Bad Neighbors Update: Neighbors using my ac unit as a dryer for their clothes

Post image
Upvotes

I took yalls advice and put the clothes down in the grass last night, this morning they're back on and both bricks are on top. Lol.

I already did report it, but a lot of you guys said "to talk to them", this is why I don't talk to people, they never listen.

"Oh my clothes have clearly been moved! Oh well let me not take a hint and put them back on"

Maintenance Issues Neighbors won't leave me alone over my thermostat

Post image
527 Upvotes

This is my first apartment paid for by my first job, a shitty 1k/mo studio with all utilities included, because it used to be an office space in the complex and they legally can't charge me with all the utilities still connected to the whole building. One whole wall is floor to ceiling windows, same with the lobby I'm next to, with the only air circulation being a few floor vents and one giant outtake vent in my wall(that people can see into)

In the winter it gets cold, in the summer it gets hot. Last year I'd made plenty of complaints about my thermostat. I had it on 58 and it stayed at 76 for months. They didn't even show me my AC unit, I just know it's "somewhere in the basement." Well its back this year, Ive had it under 68 for over two months and it has stayed between 74-78. I've called maintenance twice, they look and say it's fixed and nothing changes. The last time they didn't even tell me anything. At this point I don't even care, I have plenty of fans.

This old lady across from me, along with other random units, have bitched at me in passing that I'm making it too hot and I need to turn it down in the lobby(where no one fucking sits anyway??). I brushed it off. I was gone all day today and came home to a cowardly note on my door not even signed by any particular unit but I know it's this lady, begging me to turn it down cuz I'm making it hot in the lobby. I have obsessive compulsive disorder, I'm already extremely paranoid by the windows as a young woman living alone, I don't need to worry about people banging on my door in a witch hunt for me.

I emailed my building manager asking for help getting these people to leave me alone. I'm going to wait and see what she says, but I'm so tired of this. If you're not paying my rent, go back where you pay for the thermostat. I don't know why these people even know my thermostat controls the lobby ac, or how I'm the one living there at the moment. I'm not sure what I'm within my rights to do or what course of action to take, I just want these naggy old ladies to mind their business. Attached is the note, which I put below my thermostat as it was when I got home

Bad Neighbors Neighbor using my ac unit to dry their clothes

Post image
653 Upvotes

Usually I'm one to mind my buisness as my downstairs neighbor doesn't seem to own a dryer. They usually hang their clothes outside on the property line fence, which i really don't care about. But using my units ac to dry your clothes? In the middle of summer?

Im not gonna suffer with a broken ac because of someone using something that isn't theirs.

Advice Needed Just Curious What Others Think

Post image

Just got this email from my property manager. As a property manager myself, not where I currently rent from, I find this to be wildly inappropriate and unprofessional. I can’t ever imagine sending out a message like this to my tenants.

And all the video shows is a black car backing out of a parking spot. Nothing else. And the wording of “suspicious” has always bothered me. So they didn’t do anything wrong that you know of, they just appeared “suspicious?” That’s pretty subjective.

Am I overreacting? I mean I’m not mad, I just find it unusual.

Venting If you’re gonna clean your bedroom late at night …

Stop fucking being super loud about it. Why the bloody fuck do you need to slam doors, slam the dryer lid, stomp and bang loudly on whatever it is.

Like clean or whatever if you need, but Jesus tap dancing Christ…It’s midnight.

And tenants wonder why “nobody likes me here.” Or “you’re being a Karen”.

God I cannot wait to get a house once I find a new job.

Edit: cute bats chirping and flying around outside though. ♥️

Advice Needed Would you say anything or just deal with it?

need to know if I’m being unreasonable.
My downstairs neighbor’s kid recently joined band and started playing the saxophone. He practices almost every evening, but it’s usually broken up into like 4 different sessions that last anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. He always stops by 10, and quiet hours don’t start until 11.
I know they’re technically not doing anything wrong, but hearing a saxophone on and off all evening is getting old.
Would you say something and ask if they could maybe keep it to one practice session, or would you just accept that’s part of apartment living?

Maintenance Issues Maintenance walked in when I was undressed

I just wanted to get other people’s experiences to understand how common it is to have maintenance walk in without calling.
I put in a maintenance request, and it asks if you want a call or email. I chose call. They didn’t call, they knocked in the afternoon. I was off that day and let them in. They said that they needed to have someone else come back the next day.
Next day comes, and it’s around 9am. As I’m walking from the bedroom to the living room, with no clothes on, I hear a knock. I get no father than a step or two when suddenly I hear a man’s voice. I had to run back and grab a shirt and pants from a basket and barely got clothes on before he turned the corner. If I had not been quick, they would have walked in on me in no bra and just underwear.
What if I had been naked in bed? Feeling a bit unnerved.

