Heading West on Pandora there is the light at Fernwood and Cook that seem to go green for 5 seconds before changing. Always jammed up even though it's not that busy. Douglas and Blanshard are near the same where the traffic shouldn't be busy, but the red lights stop you at near every block. And it seems there are a number of other hotspots all over.
It wasn't like this even just a few weeks ago. But it's jamming up the cars and I assume wasting (expensive) gas as we're forced to start and stop all the time and again, jam up traffic.
Is it just because of all the Road Destruction that has all the traffic lights mistimed so that you can't get a green streak anymore? I even saw some dude on Blanshard with a cardboard sign mentioning something about the traffic when I got trapped heading North around the Hillside intersection.
What's going on with this?

Man maybe this post is unnecessary and will get removed , but I want to thank you all who told me the egypt exhibit at the museum was good and that it was easy to escape if I got way to excited. It was seriously epic ,the screens and ear phone things , the god damn tomb , mummies coffins , amazing , honestly. I did get very excited and my heart raced like crazy , but there was benches and I did my breathing. I walked out of there like a hero. As a bonus I went to the imax movie after and it blew my god damn head clean off . I loved it ,it was a big day for me and I thank you all. Have a good one you lovely people

I contracted Cyclosporiasis in late May.
I now see that Taylor Farms is believed to be the source for the midwest outbreak.
Taylor Farms is supplier of lettuce products to British Columbia, both at retail and in food service.
The timing for me only makes sense for a burrito I got from Chipotle as I prefer to cook at home and for lettuce I always buy hydroponic living lettuce.
So, I'm curious if anyone else in Victoria or area also got Cyclosporiasis?

Saanich Fusion Football Club has issued a public apology after one of its teams was disqualified from the BC Soccer Provincial Championships in Nanaimo.
According to the club, after both teams had already qualified for the next stage, coaches and some adults associated with the team conspired with their opponents to avoid playing a proper match. It has been widely reported that players instead held a picnic on the field while the two goalkeepers played one-on-one. BC Soccer ruled the conduct brought the game into disrepute, disqualified both teams from the tournament, and suspended the coaching staff.
In its statement, Saanich Fusion accepted responsibility, apologized to all involved, and emphasized that the players were following the direction of adults and should not be blamed.

Hello peoples! My partner and I are considering moving to BC from Alberta and are very interested in Victoria and the surrounding area.
I’m a paraplegic so I use a wheelchair full time, and I wanted to get local disabled people’s takes on the accessibility of the area. Shops, restaurants, housing, etc.
My biggest concerns in moving are the cost of living, and being able to find a doctor. How’s the quality of healthcare there? Hospital wait times? Are people struggling for doctors as much as Albertans or is there availability?
Thank you very much for any information!!

This is a long shot, but I need help finding work for a plumbing apprentice - not for me, but for my girlfriend.
She completed the Camosun pipe trades foundation program in March 2025, but it's been hell finding work. She did several month at a crappy job in Duncan that got her experience, but the commute obviously sucked. She managed to find a much better job in Colwood with an employer who talked big about wanting to keep staff and train them all the way through their apprenticeships, but then laid her off in a month. The union's been on a hiring freeze for more than a year too so they won't take her either.
I don't know exactly how the certification process works, but she tells me she's got enough work hours to count as a "level 2" or "second year" apprentice.
She's a crazy hard worker (it's hard to get her to leave work) who aced everything in her pipe trades class. She'll be the first to admit she's a bit of a slow learner, but she's a thorough learner who will excel at any task given the time. She's also a thoughtful and fun person to be around who can fit into any team.
She's passionate about this and I want to see her succeed. She's been dropping off resumes where she can, but most places don't even get back to her. If anyone can recommend employers in town to contact, it would be a huge help.

I understand the general logistics of lightning, thunder, storms, etc., but what causes these rare events here, specifically - or, alternatively, what causes these events to be rare?

Just adopted a new dog and I’d liked to get her microchipped. I recall I got my former dog chipped at a decreased rate as part of a fundraiser for another local rescue. Anyone aware of something similar going on? It was a great win-win.
Thanks.

I've suddenly got a jonesing for a Reuben sandwich. Any where locally to get one? And of course I have to add the required Reddit comment. No I am not going to make it myself.

Does anyone know where I can empty a dump trailer of construction supplies? I’ve only ever been to the Heartland landfill where you have to unload into bins but that’s not practical in this case.

This is more a curiousity question as at the moment we own a detached home in Langford. However I'm getting closer to retirement (59) and when we are ready we are thinking about moving into a condo downtown'ish to downsize (housing plus cars) and be in a more walkable area.
However as the average temperature is increasing with climate change one thing I'm wondering about is how common is cooling (either heat pump or AC) in condo buildings in Victoria? My casual impression is not common at all similar to homes in Victoria, is that a correct impression?
I was also wondering if newer construction buildings are including it by default these days or its still mostly ignored. A lot of those are wood construction unfortunately and I'd prefer concrete but would be good to know if they at least have the advantage of cooling built in rather then an afterthought.
Finally I believe you can install a heat pump after the fact but it requires the strata to have done an electrical survey. I also assume that it would need to penetrate the building envelope which would be another cause for concern for a strata. How common are individual heat pump installations in condo buildings and is it getting more common given the temp increases?

Hi all. I’m interested in baking a gooseberry pie. Is there anywhere I could buy some in Victoria?

Uhghh yeah is there any water body nearby that's bioluminescent? Ik some people would like to gatekeep it to protect the nature but I'm a photographer and have been dying to capture that. I would really appreciate the help. If someone has themselves seen it as a whole and not small sighting cause I've seen that too, I would be grateful. Thank you!

Reposting with Exact Wording as past 2 posts on this has been deleted.
As per the article, Loki was more than just a pet, he was also a member of the Shoreline School Community and therapeutic to many students there with adverse childhood and needs. He will surely be missed by many students when September comes.
Absolutely heartbreaking. The memories of this man’s companions last moments are haunting. May he find some peace from this horrendous event.
