariff stuff lately I really wanted to support another fellow Canadian business.

Originally was planning to order from overseas, but once I added up the shipping, taxes, duties, and the longer wait time, the price difference honestly wasn't much. Plus it saved me the anxiety of wondering whether I'd actually get what I wanted.

Kinda random but while I was researching, I found out they also do installations, which was nice because a lot of the companies I looked at just ship you the sign and you're on your own.

I just wanted to give them their flowers because I had such a smooth experience from the design proof all the way to delivery. The sign turned out exactly how I wanted, so I'd definitely order from them again if I ever need another one.

Hope this helps someone out there :)

Canadian-Owned Businesses 🏒🍁 Peace collective experience

I know this isn’t the first thread. May not be the last. On April 26th I placed an order for my mom a big blue jays fan - because from what I could tell there isn’t a whole lot of officially licensed merchandise. Although I respect the zero waste and made to order…. I ordered a sweater that said ship date expected was June 11th. Well it’s now been 80 days since the order they told me July 13th was now expected. Frustrating company to say the least. Which sucks because the graphics they offer are lovely. I did order a shirt and it was medium. Thought it would be a cute baggy shirt for her. Well instead it fit my dad who’s 200+ pounds. So medium is more like an XL. Anyways was a fail of a Mother’s Day gift. Not sure if I’ll ever order again after this long awaited order

Looking For: Home Goods & Essentials πŸ‘πŸ›οΈπŸ Recommendations for Canadian bed frame company making simple wooden bed frames

What I really want to know is if there is a western Canadian company making bed frames similar to this.

https://i.imgur.com/iYr9W2w.jpeg

https://www.d40studio.com/products/ziggy-bed?variant=39865004720209

Its from a European company and I happy to buy from the EU, but I'd like to try support Canadian first (and minimise shipping distance).

And really I'd be happy to hear any recommendations for good Canadian bed/bed frame companies.

Looking For: Food & Consumables πŸ₯«πŸ Canadian Fruit

Has anyone noticed Canadian fruit in grocery stories is very limited this year?

Mostly what I can find is more eat it like a vegetable type of fruit, like cucumbers.

I'm in Edmonton, so not an ideal location but even on vacation in mid June in BC I couldn't find local fruit in grocery stores - just at Farmer's Markets.

I have been trying to seek things out that would be in season here. Last year the Canadian were great!

Especially with the cyclosporine outbreak in the US it would be nice to have Canadian berries!

Was it a bad year for fruit growers? Or are grocery stores just not sourcing well? Or I'm just unlucky with shopping timing?

Questions β“πŸ€” Driscolls raspberries - are they actually Canadian?

Hi folks. I haven't gotten to enjoy raspberries in awhile due to not finding any Canadian ones - but noticed recently at Save-On that Driscolls raspberries now have a little maple leaf, and claim to be a product of Canada. I noticed a few others labelled as from the US, and a few from Mexico.

Curious if anyone knows if this is legitimate! I searched their website and articles for any indication of where they source their Canadian raspberries, and came up empty. I am more wary eating any produce that may be from the US to the current cyclosporiasis outbreak.

(Additionally, if anyone in the Vancouver area knows where I can buy local raspberries, I'd love to hear it.)

Questions β“πŸ€” Send cut send

Is there a Canadian alternative to Send Cut Send?

If you don't know Send cut send is a fast turnaround, low part count machining service. The sort of place where you can design a part that you need made out of sheet metal or a solid block, upload the design to them, and they will make the part for you and ship it out.

It fills a gap between the smaller local machine shops (who take time to set up every process and costs a fair bit for low volume) , and the industrial manufacturing shops (who want you to order thousands of the same part before they'll talk to you)

Looking For: Services & Shops πŸ›’πŸ’» Best local arts/crafts and clothing stores in downtown Toronto?

Hi everyone!

Living in a small town in New Brunswick, I am excited to visit Toronto where at least in my view, I think there should be more options to support Canadian brands and I'm hoping to find some nice clothes and crafts when there. I only have a couple of days there and will be restricted staying relatively close to downtown and depending on public transportation. I've been browsing all discussions here but got a bit overwhelmed, so I thought I'd make a post to find recommendations of where to shop.

I am especially looking for nice linen or linen-blend shorts, good quality t-shirts or woollen cardigans/sweaters, and always looking for nice local crafts or art. I'm travelling with hand luggage only, so severe limitations on cosmetics and larger items.

Any tips are appreciated, thanks!

EDIT: If it helps, I am female, mid-30s and love to walk!

General Discussion πŸ’¬πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Theorique Deoderant - a warning

So not only did this company basically rip off Super Deodorants product they are also taking a page from how Super Deoderant polices their Facebook page: allowing only positive comments about their product and blocking those that share that their deodorant didn’t work for them. I left a couple comments about how their deodorant didn’t work for me on their Facebook and instagram page and that I had emailed them to take them up on their guarantee that if their deo didn’t work I could return it and they’d offer a full refund but they never answered any of my emails or comments or even messaged me on Facebook or instagram. Instead I was blocked from their IG and Facebook. They are blatantly lying about their guarantee of a refund if their deodorant doesn’t work. Have a look at all the genuine reviews on their trust pilot profile, they’re 99% negative. Just awful. And so is their deodorant.