Venting Ignorant Neighbour

Upvotes

So I moved into a ground floor flat about 1 year ago, there are 8 flats in my block and 2 other connected blocks. 4 floors 2 front door side by side. I own my flat but think they just rent but have been here a number of years. Every one else is cheery and says hello or smiles/nods for the most part. My direct neighbour on my floor has ignored me from day one. They are a family of 4 whereas I live by myself with two cats. Both adults ignore me. They have two young kids about 4-5 and 7-8. They are really noisy but I have never complained to them or anyone, they slam doors, have loud conversations on the balcony which is right next to mine, shout at their kids playing in the communal garden which is right in front of my balcony and theirs. It’s an all day late evening thing nearly every day. Whenever Amazon delivers he is always delivering to them as well and sometimes if I have a heavy box I am dragging across my doorstep and the husband comes home he just stares and walk past. I just find it so odd not to even smile. I certainly don’t expect him to help with a parcel though. This bit has happened 4 or 5 times including today.

We even have a cupboard in the communal area for our electric meter and when the electric company I was changing meter over to a smart one the engineer from the company and I was talking by it in the hallway and the woman neighbour came out of her flat and was trying to over hear our conversation and left her front door open.

Am I overthinking and they are just ignorant? They definitely speak friendly to others in the building so not sure why they have any issue with me, I don’t have any noisy music or parties. I wfh a lot but that is silent work. Just bugs me. Anyone else have neighbours like this for no reason.

Advice Needed Should I tell my landlord I’ll have no data for a week?

Upvotes

Hey guys, so based on how it’s looking I’ll be moving into my first apartment at the end of the month. I have a cruise planned for mid August and won’t have data though so I’m just not sure if I should let my landlord know in case he needs anything from me, I don’t want him to think I’m ignoring him or something. Idk I’ve never had a landlord lol

Bad Neighbors Advice to lower floors with upstairs neighbors from hell

Hi. I’ve had my fair share of living below someone who stomps and somehow drops shit every 2 fucking minutes, all hours of the day.
I strongly recommend the “MUSICOZY Sleep Headphones Bluetooth 5.4 Headband” from Amazon. I blare white noise from it for probably 10 hours a day, majority when im sleeping. It helps drown out stomping noises 99% of the time, and I can’t sleep without it.
Hope this helps bring some of you a little more peace while living in sub par conditions. To those of you who have downstairs neighbors: chances are you are a natural stomper without knowing it. Either walk lightly, buy some rugs, or wear slippers in the apartment to avoid being a nuisance. Thank you.

Advice Needed Deodorant for scale, need advice...

Post image

Long story short, there was a misunderstanding about how hot a metal bowl can get. The bowl was filled with oils and herbs and lit on fire. Why this wasn't outside, I do not know. Why it was on the carpet I do not know.

What I do know, is 2 people left this fire unattended (yes I know) and when I saw it unattended and going up in huge flames, I rushed to a water bottle and we put it all out.

Now, there's a giant burn mark in the carpet from where the bowl was and I'm not sure if it's even repairable or patchable, and I'm curious if it's just easier to say goodbuy to our deposit

Advice Needed Need advice about a lease takeover.

I’m planning to take over an apartment lease. I have a job, but my income is not very high. My wife doesn’t work, and we have a 2-year-old daughter. Only the three of us will be living in the apartment.
I’m thinking of applying like this:
Me – primary applicant (I will live there)
My father-in-law – co-applicant (he will not live in the apartment)
My brother-in-law – co-signer/guarantor (he will not live there either)
Is this arrangement usually allowed for a lease takeover? Has anyone done something similar? Or would the landlord require my father-in-law to be listed as a guarantor instead of a co-applicant since he won’t be living there?
I’d appreciate any advice or experiences. Thanks!

I moved to my first apartment a month ago. at the end of june, I had a work order and maintenance came. they told me they had lost the copy of my key and needed to rekey my door and gave me new keys. i didn’t think anything of it but yesterday they had the annual fire alarm check thing and I wasn’t home but seen the same maintenance guy that rekeyed my door knocking on my door. i answered my ring doorbell and told them i’m not home but they could come inside and he told me they lost my keys again. this just feels very odd. twice and i’ve only been here for a little over a month.

Flex Pay Flex App Doesn't Update?

I really don't know what to make of this. I went to go into the Flex app cuz I needed to change my 2nd payment date to next Friday. See the message to update the app, cool. Hit the update button....Google Play doesn't show the update button. Weird. Check the apps that need updating list manually and it still doesn't show up, and it actually updated already (roughly 6 days ago) so I'm not sure what the freak is happening. I'm freaking out a bit because I don't want the app to take out my whole paycheck....

Apartment Maintenance What can be used to cover these exposed sharp pipes left after radiator removal?

Post image

We got the notice two days ago that our apartment is switching heating systems apparently. Today they came and removed all the old radiators but now these freshly cut sharp pipes are exposed and could easily be stepped on by us or our cats. No word on when they are putting in the new heating units. Any ideas on what can be used to temporarily cover these, preferably something heavy our cats can’t move or play with?? Thank you!

Bad Neighbors Dog Barking Nonstop for Months

Hi everyone! I’m curious if anyone has ever dealt with ongoing, nonstop dog barking in an apartment complex and what (if anything) helped resolve it.

I have a dog myself and am absolutely a dog lover, so this isn’t coming from someone who doesn’t understand that dogs bark occasionally. I’ve lived in several apartments over the years and have never experienced anything like this.

For months now, I’ve been dealing with constant barking that disrupts my sleep and ability to relax in my own home. It’s gotten to the point where I’m moving my mattress into my living room just to sleep peacefully some nights. I’ve reached out to apartment management multiple times, provided recordings, and unfortunately nothing meaningful has been done.

I’m starting to feel a little defeated and would love to hear if anyone has gone through something similar or has any advice on what finally worked. Thanks in advance!

Advice Needed Early Morning Wake-up Call

I live in a one bedroom one bath apartment. My bedroom shares a wall with my (newly moved in) neighbor's kitchen (all of his cabinets are on said wall). Every weekday morning I'm woken up at 530am to the cabinets banging shut and sometimes pots and pans clanging while I assume he makes his breakfast/unloads the dishwasher. I work pretty late most nights and prefer to wake up around 730 which is when my alarm is supposed to go off :/ I'm pretty sure he knows my bedroom shares a wall with his kitchen bc he has heard me groan and audibly say "OH MY GOD" in moments of frustration through our paper thin walls. He also has the exact same layout for his apartment (I can see through both of our windows from the street). Should I try to catch him in the hallway and just mention this in passing? Should I leave a kind note introducing myself and mentioning this just so he's aware? What would be the best approach to get the point across without creating an enemy. TIA!

Advice Needed How thoroughly do you clean before moving out of an apartment?

Hi all,

This may sound like a very dumb question, but how thoroughly do you clean your apartment prior to moving out? I guess I am looking for what would be acceptable as I have been on an unexpected medical leave from work since May, my lease was already ending at the end of July and I had already given notice I was moving out prior to getting sick. They did let me extend my lease by one month so now I have until the end of August.

I very much want to leave the apartment in pristine condition, but I have been so sick the last couple of months (GI problems-found out it's a chronic illness), finally starting to feel a little better but man am I super weak and tire out so easily now just from being sick the last couple of months.

Would it be worth it to hire cleaners? My security deposit was $500 and I'm guessing hiring cleaners would eat up a good chunk of that.

I do have a couple of people who have some time here and there to help me, but will have to do the majority myself. It's only an issue bc of how deconditioned I am from being sick.

Thanks for any advice!

Advice Needed Mysterious black line

Post image
3 Upvotes

My boyfriend and I moved into this apartment a year ago and we’re moving out now. These black lines were where our bed was against the wall but we have no idea what it’s from. We have black sheets and black pillow cases and that’s our best guess, but there’s numerous mysterious lines. We’ve tried a magic eraser and Clorox wipes and it’s not doing anything. What to we do? We have to give the landlord the keys tomorrow.

Advice Needed I Hear Noises In My Room

Hello! I wanted to ask help about this becouse frankly its driving me insane and im going to extreme lengths to find out what this is and where these sounds are even coming from, Please help me in this situation i find myself.

There are weird noises coming from everywhere in my room, for example;

Bzt-bzt-bzt

Tik-tik-tik

Ert-ert-ert

Croak-croak-croak

Faint falcon/eagle caw sound

3 quick scratches.

Scratching sound on drywall

Etc...

Coming from many directions, when i turn to look at where the sound is coming from there is nothing there, its almost like a sound is slipping through another dimension and coming through to ours with no trace, I feel like im losing it completely.

It comes from the ceiling, the ground, my wooden bed frame, my shoe boxes, my floor, my carpet etc. After the 3 style noises stop the noises happen in a different location with a different sound. Its almost like the sound doesnt exist and is all in my head.

I cant sleep and its driving me insane, what is this?

Sounds are happening as im typing this.

There are some patterns

It stops randomly at certain times and doesnt come back.

Sound happens in 3 paces

Sound moves after it stops always and never happens in the same spot with the same sound twice in a row.

What is this? PLEASE help me!
